Government Museum and Art Gallery

Wonderful interior design, preserved original. Adjacent buildings have poorly renovated interiors.

The Government Museum and Art Gallery was very underwhelming. Whilst holding a large volume of artefacts, there is zero engagement or substance to the displays. The layout of the gallery is divided into sectors, aiming to guide users from 1 to 8, however the entrance leads to section 7.

There is a lot of potential held within the content of the gallery, however the dysfunctional nature makes a vast impact on the experience had here. There was an absence of information accompanying the artefacts, when combined with a great lacking of natural light it revoked any interest to investigate the content of the gallery.

We were in and out within 15 minutes. There of so much underutilisation of space and potential here.

Very well maintained and cleaned. If you are history enthusiastic then you must visit there once. You have to pay 30 rupee entry fees plus you have to purchase another ticket if you want to take photos.

Nice place. Painting collection and art collection is good. This is one of hidden place in Chandigarh. One should go with kids. Must place for visit. Very reasonable and knowledgeable. Here you get how chandigarh is built. And other collection are also good

Great place, it has a lot of sculptures from various periods of India. It also has historical paintings, I came across one painting by Raja Ravi Verma.

Well maintained place. The collection of various old sculptures, statues, miniature paintings, coins etc.is vast. The staffs are very courteous, friendly and helpful. Photography is not allowed inside the gallery. If you are interested in art and sculptures, you can definitely visit this place.

Easy to access. It is very near to almost all tourist places like Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake. Plus, the Ticket includes price for this museum as well as History Museum. Recommend to visit both.

You can get a hint of real Indian culture and artwork. It's a must visit place and take your children's to show. And all the monument and sculpture give you a true and authentication feel and vibe of art.

The gallery is well maintained. Especially interesting are unique bronze pieces and Buddha in Greco-Roman style and with a mustache. Overall worth a visit.

Is a great place for people who have interest in historical remains and art.
Although I'll not suggest to pay extra for taking pictures.

Having nice collection of old sculptures and statues.
Old animal specimen are also preserved. God for visit with kids also.

As a Chandigarh resident one should definitely visit this museum as it has many historical things which are related to Chandigarh's culture and with that we have human evolution museum also there with some very rare hand paintings from 1500 and late 1600'd. You have to pay only 10 rupees per person for entry ticket and additional 5 rupees for clicking any picture.

This place is simply amazing for art lovers and history buffs. There is so much to explore! Here, you can see centuries old sculptures, manuscripts, pahari art, miniature paintings etc! The place gets even better with some modern art pieces also at display. Loved the experience.

This is situated in Leisure Valley in natural ambiance containing many ancient Idols and statues found duríng construction Fine Arts College is nearby to imarat Painting and sculpture making education. One bad feature is rainy choe flowing.

Designed by the famous Architect, sir Le corbusier, the building leaves you in an awe when you visit it. Must visit for an architecture student!

It would not go wrong to say that this museum is a small pocket with a big bang. Such an excellent museum. It not only houses centuries-old medieval sculptures, but also many of the oldest Manu scripts, holy books, oil paintings, miniatures, coins. This is a great place to visit in Chandigarh.

Today went to this place to attend a live concert of classical singing performance of Mr. Kashish Mittal. This place is beautiful. And feel so good to visit the place and attend this concert.

Awesome place, ocean of knowlegde. One of the best place in Chandigarh to visit. This museum has various sections like Modern Art, Modern and ancient Sculptures in the form of Wood, stone, bronze, brass, iron etc, Dinosaur Era, Primate Era, Coins of Hindu Rajas' Era, Mughal Era, Sikh Era, British Era, More than 500 paintings by various famous painters by different techniques.
Another Building named Chandigarh Architectural Museum in which you will see how this Woody place will become the one of the beautiful place in the world, Chandigarh (nickname "The Beautiful City"). In this building you will see how Two architects le corbusier and pierre jeanneret design, form and build this city.
Entry fees is 10 rupees per person and 5 rupees is for taking camera with you.

The place is great if you love history.
It has different sections. Ranging from sculptures to art and even to coins. If you visit there are 3 separate buildings that can be visited.

A bit boring place.you will not be able to enjoy with your family.pictures can be clicked but only of the monument and not yours with them.you have to pay for Camera usage

Making of chandigarh is one thing I like the most.
Staff was very cooperative and it was very less crowded on weekdays.
Science Museum is other attraction where human evolution was beautifully presented.
There is huge parking space as well

It's historical area where can find all different kinds of ancient stone stupa's with descriptions. It's good place to visit if one has interest in history otherwise you will feel sleepy and boring.

A Good place to visit in Chandigarh. The fossils found in the Shivalik can be found here. Human evolution gallery is good. The Dinosaur gallery is also great. The art gallery has great collection of Gandhar sculptures. "Pahar" paintings are also here.

Very good and a must visit place for architechture, Art and history entusiasts. One of the few tourist places in Chandigarh.
A bit less maintained as it is government place.
Absolutely no crowd. Empty place. Only school students visit this place.
Very less staff who only sits and eats because very less people come here.
If anyone is interested in history you must come here.

Architecture enthusiasts can see the whole making of chandigarh city and many more chandigarh history related things and maps and plans.
Art enthusiast can see many paintings and art monuments and art related stuff.
Buildings are less maintained and somewhere paint has not done on walls but overall every clean and peacefull place.
Few sections have air conditioner working.

All the collections in the museum are good. Entry ticket is quite nominal of Rs. 10 per person. But, it is very hot and humid inside. No centralised Air conditioner which makes it a quick look through place.

Government Museum and Art Gallery Chandigarh is the best museum in the North India having a collection of Gandhran sculptures, Pahari and Rajasthani miniature painting. Museum is situated in Sector 10 C Chandigarh. Must visit with your family and friends.

Here we can see different art and old stones statue of different Lord.
But all this we face a issue of light. Problem Chandigarh govt.should take step to provide generator facility here because without light. Gallery is not visible.in good way.

Good place to visit. I like it very much. As such no need for ordering. May be visited all days except mondays and a gazetted holidays. Timings 9: 45 AM to 4: 30 PM.

I would give this place a 10/5 because museum. The collection is good. It has an impressive collection of Pahari Miniature paintings. Very little entry fee of Rs. 10 (I think so) and a little more if you want to click pictures. Also a good place to visit for Buddhist artefacts from J&K, Pakistan and Afghanistan region.

Very knowledgeable place in Chandigarh. Well maintained Museum have lot of history and scientific knowledge within its walls. Many artistic works and cultural things are displayed. Historical pictures from the beginning days of Chandigarh and the architectural importance work are also on display at a nominal entry fee.

Had a lot of scriptures and paintings, was a great experience taking a look at them. Was divided in Two parts, namely- Natural History and Art Gallery.

There are two other museums in the campus.one is of natural evolutionary history Giving details about Humans, primates, fossils, Dianasorous etc

Very big meusem with very interesting and unique classical things. Here you can fid old books, coins of sikh, hindu, muslim and other religions before the independence of india. In art gallery very beautiful and interesting paintings are available. The entry fee is very cheap. On rose fest here is a vintage car's exhibition.

Feel the work of Le Corbusier, a French architect. Government museum, auditorium and Chandigarh architectural museum is worth visiting. One can see the hand made Sketches, architectural drawings, press releases, furniture design and government letters from eminent architects like Le Corbusier and Albert mayar (who was supposed to design the Chandigarh city but later on it was designed by Le Corbusier.)

The government museum and art gallery of Chandigarh have the finest collection of art and historical artifact in the city. The multi-themed museum attracts a lot of tourists from across the globe.

But, a fair warning, if you are planning on checking out some of the most coveted historical pieces and paintings at this place, you might be a little disappointed. However, at a really nominal cost, this place is good enough to spend some good time.
