Atmosphere is rustic. A good place to be in CP for a quite lunch. They do not accept card. I have rate low service because they take time to serve the order.
A great place to hangout with friends or family in CP. Vietnamese cold coffee is a must try. Super friendly host and great authentic South Indian food.
I ordered Southie special cold coffee and sambhar-idli vada combo. Both were awesome! I enjoyed the food. Overall nice experience, the only issue was hot environ!
Had masala dosa, Idli and filter coffee. Idli and masala dosa were average but very costly. Coffee was super bad, there was hardly any milk in there. 20 INR coffee anywhere in Bangalore is better than this 100 INR coffee.
Filter coffee, eponymous with the place, is below average. Not worth the price or reputation. The south Indian delicacies are nice though. Go for the food, not for the coffee.
It's a lovely place. Filter coffee and Mysore rava masala dosa is love! However they got their interior redesigned and it's not good. The old vibes are all gone. Miss the old look dearly.
Though we have visited before also but visited today after long in this CP outlet and we were very dissatisfied with the experience of food.uttapam was uncooked.chatni was not good at all & coffee without any milk. Very bad experience
Visited this place after a long time and regretted doing o. We ordered south thalis for lunch. Surprised to see being served in plastic multi dish plates. Puris and vegetable dish were okay. But only three spoonfuls each of cold rasam and sambar were served. There were no second servings. Highly overpriced and sub standard restaurant.
No much uniqueness is seen apart from its geographical and cultural taste in a location like Indira chowk while competing with other cosines. I didn’t see a great taste in beverages section at-least.
Had idli sambhar which didn't seem fresh. The filter coffee was just fine and not worth the price. They also serve tea (the one with tea bag?) but the good thing is they'll warn you about it while ordering: p
The waiters are very illogical to talk to as they forget the order n don't write it down. The owner is a mess to talk to. Very bad management. Even got a hair.
Despite of negative rating i was fascinated to try this place because of name and its serving since 1935. So i visited and ordered one Masala Dosa and 2 Filter Coffee (South Indian) and i can this one is the best coffee i have tried and masala dosa was also good. Ambient was very kind of old age but it will give you positive felling. Well i really want recommend this place to visit
When you enter in this cafe first thing you will go not to feel a very bad smell. Old broken and dirty furniture. Cockroach all over table. Old dirty menu passing through one table to another. 90% of menu item are not available. They serve what they have. They don't understand mean of hygiene. Staff very rude and dirty cleaning spoon by their own hand. If you will order a coffee there you are really going to regret that. Don't take a chance to even try this place. They accept only cash.
Sorry to say this, but the place doesn't live upto it's name and the place where it's located. The food is just an average. The staff is although looks experienced going by there age, but they lack that hospitality behaviour. Also the time of my visit it was seen the manager was having an argument cum scolding to one of it's staff just beside my table, such an unprofessional behavior. And it was repeatedly done again with another staff at the other table as well. All on all such a waste they have made of such a beautiful place. Although the menu is quite vast but I doubt if anything on it would actually be palatable. Please avoid this place as of now, might become a bit welcoming next time (fingers crossed).
This is the best possible place in Delhi for authentic South Indian Food. The dosas are to die for.and the ambience and feel is homely. If you don't go here you are surely missing out on something that is a piece of heritage.plus obviously the great food.
Being a South Indian, i can try by best in explaining. 1. Don't go by the name of this. It serves south food but, avrg taste only. Not like 2-3 yrs back. 2. It needs a serious renovation becz it's too hot inside as there is no Ac here. So, if it is sunny day don't go for this. 3. As i said above, at least change the menu. The menu is so dirty, torned out and printed decades ago. They are still using the same menu. I don't think they need to sell lands to make a good menu. 4. No digital payments accepted here. Bring your own cash. They r still in 1935 only. 5. Over priced with moderate taste.
Pathetic tasteless dosa.thy charged 140/- for masala dosa by was pathetic tasteless. Street vendors serve far better dosa than them.really waste of money going there. Moreover, service also v v v poor
This place carries a heavy name with it, standing the test of time which they proudly display 'Since 1936'. Anything which has endured time has tremendous appeal and attraction which is hard bypass. Located at the heart of Delhi, it couldn't have been any better. Coming to the fooding experience, I am pained to say that the quality has severely deteriorated and so has the service. Maybe it is because of the lockdown/pandemic, though I don't think this is a valid enough excuse for a place with such heritage. I hope they will take the feedback constructively and improve their overall dining experience for their loyal customers, which are many.
Once a flourishing place has gone into oblivion. Coffee doesn't smell like it did in late 90s'. Quality down, rate up. Other south indian foods are okay.
Ordered- Idli sambhar - very good consistency Paper butter madala dosa- extremely extremely good. Do try. Filter coffee- hard pass it was worth 100 rupees. I think all the reviews praising the coffee haven't had the authentic one in South india. Maybe the tike if day, but it was clearly not authentic or even average. Seating- I liked it. Comfortable. Ambience- nice for a Monday morning quiet breakfast.
The hotel is too pricey for the given food range. Price of menu is not updated online. So people who visit this place seeing prices online should prepare for the high prices. Service is very slow. Main thing to notice is cards are not accepted here cash only.
I had filter coffee over here but it's not even a coffee. Very worst taste I never had previously this kind of filter coffee anywhere in world. Please dont spoil the name of South indian filter coffee (Madras).
Worst Coffee I ever had. I visited on 24th Mar 2019. At first instance i couldn't identify whether it is coffee or tea. Such a bad experience. Price is also expensive. Better go for Sarvana Bhavan located just next to that.
Jain sambar is also available. It is located very close to rajiv chowk metro station gate no. 7. Just 300m Walking distance. It is located in P block of Connaught place
A good place for South Indian food, which is cheap. It is one of the oldest hotels in cannaught place, which dates back to 1930s. Food is authentic South Indian. Probably, it is among the most affordable hotels. The only problem is that it is not too hyegenic. If they improve the cleanliness, it can be given five star rating.
It is located in Delhi in Connaught Place. It is in the block next to Regal Cinema if you walk the circle clock-wise. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled open coz its such a dark and dungy place that you might easily miss it even thought it is quite big and has a dark brown exterior and a wooden double door. Anyways from the inside it is in quite a dilapidated condition but I guess that just adds to the atmosphere. It is quite a change from all the flashy-neon lit eateries that otherwise occupy connaught place. Upon sitting on a sofa that I half suspected to collapse under my weight (which it mercifully didn’t), I gingerly picked up the menu. Gingerly because it seemed like such an old and yellowed parchment that I half expected it to crumble between my fingers.
Butter masala dosa is very good, uttapamis also good but their idli is best in delhi.it just melts in ur mouth.although the dècor is very old looking, wall paint is peeling but they make up in food taste. If the nearby sarvan bhawan is crowded, this is a good option just for that taste.also note that they only take cash payment
I discovered a few days ago that it had reopened. But the quality needs to be like the old days. Needs to have everything available in the menu and have the authentic taste and servings. For eg.filter coffee was not served in the steel cups but instead on China cups which takes away the feel.
Nothing on the menu was available except for coffee, masala dosa and idli. The coffee was lower than average, dosa was also just about average and the waiter gave a feeling like he was in no mood to serve. Never Going Back.
A bit hyped I must say.we are mostly attracted by it's old door and plain basic interiors. Wall & ceiling plaster getting off might be a turn down but the main is food/coffee we visit this place. Filter coffee was just ok and priced at 70, we felt it was very highly priced. Opens at 11. You can definitely choose many other South Indian Restaurant over this. Rather Sarvana Bhavan very close to this is much more hygienic, nice interiors, with AC, rightly priced and much tastier food & coffee.
Ancient coffee house.they also serve Dosa and other snacks.loved it.it was found in early 1900 and since then it is as it was.you get to listen old melodies with a cup of coffee and dosa
