Good AC rooms. Although geyser was not working. Double beds are not big. Suitable for two people. Food is not available inside. You need to go out and eat. The Triveni terrace cafe is opposite of it and it's good. The price of the food is a bit high.
The Gomti Guest House of Jawaharlal Nehru University is located in the Mandi House area of New Delhi. The rooms and service are very good, a stay here can be booked by an internal person of the university. The charge for double ac room is around Rs 700-800 per day.
Gomti does not offer most luxurious stay. What it does offer is an affordable stay at the most prime location of Delhi, very helpful staff and a calm and quite atmosphere. Hopefully JNU will continue to provide this service to the students and ex-students. It has been part of the most important research field trip of my wife. We would miss our stay here.
We stayed there for 3 days. The place is neat and clean. The manager is very cooperative and a nice gentleman. I liked the guest house. The staffs are also helpful and polite.
Comfortable accommodation for people from Educational Institution for affordable charges. Even though mess facility is not there in the Guest House, we can get good food at the nearby Bengali Market.
The guesthouse is situated behind the FICCI Federation house. It has a great locational advantage as it is situated in the heart of New Delhi. The rooms are good, amenities are also fine.
Pathetic, it's not always abt saving money. Visited here in Jan and staff response was " sir we have just one balnket, can't provide you more than that". Left the guest house on next day.
Only bed, tv and water supply is provided which is ok if you just want to sleep. If you are fine with no towels, no doormats, broken window latches, old looking walls, no cafeteria, screaming almirah doors etc - you should be good.
The Guest House, located in the heart of Delhi is not for general public. The JNU scholars, visitors etc are provided the rooms according to their duration of stay.
Pros •The staff is very friendly and helpful. •The Rooms/washrooms are clean and tidy, which is what makes a stay comfortable. •The rooms are spacious and well ventilated with decent furnishing. •For any kind of concern regarding the stay, the staff is quick to react/respond. •Very nominal rates as compared to the location and facilities being provided. •A healthy environment, makes you feel like home.
Cons •They used to have a canteen but due to some reasons they had to close it down. •The tea/food has to be ordered through the helpers in guest house as the outlets/stalls like Bengali Sweets etc are at a few minutes walking distance. It's better to ask for suggestions from them and go and have your own meal enjoying a pleasant walk outside. •Since it has limited rooms, the guest house is sometimes under full occupancy or pre-booked.
It is run by JNU administration, and hence bookings have to be made with approval by a JNU faculty. It's situated in a quite place behind FICCI building with Bengali market nearby. Kerala bhavan and Andhra bhavan are nearby where you can go for inexpensive, good foods. Rooms are good with spaciius cupboard and drawers. A mini referigerator is also provided. Geysor is also available. You can opt for Non/AC rooms at inexpensive fare at 600 and 800 respectively. CHECKOUT TIME IS 24 HOURS FROM CHECK-IN TIME unlike many hotels.
It's a very safe and clean place to have a pleasant stay in Delhi. And one of the reason I recommend it to people who visit Delhi is that it is situated near Mandi House Metro station and alot of places where you wanna visit when you travel to Delhi are nearby. It has a nice market called Bengali Market where you can find delicious food, making your stay a more pleasant experience. Along with all this, for a nice quality AC room and a top class service all you have to pay is Rs 800 per day, the rates are low because the guest house belongs to JNU but don't confuse the place to a low standard guest house or hotel just because of the rates!
