Nation Zoological Park in Delhi is a fantastic destination for animal lovers and nature enthusiasts. Located in the heart of the city, it offers a unique opportunity to observe a wide range of wildlife in a well-maintained environment. From lions and tigers to pandas and monkeys, visitors can witness a variety of species up close. The park's lush greenery and beautiful landscapes create a serene atmosphere. Facilities and amenities are commendable, but crowd management can be improved. Overall, it's a must-visit for animal lovers.
05 सितंबर 2023 0:04
Don't purchase tickets around 4 P: M:
Because you'll not get to see what you came for like, Tiger, Lion, Bear. They shut them down in cage.
Before going I'll suggest please read & understand map coz you'll miss some animal due to confusing MAP!
03 सितंबर 2023 11:05
Whenever you visit this place in summer, It becomes a burden to travel whole zoo as the travel vans just drop you on selected places and they are totally waste of money according to me and the timing of the zoo in the evening is till 4: 30 which should be increased at least till 6: 00 so, that people could enjoy properly.
02 सितंबर 2023 18:30
If you really love animals please visit reserve and don’t take you children here. It’s a jail for animals take them to reseves where they can see animals where they belong not in zoo.they are trapped helpless beings in there. Please please this will make your child lack of empathy. There are million of places to go with you family and hangout start boycotting these things.

Not worth of the ticket price which they offer. If planning to go take ticket online as they don't have ticket counter there. Also don't forget to take e cart for traveling. Lot of peacocks and dears are there. All other animals are very few.
30 अगस्त 2023 9:18
This place dosent offer ticket counter at site! Try booking 1day prior visiting or else you should pay extra, but suprisngly the booking site won't work if we do it, but it will if (a group working just for this) their site it does, and they ask for extra money, except this the zoo is sad too, it hard to watch does animals suffering and PPL teasing them, would never go there again!

The National Zoological Park, Delhi: A Haven of Biodiversity and Conservation

Introduction

The National Zoological Park, located in the heart of New Delhi, India, is a sprawling sanctuary for wildlife and a center for conservation and education. Established in 1959, it has since become one of the country's most prominent zoological institutions, showcasing a diverse array of flora and fauna while actively contributing to the preservation of endangered species and the education of the public.

Historical Background

The history of the National Zoological Park dates back to the early 20th century when the idea of creating a zoo in Delhi was first proposed. However, it wasn't until 1951 that the foundation stone was laid for the zoo, and its doors were officially opened to the public in 1959. Over the decades, the park has undergone extensive expansion and renovation to provide a more natural and comfortable environment for its animal residents.

Biodiversity at Its Best

One of the primary attractions of the National Zoological Park is its rich biodiversity. The park is home to a wide variety of species, both indigenous and exotic, totaling over 1,300 animals representing approximately 130 different species. Visitors can encounter majestic big cats like lions and tigers, graceful herbivores such as deer and antelopes, and a captivating assortment of birds, reptiles, and aquatic creatures. This incredible diversity offers a glimpse into the splendor of the animal kingdom, fostering a deeper appreciation for wildlife and conservation.

Conservation Initiatives

Beyond serving as a place of recreation and education, the National Zoological Park plays a vital role in conservation efforts. It participates in captive breeding programs for endangered species, including the Bengal tiger and the Indian rhinoceros, with the goal of reintroducing these animals into their natural habitats. The park is also actively engaged in research, helping to further our understanding of wildlife biology and behavior.

Education and Awareness

Education is a fundamental aspect of the National Zoological Park's mission. It serves as an educational hub, welcoming school groups and visitors of all ages to learn about wildlife conservation, the importance of biodiversity, and the need for responsible stewardship of our planet. The park conducts workshops, lectures, and interactive programs to raise awareness about wildlife conservation, aiming to inspire the next generation of conservationists.

Challenges and Preservation Efforts

Despite its successes, the National Zoological Park faces several challenges, including space constraints and the need for modernization. The park's management continually strives to improve the living conditions of its animal residents by providing more spacious enclosures and naturalistic habitats.

In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on the zoo's role in wildlife preservation through in-situ conservation programs, habitat restoration, and public engagement campaigns.

Conclusion

The National Zoological Park in Delhi stands as a testament to the importance of preserving biodiversity and fostering a sense of responsibility toward the planet's precious wildlife. It offers a unique opportunity for people to connect with nature, learn about conservation, and witness the beauty of Earth's creatures up close. As it continues to evolve and adapt to modern conservation practices, this institution remains a symbol of India's commitment to safeguarding its natural heritage for generations to come.

08 मई 2021 22:19
Place to go in the pleasant weather with your friends or family members. I had seen an Asiatic Lion, White Tiger, Bengal Tiger Cheetah, Hyena, Elephant, Rhino etc. The ticket is 40 for one person and you cannot carry any outside food in the zoo.
07 मई 2021 21:44
Authorities of this place should be responsible enough to display online that it's temporarily closed due to covid
06 मई 2021 22:28
Went to zoo today as it reopened. Disappointed big time as their Paytm link and phone pay isn't working. Nobody will listen to you. I went to zoo at 09am and came back home disappointed at around 12: 30 pm without entry to the zoo. Payment system is now online and nobody will listen to you if their link doesn't work. Around 12 they said " we will be having lunch so we don't care". They told me to come after 1PM. Imagine this being told to someone who's waiting for his entry from 09am. Many people including senior citizens were sitting hopelessly at the entry gate in scorching heat waiting for their entry. I won't ever come to this stupid zoo
05 मई 2021 6:31
Don't waste your time to visit in Corona time, it is closed since March2020 but Zoo Authority have not updated this info at site so people are returning back from entrance gate
I am still thinking how can some one misguide people by posting old pictures of 1-2 month (not even possible).
16 अप्रैल 2021 1:28

04 अप्रैल 2021 12:10

20 मार्च 2021 6:36
Best place to visit in Delhi. It has Nice atmosphere. Overall it's clean and all the amenities are available including Loo, tea stalls, Battery operated trolley, Cloakroom,
Resting facilities, Guide map, ATM facility,
Wheel chair for physically challenged persons,
Etc.
Foods are not allowed inside but there are canteens outside. It's best day out for children and family members.
16 मार्च 2021 16:24
Due to current circumstances, It is temporarily closed as of now so need to wait Government’s decision to open this zoo.
The tjings have been improved here n it is really commendable to see such an organized zoo. Many cages were under renovation but still we cud see many animals n birds
02 मार्च 2019 2:59
I visited National Zoo after a long gap. There is lot of change now. Previously there were no toilets but now I found there were many toilets there and moreover very clean.
17 फरवरी 2019 5:59
The Delhi Zoo disappointed us. Apart from the Gibbon, Hippo, Leopard & Jaguars not much to be spoken about. The reptile house was closed. Not many birds apart from the Hornbill. Only 1 tiger, 1 Lion & 1 white tiger were seen, mostly sleeping so out of view. No Giraffe: (?

I would personally rate Hyderabad & Mysore zoo's higher. Even though small in area I feel Dubai Zoo had more animals than Delhi Zoo & probably their model of operation is better!

Tips:

1) The queue for tickets can be long if you don't make it early.
2) No food allowed / can be purchased once inside.
3) There are golf carts available for those who can't walk.
10 फरवरी 2019 1:56
Ok place to spend sometime. I think the foggy delhi air makes every location look bad. Even the trees turn brown waiting for the rains which may take months to appear. The animals say the same with their dreary eyes asking the visitors to let them stay in peace as each breath is more difficult to take in and requires more energy to extract a little bit of oxygen from the polluted air.
05 फरवरी 2019 18:14
Best place for children and adults, make food from home eat there, balance deposit and visit zoo and come out collect your food and take. Zoological park own cafeteria outside
29 जनवरी 2019 8:45
Awesome experience. Close to nature. No eatables allowed inside park which is essential to ensure animals are kept away from visitors. Avoid feeding cold drinks or milks to Monkeys if you go there. MUST GO PLACE in winters specially with KIDS.
24 जनवरी 2019 17:47
Around 130+ species of animals present here, nice representation of them. And a very organised way to enter here.
There are three ticket counter on which an indian adult can get the ticket in only 40Rs and a Foreignner can get same by paying 200 bucks.
There are more than 4 e-vehicle but you have to pay for using them!
Closes at 5: 30pm in winter
22 जनवरी 2019 0:03
Loved that place. It took almost 2-3 hrs to see complete zoo. Bad luck was that, we went on Sunday and lost almost 45 mins to get the tickets and enter inside the zoo. Good place to bring your child. It is adjacent to Purana Kila. No issue with the parking if you prefer early. Outside you can find number of things for eating but don't expect good taste. Inside few stalls are there. Public Toilets and drinking water are in good condition. Overall, it won't disappoint you.
19 जनवरी 2019 22:21
It better if you go by foot but it may be tiring because it's large in size otherwise u can use battery operated trolleys. U need atleast 4-5 hours to really see the place.
Maintain cleanliness and visit the website of national zoological park for some basic information and don't forget to click some pictures.
18 जनवरी 2019 6:55
The place was awesome, one should had to visit once as there are so much forest and greenries, surrounded by tree and forest, Many animals such as Elephant, Hippo, Rhinos, birds, parrot, monkey, lion, tiger, Leopard, deer, Bear, fox, and many more animal, You can not give food to animal, If u have senior citizen with you then take ride of 50₹ per person, if you are group of youth or younger people then go yourself by walk and explore everything as per your time and mood, by 6 o clock it will be closed, Ticket is 40₹ per adult person and 20₹ per child. Go and Enjoy your day, also go as early as u can Because it takes time to explore all the Zoo in once. This is big zoo to go through all.
17 जनवरी 2019 21:45
Delhi Zoo is not maintained properly. The ponds are not clean and variety of animals are very less. It is full of deers. And animals like Zebra, Giraffe, Ostrich are not here. Food options are limited in zoo. Parking space is ample here. A good place to come with kids. But don't expect much variety of animals. This place could have been better. Good place to go in winters. Go early morning because it takes 2 to 3 hours to visit zoo. I think In evening they stop entry after 4: 00 pm. So reach here by 3: 00 pm.

Note - Don't carry food items from home or outside. They will collect it at entry gate. They don't allow food items inside.
You can buy ticket for battery car from inside if you don't want to visit zoo by foot.
14 जनवरी 2019 23:36
Very clean and positive environment. Zoo is well maintained and managed. But little crowdy on weekends and holidays. So try to visit in non-holidays weekdays.
13 जनवरी 2019 2:54
I am very very. Unhappy totally wasteg of money and time. If you want to go please go Patna sgju you will enjoy. Nothing you can see. If you have Girl friend go there, take kiss come back to home and sleep. That's it. I have wasted 120 rupees. And by that way choices is your
09 जनवरी 2019 23:19
A great place for children to visit. But the vehicle they provide does not take you near enclosure and you have to walk a lot. Bettrr not to hire vehicle and walk along the arrow marked line of zoo.
09 जनवरी 2019 22:34
This is the place where you can find natural habitat and chirping of birds and sounds of animals around you. This place is full of immensity and isolation. You can go with your family or with your friends.
03 जनवरी 2019 23:44
Delhi ZOO is in a huge radius if you are walking its kinda difficult to roam around, however there a shuttle inside the zoo which will help you to roam around.
Entry Tickets 20/- INR
Shuttle 70/- INR
Cant take any food inside and inside you don't get much food options.
02 जनवरी 2019 14:09
This is the amazing place for kids to learn as this zoo houses so many species of birds and animals.
Superb facilities, clean environment, availability of electric car too.
I loved it. And a good initiative of not allowing the food inside, to maintain cleanliness and also people can't feed animals.
18 दिसंबर 2018 12:25
Wonderful please. Many kind of animals are there. Entry fee is 40 rupees. Entry fee for Camera is 50 rupees. Rental Battery car service is available there rs. 70 per head. The zoo is good but smaller than other zoo.
02 दिसंबर 2018 7:52
