Heritage Place and a important city of Delhi among the seven cities.

Fort is not very good condition, but huge complex for walking with greenery.

Ashokan Topra Piller is established at here. Walking distance from Delhi Gate metro station gate 1 and 2.

Firoz Shah Kotla Fort is a historical fort in Delhi, India, built by Firoz Shah Tughlaq in the 14th century. It's known for its architectural features, including Ashokan Pillar, Baoli (stepwell), and the Jami Masjid. The fort has significant historical and cultural importance

I recently visited the Feroz Shah Kotla Fort in Delhi, and it was a captivating experience that took me back in time. As a history enthusiast, I have always been fascinated by ancient monuments, and this fort did not disappoint.

The first thing that struck me was the fort's location in the bustling city of Delhi. It's incredible to think that amidst the chaos and modern development, such a historical treasure can still be found. The fort is situated near the famous Feroz Shah Kotla Cricket Stadium, which adds a unique charm to its surroundings.

Upon entering the fort, I was immediately awestruck by its grandeur. The massive sandstone walls and intricate architectural details spoke volumes about the rich history and craftsmanship of the bygone era. The fort's size and layout are quite impressive, and it's easy to imagine how it must have been a formidable structure during its prime.

One of the highlights of my visit was exploring the underground passages and chambers. These hidden tunnels add an element of mystery and intrigue to the fort, and walking through them felt like a journey into the past. The guides at the fort were knowledgeable and provided interesting insights into its history, making the experience even more enriching.

Another feature that I loved was the Ashokan pillar, which stands tall within the fort complex. This ancient pillar, believed to be over 2,000 years old, is a testament to the city's rich heritage and connects it to its ancient roots.

However, I must mention that the fort's maintenance could be improved. While the authorities have taken steps to preserve its structure, there were some areas that showed signs of neglect. It would be wonderful to see more efforts invested in the fort's restoration and conservation to ensure its longevity for future generations to enjoy.

Overall, the Feroz Shah Kotla Fort is a must-visit for anyone interested in Delhi's history and architectural marvels. It offers a glimpse into the city's past and stands as a reminder of its glorious heritage. With its rich historical significance and the intriguing stories it holds within its walls, this fort is a true gem in the heart of Delhi.

A pristine polished sandstone Topra Ashokan pillar from the 3rd century BC rises from the palace's crumbling remains, one of many pillars of Ashoka left by the Mauryan emperor; it was moved from Topra Kalan in Pong Ghati of Yamunanagar district in Haryana to Delhi under orders of Firoz Shah Tughlaq of Delhi Sultanate, and re-erected in its present location in 1356. The original inscription on the obelisk is primarily in Brahmi script but language was Prakrit, with some Pali and Sanskrit added later. The inscription was successfully translated in 1837 by James Prinsep. This and other ancient lats (pillars, obelisk) have earned Firoz Shah Tughlaq and Delhi Sultanate fame for its architectural patronage.

Other than the Ashokan Pillar, the Fort complex also houses the Jami Masjid (Mosque), a Baoli and a large garden complex.

Right beside the Jami Masjid lies the ruins of Feroz Shah Kotla. The place is well known among the locals as being the resting grounds of Jinns. Jinns are said to be malevolent spirits, cast out of heaven and cursed to eternally roam the earth.

Jinns are said to prey on unguarded young women and children at night. These spirits are said to have no shape and are invisible to the naked eye. To appease them, the grounds are left with offerings such as milk, grains and fruits.

The oldest of the oldest of the oldest forts in india, and definitely of Delhi, capital of India, though left into its ruins structure now, but a majestic view of the city can be seen, Kotla, famous for many reasons, often coined as the house of the Djins, do dare yourself to set up a meeting there with them. A quite and serene place to visit in the winter months.

A majestic and hidden gem, adjacent to Ferozeshah Kotla cricket stadium.

This place is mostly not crowded and stands in silence to blow you away with its magnificent architecture. The ruins stand like an old man ready to tell the tale of a nostalgic past, from a classic book covered with dust. It makes for a beautiful sight, and on a clear day it can be a photographer's delight.

Ps: My pictures are from 2019.

Only one time visit for tourists.
Not recommended to visit again
Parking spot is not defined one has to park in public park side.
Not many outsider visit this place it's for the local people more as there is masjid inside and people come everytime here to pray.
The site is poorly maintain buy the asi
The visiting fort is closed from all sides as people are seen praying and some local myths and miracle.
There are not much to explore at the site not many photo click spots and still this place is recommended as heritiage site for travellers.
I would say visit some better location in delhi than come and waste time.
Security is also less here not many guards around and dogs are dangerous open walking inside the monument area.
This area needs to be well guarded and properly maintained not just for sake maintenance to be done.

Had a great experience, if you're into historical places and enjoy learning about history, you must visit and see the topra pillar by Ashoka.

The Feroz Shah Kotla was a fortress built on the bank of Yamuna during 14th Cemtury by Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq (1351-88)  as a Citadel of Delhi city called Firozabad. Today, this site contains ruins of Palaces, Pillared Halls, Jami Masjid, Topran Ashoka's Pillar, Baoli and many buried tunnels. Among them, Topra Ashokan Pillar is the most famous, installed within the premises of Fort after bringing it from Topara (a Mauryan village Of Haryana) on the order of Sultan Firoz Shah Tughalaq. Now, It is an attractive tourist place in Delhi with carrying the nostalgia of Mediaval India.

Not much to see or do. Rs 20 tickets, parking on road available. Not a big fort nor many things to check out. The main attractions are the Asokan pillar (which is higher placed and isn't accessible), Circular Baoli (closed can only be peek from outside) Palace ruins (nothing much remain) and Mosque. Can be clubbed with Rajghat visit or if in locality, not much worth for sole visit.

Beautiful place and unknown to many people.
25-30 minutes is all you needed to view every area and there are 2 gardens outside this place.
The fee is ₹20 and can be booked online through ASI site. You can click many beautiful pictures here and a wonderful location to spend time with your loved ones.

Love the aesthetics of this place.
But, what bummed me out is that this place remains closed on Thursdays and Fridays, even for the devotees.
But, there is a dargaah right behind the fort, for which you go to the right side of the fort (don't enter the premises), then enter the street through a medieval gate and keep going till the end. That place also has similar vibes.

Very peaceful place It is a very relaxed place, but lovers will often find obscenity, due to which they do not want to come here with family. Some people have spread rumors that there are ghosts here, but I did not feel anything like this.

Very charming ruins that are surprisingly unknown to most Delhiites. Worth visiting, and only takes about an hour to explore the entire site.

A monumental reminder of the 14th Century AD. The complex of Feroz Shah Kotla lies next to the famous cricket stadium of Delhi. The fate of this place turned over after the death of Feroz Shah and the invasion of Timur in 1398.

The complex now stands with its rock and mortar clad walls and the remnants of the lost architecture. There's a Baoli (Stepwell), Ashokan Lat and a Mosque that survived which watch over the Delhi through the river turned to road, which it face now.

The legend of Djinns and their wish granting rituals are now the main reason this complex is popular among the masses of Delhi.

Easily reachable via Delhi Gate metro station or Auto/Cabs.

The persons of Feroz Shah Kotla are very ill mannered, and have no courage to handle a small situation like a women is abusing a poor boy for touching her car by his bike. And no one try to calm her. She is abusing very badly but no said to calm her although all are scolding the boy. Another person was there without any reason he ask me, where's to go? Although I haven't ask him, when I ask him again. What did you said? He don't explained, he started to abusing me.

This fort built by the Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlaq in the 14th century houses the pristine Topra Ashokan Pillar of the 3rd century, which is a remnant from the Mauryan dynasty
The fort has some magnificent gardens, mosques, palaces etc, in its complex. The entrance of the fort has a gigantic iron gate with the name of the ruler and the boundary of the fort walls are as high as 15 m. Though a number of structures in the fort are in ruins, the stepwell (baoli) is still in good condition.

The Feroz Shah Kotla or Kotla was a fortress built by Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq to house his version of Delhi city called Ferozabad.
Feroz Shah Tughlaq (r. 1351–1388), the invader of India, established the fortified city of Firuzabad in 1354, as the new capital of the Delhi Sultanate, and included in it the site of the present Feroz Shah Kotla. Kotla literally means fortress or citadel.
The pillar, also called obelisk or Lat is an Ashoka Column, attributed to Mauryan ruler Ashoka.
The 13.1 meters high column, made of polished sandstone and dating from the 3rd century BC, was brought from Ambala in the 14th century under orders of Feroz Shah.

A ruined fort but very interesting place. You can see half of Delhi from fort. There is also a small underground part of the fort which is little bit scary. Good for photography purpose.

The fort looks great, and make sure you read about the history of it. On some days there is no entry fee. On those days, the place will be so damn crowded and you won't be able to enjoy it
