The National Rail Museum in Delhi is a fascinating journey through India's railway history. It showcases an impressive collection of vintage locomotives and carriages, providing insight into the country's rail evolution. The well-maintained outdoor and indoor exhibits make for an engaging visit for all ages. The toy train ride is a highlight, especially for kids. However, it could benefit from more interactive displays and updated information. Overall, a must-visit for railway enthusiasts and a decent educational outing.

National Rail Museum

Though initially thought of in 1962, the idea for opening of Transport Museum took a concrete shape in 1970 under the advise of Mr. Michael Graham Satow a rail enthusiast. Shri V. The first of its kind in the country, The National Rail Museum covers a land area of over 11 acres and the indoor gallery comprises an elegantly designed octagonal building, housing six display galleries, and a large open display area laid out to simulate the atmosphere of a railway yard.

Giri, President of India, Shri K. Hanumanthaiya, Minister for Railways. The task of thanks giving fell on Shri M. Srinivasan, Director- General, RDSO, Lucknow. A really fun place to visit. Toy like train ride is really awesome. The trains on display with information about history is great thing to see. Though riding on them isn't allowed, people do ride it to click photos. The museum has a history on display with lot of pictures and dummies. Visiting with kids can be fun and informative.

Its a nice place to visit. Best for children. But in weekend it has a lot of rush. Even you dont get chance to get a seat in restaurant, as it has very small space and limited seat in it. Otherwise rest all things are good.

It's an okay okay place, good to explore in a winter Afternoon, specially, if you have school going inquisitive kids, or a person interested in engineering stuff. The rides are good except the minirail (It's too risky, and not enjoyable at all)

This place is suitable for family outing as well, for kids they have open rides and credels.kids loved it, and adults busy in clicking pictures with old train structures. A must visit place but fares for the museum are little bit extra to the medium class families.

The National Rail Museum has a beautiful collection of real vintage trains and train models of all times, Model Stations. There are tracks for toy trains - one track is for small children to "travel" a jolly ride inside the cabins. At the time of my visit the primary school kids were so happy even to see the train. And on boarding into the train fir the journey their Happiness had no bounds. Fir the adults escorting the children enjoyed more on seeing the children behaviour than viewing the train itself.

There is another track for still mini toy train which can carry only a small family sitting right on the Engine and trailing toy compartments.
The track appeared to be just one foot wide. The rails are less than one inch thick!
There are so much models of trains from historical times kept in several rooms in the museum arranged in chronological order.

This is run by the Railway department.

The need of the hungry children in picnic are not cared by providing food & snacks at reasonable price in the cafeteria within.
The food items inside the Cafeteria is at the level of 5 Star Hotels restaurant. They sell a water bottle at Rs. 80/- (ten times a vada pav price at Mumbai.)

The Railway Rate itself at Real Railway Station is now Rs. 15/-
How do the department allow them to sell at this rate!
One can understand why money value is becoming much low.

But for this food problem one can enjoy half a day in the museum.
They charge Rs 50 for adults children at subsidised rate.

A lovely place to be with kids. A well managed place and neat and clean. You need to buy entry tickets, joy train and toy train tickets. Ticket prices vary for kids and adults. No tickets for kids below 3 years. The parking spot was a challenge as some events was going on the day we went. Outside food is allowed. It's open till 5pm and last train ride is at 4.45 pm.

Went after ages and still has charm left with its unique collection of some priceless pieces of engines and bogies. There are good options for kids. The cafeteria is fair enough to have. Can do a little more to improve the overall ambience.

It's a fun place, which includes many toy trains, museum, miniature models of trains only vintage engine's and most of everything to showcase Indian railways. Avoid this place of weekdays because of crowd and increased to ticket price although its very cheap compared to other amusment park's. You can find all the ticket prices on their official Website.

Must see and do thing in Delhi, fun for the kids. But avoid weekends and holidays, it's very crowded and people behave like they do in the real railway's, pushing and shoving you out of the way to get into rides.
Do not take the tickets of the toy train unless you have a bunch of kids and it's a steam engine, it's very lame.

Awesome place. Very neat and clean. Wonderful train rides in the tiny train and the toy train. There's also a mono rail which runs on Thursdays. There's a kiosk which makes good tea. And the cafeteria has good dosas.

It will showcase you the beginning history and all the developments regarding railways that is taking place till the date. Very informative and best place where we could enjoy with our family and even kids. Several rides were there for amusing us on different engines although all were not available and were bit expensive. Plus quizzes and MCQ's for all age groups will take your quest and knowledge on next level.
