Shastri ji's official PM residence was dedicated as a National Memorial in 2005 and houses all his personal belongings including his house and office artifacts, personal car, gifts from dignitaries, literature, galleries etc. One is inspired by his life and ideals of simple living, high thinking and higher devotion to honesty and hardwork for the society.

The Memorial is free for public entry, open from 10 AM - 5 PM (Tuesday is holiday) and provides sufficient car parking and has wheelchair accessibility. The staff is courteous and helpful.

The Annexe houses the Lal Bahadur Shastri Research Centre for Public Policy and Social Change (LBSRC) which is the Research Arm of Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM), Delhi.

Bharat Ratna late Sh. Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second Prime Minister of India, was a humanitarian par excellence, an icon of simplicity and integrity, an epitome of selflessness and honesty and a superb statesman. He was a man of substance and one of the greatest leaders India has ever produced. A pragmatic and down to earth leader of the people of India, a fine statesman and an able administrator, with his moral and ethical attributes of a ‘Mahatma’ and a person of impeccable integrity, Shastriji was a great soul dedicated to the welfare of the common man.

He was deeply patriotic and courageous, having dedicated his life to the service of the nation. His commitment to the people of India was exemplary. He lived a life which was in perfect purity of thoughts, words and deeds and his enduring call of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ continues to hold utmost relevance even today in transforming India into a self-reliant global super power. A grassroots level worker throughout life, his real strength lay in his cool courage, strong determination, dedication and understanding of the human mind

The Memorial is dedicated to the second Prime Minister, Bharat Ratna Sh. Lal Bahadur Shastri who died,  while still in office, in Tashkent in the year 1966. The building is covered on the outside by a big lawn which also consists of an orchard, a badminton court, and a mandap that has Shastriji’s imprints. The lawn was the place where Shastriji met people and discussed various matters. Another section under the shadow of the trees is a more private lawn where he met his officials and did his paper work. The orchard is a symbol of Lal Bahadur Shastri’s popular message for the Nation- ‘jai jawan jai kisaan’. At the back portico, his famous Fiat car (1964 model), purchased by him against a loan from the Punjab National Bank, is displayed.
