I've contacted Active India through Kimkim and I must say that I've really enjoyed my experience!

As a start, and to make the communication easy during the trip, I was added to a WhatsApp group with Ravi and the Active India emergency number and I gave consistent feedback and requested to book for optional trips. The response to my queries were really quick.

Active India are really attentive and I felt like they were looking after me during the trip. They've got the details from my emergency contact and of my insurance policy at the very start of the trip.
Also they hotels they booked for me were of really high standard and located close to the main places I wanted to visit.

I've had the chance to meet 5 tour guides during the trip and all of them were experienced and knew very well about the trip location as they were mostly locals and knew where the hidden gems were. My only advice is that if you are not willing to shop anything and you are more into visiting the cities or landmarks, then that you make clear from the very beginning that you don't want to go to any shop and that you would rather invest your time in visiting the city or other places of interest. You could end up stuck in one of these shops for an hour!

Finally, my special mention goes to my driver Umesh. He has been with me during all the trip and took me to all the places I visited (Delhi, Jaipur, Ranthambore and Agra). He has been really punctual and professional and also took good care of me.

If you're planning to book your holidays in India and want to book a guide and someone to book the hotels and transport on your behalf, don't hesitate to contact Active India!

We discovered Active India through a third party website from the USA. They were very helpful in the pre-planning stage and were always very responsive, as our desired trip covered a whole lot of India and spanned a month, and we had lots of questions. Overall we would recommend them and would give them a 4.5ish, but do read below for some detail tips, as its a good idea to review the logistics and hotels in detail and in advance during planning, to ensure they match your needs and comforts.

The trip was pretty well planned and a lot of the logistics were well coordinated. We spent a fair amount of time (10 days+) in Rajhastan and our driver was excellent and the best when compared to the others during our entire trip - but his car needed a little upgrading (he had no radio/music player, and suitcase racks on the roof did not have straps so he had to use a rope which would sometimes get lose and make noise on the highway!). All the other drivers in other cities/states also had a toyota innova, but they were generally brand new vehicles with working straps on their roof rack for the luggage, so they were very comfortable to ride in. Our original driver in Kerala was also one of our favourite as well (and the one in Varanasi), and he was very knowledgeable like be a guide and driver all in one.

Before the trip, we did research a lot of the proposed hotels and requested many changes/upgrades to some of them. During our actual trip, we researched one of them again which we missed and noticed a number of bad reviews and requested it be changed during the trip - which we were happy Active India was able to accommodate the change for us! There were only one or two economical hotels which we went with Active India's suggestion, and afterwards wish we would have changed. There was also only one logistical change we would have made in South India Kerala which would have included an extra hour or two of driving in one day, but then would have allowed us to spend 2 nights at one nicer hotel, vs a night each at two different hotels. At each hotel during the trip and at check-in, we realized early on that it was beneficial to try and request and review some of the rooms first and ask for possible upgrades or changes. We were not sure if some hotels were just busy and were giving the Active India clients the cheaper rooms that they had available, or perhaps its because we were also brown (ancestors were originally from India) and so we may have looked local as well, so foreigners generally got preferential treatment of rooms?

At each new city, fort, palace etc in our itinerary, we were accompanied by excellent knowledgeable, friendly guides! We also had excellent friendly drivers in every location as well.

We were a group of 4 and each had a large suitcase and carry on. We generally had a toyota innova as our driver car in each city. The first day that we landed in each city, Active India had their representative meet us with an arranged driver to pick us up from the airport. This was a big problem since with all our suitcases, the Active India rep had to squeeze in the van with us, making the drive from the airport to the hotel a but uncomfortable. Their rep was usually great, but it was just a tight fit.

Also, they arranged our local flights in India via Indigo - which had a 15kg suitcase restriction. For a 30 day trip our suitcases were already at the international weight of 22kg. This Indigo suitcase restriction was quite a problem for us. This may not be an Active India issue, but it would be nice if they can somehow have an agreement with Indigo to allow their international clients to have up to 22kg for their checked in luggage. We really wanted to buy a lot more souvenirs but the weight restriction made us think twice.

Overall, for a month long trip spanning so many different cities (at least 13ish), we had an excellent time and covered so much of India. Active India did a pretty good job organizing the trip for us, they were always very responsive, and cared very much to ensure we had a great time!
