Visited in 2008, Purana Qila is built on the banks of river Yamuna and is the oldest fort of Delhi. It has been said that the fort was previously built by the Pandavas for their kingdom Indraprastha as some grey ware of that period was found during excavations. Purana Qila is one of the oldest forts in Delhi, India. Built by the second Mughal Emperor Humayun and Surid Sultan Sher Shah Suri, it is thought by many to be located on the site of the ancient city of Indraprastha.
Purana Quila is situated near Delhi zoo.you can visit this beautiful place and explore. Pleasant time to visit this place in winter. Spread in large area. Ticket price is rs-50 for offline booking and rs-45 /- if you book online. There is a small museum inside this quila. When you enter it’s in Right side after entrance.
You can reach here directly by cab or take a metro and get down at Pragati Maidan (now called Supreme Court) metro station. Average Boating lake, can take kids for picnic.
It is a famous Qila of delhi and most of tourist visit this place and it is next of Zoo.
It is very clean and tidy and upu will find the greenery inside the Qila which is quite impressive. You can sit there and spend a day with your family.
But please dont visit for boating purpose as there is no boating in purana qila now and now you can see the small lake only which is also not clean.
Tickets are available both online and offline for both qila and lake.
The old fort of Delhi respresents the great Architecture build by Afghani Ruler SherShah Suri. The fort which is spread around two kilometres reminds us about our great culture and Architecture heritage.
This place is not at all worthy without access to the lake and that's been the case mostly during pandemic. Not even maintained as a picnic spot. No restrooms, no eateries, no streetfood. Cud hv been a picnic spot in winters but couples have invaded here everywhere. Museum of antiques is there to give a feel abt old centuries, can't pull a crowd though.

The National Zoological Park is a 176-acre zoo in New Delhi, India. A 16th-century citadel, a sprawling green island and a motley collection of animals and birds, all in the middle of a burgeoning urban Delhi. There are around 200 varieties of trees in Delhi. Zoo including trees and plants of medicinal importance. _
Number of animals: 1,347 Exhibits: White Tiger, Asiatic Lion, Jaguar, Chimpanzee, Indian Elephant
_
First I saw the white bear, then I saw the black; Then I saw the camel with a hump upon his back; Then I saw the grey wolf, with mutton in his maw; Then I saw the wombat waddle in the straw; Then I saw the elephant a-waving of his trunk; Then I saw the monkeys—mercy, how unpleasantly they smelt!
Average place to hang out specially for couples. Don't go there with your parents or family. If you don't get ticket of Zoo then you can spend your time there.
Nice place but don't go with Family. It's more like a Lover's make out place rather than tourist spot. Those couples publically indulge in illicit behaviour. When I visited with my friends & saw those couples fawning over each other, I was glad I didn't came with my family.
Must worth Watching. There is a Laser Show and Museum to explore the Excavation made at the Fort. If planning to visit the Zoo definitely plan this as well. Can provide a visual learning to Children
The walls of the fort rise to a height of 18 metres, traverse about 1.5 km, and have three arched gateways: the Bara Darwaza (Big Gate) facing west, which is still in use today; the south gate, also popularly known as the 'Humayun Gate' (probably so known because it was constructed by Humayun, or perhaps because Humayun's Tomb is visible from there) ; and lastly, the 'Talaqi Gate', often known as the "forbidden gate". All the gates are double-storeyed sandstone structures flanked by two huge semi-circular bastion towers, decorated with white and coloured-marble inlays and blue tiles. They are replete with detailing, including ornate overhanging balconies, or jharokhas, and are topped by pillared pavilions (chhatris), all features that are reminiscent of Rajasthani architecture as seen in the North and South Gates, and which were amply repeated in future Mughal architecture. Despite the grandeurs of the exterior, few of interior structures have survived except the Qila-i Kuhna Mosque and the Shermandal, both credited to Sher Shah.
If you are monuments lover then you should definitely visit this place as there are so many monuments and in some places there is little bit adventure as well. There is a lake also which is so beautiful to visit especially with group of friends. This is full and fun one day visit package with group of friends
The Purana Qila has a harmony of Muslim and Hindu architectural styles. Sher Shah built the Qila with a city spread around it. The fort has three main gates—Humayun Darwaza, Talaqi Darwaza, and Bara Darwaza. Each double-tier rampart was made of sandstone. The gates were surrounded by a moat through which, once upon a time, river Yamuna used to flow.
a year ago May went from here on the side of your school local tour. People come to the with lovers this fort, so it is not right to go with parents here.

Purana Qila (lit. 'Old Fort') is one of the oldest forts in Delhi, India. It is located near the expansive Pragati Maidan exhibition ground and is separated from the Dhyanchand Stadium by the Mathura Road, Delhi. Very nice. Very attractive. Very beautiful ️.
This place is too good, but mostly this place is fulfilled by couples, I guess couples are more comfortable and spending time here with their partner rather than visiting historic buildings. #Old #Fort #OldFort #Architecture #History #Historic #Yamuna #River #Museum
Purana Qila, Hindustani for "Old Fort" also formerly called Shergarh & Sher Fort is one of the oldest forts in Delhi, India. It is located near the expansive Pragati Maidan exhibition ground and is separated from the Dhyanchand Stadium by the Mathura Road, Delhi.
The origins of the Purana Qila lie in the walls of Dinpanah, the new city of Delhi being constructed by Mughal emperor Humayun, in the general vicinity of the ancient Indraprastha ruins. Abul Fazl states that he built the fort in the place of that of ancient Indraprastha. The founder of the Suri Dynasty, Sher Shah Suri, defeated Humayun and made changes to the fort, strengthening its fortifications and completing its walls. He also had another fort built there called Shergarh, where the governor resided. His project, however, was a continuation of Humayun's construction of a citadel for a royal city. He also built many structures inside the fort. Additions to the fort have been believed to have been made even after his rule. The extent of his contribution to the fort's construction is disputed. The historical attribution of its construction is also uncertain judging from primary sources. Muhammad Khwandamir said that Humayun laid the foundation of the city on a mound near Yamuna. The construction of the walls and fortifications were almost finished by Humayun's time. Tarikh-i-Da'udi states that Sher Shah Suri's royal city remained incomplete upon his death and he had named his fort Shergarh. Abbas Sarwani states the two forts being constructed by him were incomplete when he died. Tarikh-i-Khan-Jahan states that Salim Shah Suri had constructed a wall defending Dinpanah of Humayun.
Purana Qila and its environs flourished as the "sixth city of Delhi". On 7 October 1556 Hindu king Hem Chandra Vikramaditya, who had defeated Akbar's forces decisively at Battle of Delhi (1556) was crowned in Purana Qila.
Purana Qila is Urdu for Old Fort and is situated in New Delhi. It is often referred to as Shergarh or Sher Fort after the Mughal Emperor Sher Shah Suri, who began its construction.
Purana Qila is said to be inhabited for the past 2,500 years, and excavations at the site show evidence for materials belonging to the pre-Mauryan era.
The construction of the Purana Qila began under the reign of Sher Shah Suri. However, it was completed by Humayun, who conquered him. It is known to have been constructed at the site of Indraprastha from Mahabharatha, and entourages the monumental depictions of Indo-Islamic architectural designs.
It is a cluster of small buildings built on an island-like land, which is surrounded by water on all sides. Thus, during construction, it was kept in mind to build the walls tall and thick in order to protect the interiors from any damage caused due to overflow of water.
Purana Qila is where the pandavas stayed. There are areas in the purana qila where civilians are not allowed to enter or even go that side, its sealed for unknown reasons. There have been mysterious sightings of children wandering here from a gurukul which existed here during Mahabharata era. Qutab Minar pillar is the spot where Sri Ram left his body and went up.
Am amazing museum with old artifacts and a very large area where you can hang out. It was fun. Just beside the national zoo it was cool visiting both places in a single day.
It's very experienced to visit purana Qila️ I had travelled all the beautiful building and adorable monuments and scriptures and I wish to travel again with my love ones ️
Old 13th/14th century fort which was constructed on the ruins of 9-12 century BC Indraprastha from Mahabharata (the kingdom of Pandavas). There's a museum inside that houses the painted greyware from that time. Can easily spend an entire day there with family as a picnic spot. There's a moat where boating takes place. Reducing one star for upkeep of public conveniences.
It's a great place for outing. You can see the craftsmanship of our predecessor on the walls and the view inside is peaceful. But lately it's becoming a couple spot. There's a beautiful lake adjacent and it has a peaceful ambience.
As ritual here at bhakto mandir devotee offer liquor as prashad and distribute the same to baggers or you can say addicts including ladies and children

Lovely place with so much tranquility. The garden, the monument and more over the greenery is mindblowing. Proper place to chill out on a sunday. Moreover the lightshow in the afternoon is like cherry on the top.

Purana Qila' (Old Fort) is one of the oldest forts in Delhi. The present citadel at Purana Qila was believed to have been built under Humayun and Afghan Sher Shah Suri (‘The Lion King’). Excavations point to traces from the 3rd century BC, the pre-Mauryan period. The fort was the inner citadel of the city of Din Panah during Humayun's rule who renovated it in 1533 and completed five years later. The founder of the Suri Dynasty, Sher Shah Suri, defeated Humayun in 1540, naming the fort Shergarh; he added several more structures in the complex during his five-year reign. Purana Qila and its environs flourished as the "sixth city of Delhi".
This is an ancient fort of ancient India and people know this place by the name of Purana Qila. This fort is mostly ruin but some place such as the mosque in this fort is the same.
