- Huge queue on weekends.
- Book from QR code available outside, but make sure you have strong internet connection.
- Many monuments to see, but amazing thing was the museum with projector talking about freedom struggle, Martyrs.

Couldn't go inside. They were not allowing. I think it was on 29th September, as 2nd October was approaching, for security purpose they didn't allow.
21 सितंबर 2023 9:56
If you are interested in history then you can visit. But going there to see fancy things will disappoint. For better experience visit during winters bcuz in summer it can be very exhausting due to high temperature as its an open space. You can also visit museums inside. Overall good place for history lovers but for timepassers its not recommended.

Place is overcrowded with people. Better than viewing from road I will recommend going to a train in Old Delhi station you will be able to see walls, crocodile streams and big gates very closely. The feel from seeing from train is different.

Red Fort is a historical fort in the Indian capital city of Delhi. It is also a significant location because every year, on Independence Day, the Prime Minister of India hoists the national flag from the ramparts of Red Fort. The fort also witnessed the first ever raising of National Flag on 15th August 1947 by the first Prime Minister of India, Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru. The Red Fort is thus called because it’s built from red sand stone.

A 17th century marvel of architecture, and symbol of India's Independence day celebration every year - Lal Qila (Red Fort).
Situated around 25kms from Delhi Airport, Red Fort was built beside that river Yamuna, in 10yrs from 1638 to 1648 by Shah Jahan as he wanted to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi.
A marvel of Persian architecture, that comprises of several palaces within. Rang mahal, Khas Mahal, Moti masjid etc. Rang mahal has been centre of attraction for centuries.
Govt has extended facilities of online booking to reduce queues at ticket counter.
Suggest to use online booking platform and plan early visit to avoid crowd.
Like most ASI maintained properties, Red for is also closed on Monday.
1.5 to 2 hrs might be needed to cover all points within Red Fort, and hence plan accordingly.

The market inside the fort is quite nice.
Visited a museum inside and watched a movie based on the story of history of Lal Quila by Dalmia Bharat group (each cost me ₹100/person)
Nearby located a famous market 'Chandni chowk'.
A must (at least one-time) visit on the journey of Delhi.
Date of experience - Jan 2023
Suggested duration 2-3 hours.

The red fort or lal qila is a historic fort located in northeast delhi is one of the greatest monuments of india and lovely place to roam and spend time. The buildings of red fort are very magnificent. You can enjoy the some interesting places like meena bazaar, museum dedicated to history of red fort, gardens and delhi food walk. I would suggest to go there and have a real feel of the royal lifestyle of Mughals. This place is also easy to reach from metro, cab or auto also.
31 जनवरी 2023 5:24
As soon as we hear the name, we get nostalgic. We have always watched the PM of India hosting the Flag on Independence Day. It's a great privilege to visit the Place.
I got down at Chandni chowk Metro station, from here it's around 500mts I guess, you could easily walk. Once you get off the station and enter the streets, the Red fort can be seen.
This place has an entrance ticket, which costs 50 per head for basic and 80 for museum visit.
For NRI's it's higher.
There are paid guides who give details about the place. I was shocked after entering, it was massive. There are many local shops inside. There is a canteen. Wheel chair accessibility is there.
A must place to visit if you come to Delhi. ️

Magnificent structure with holiday crowd, but the QR system for tickets does not work, and it’s a lot of wait time to buy tickets
Comparatively, the Jhansi fort has a better ticket system with an advanced hand held device printing receipt immediately

The Red Fort Complex was built as the palace fort of Shahjahanabad – the new capital of the fifth Mughal Emperor of India, Shah Jahan. Named for its massive enclosing walls of red sandstone, it is adjacent to an older fort, the Salimgarh, built by Islam Shah Suri in 1546, with which it forms the Red Fort Complex. The private apartments consist of a row of pavilions connected by a continuous water channel, known as the Nahr-i-Behisht (Stream of Paradise). The Red Fort is considered to represent the zenith of Mughal creativity which, under the Shah Jahan, was brought to a new level of refinement. The planning of the palace is based on Islamic prototypes, but each pavilion reveals architectural elements typical of Mughal building, reflecting a fusion of Persian, Timurid and Hindu traditions The Red Fort’s innovative planning and architectural style, including the garden design, strongly influenced later buildings and gardens in Rajasthan, Delhi, Agra and further afield.

This palace fortress is known as the Red Fort because of the red sandstone fabric of its rampart walls. The fort with its halls, palaces, pavilions and serene gardens was completed in 1648. Within the enclosure of the red fort are located many fairytale buildings. The Diwan-i-Khas (also known as Shah Mahal) and the Rang Mahal (also called Imtiyaz Mahal or palace of distinctions) are the two most conspicuous buildings inside the Red Fort. The Hall of Public Audience (Diwan-i- Aam) is another famous building within the Red Fort. Son-et-lumiere shows, tracing the history of the Mughal Empire in India, outlining their glory and the eventful causes for their downfall are held in the Red Fort every evening.

Very beautiful fort.this was constructed by shah jahan when he decided to shift his capital from agra to delhi.

Every Indian history seeker should visit once!

The fort represents the peak in Mughal architecture under Shah Jahan, and combines Persianate palace architecture with Indian traditions.

Once you reach Chandni chock be careful about your belongings. There are lots of pickpockets are in that area.

It’s better to pre book the tickets online. Just type “Redfort tickets online “ it will land you to a website. In the website you can book your tickets by paying online.

Don’t forget to carry water and a little food inside.

If you like my review don’t forget to give it a like. Thank you.

This monument is so large in area! The government has ensured property safety and security of this place.
However, yes, you would have to cross the busy road while coming from Chandi Chowk!
You can enjoy the place even from outside and yes you can find plenty of people there who would help you in clicking the perfect picture.
Filled with local sellers, you can have many new things in your instant kart.
Enjoy!

Nice place for visit but ticket system create confusion, on entry ticket only you visit outside not any museum
14 अक्टूबर 2022 4:16
The architectural beauty of this place is amazing and this place was served as the main residence of the Mughal Emperors. I have visited there quite a long ago. There is also a museum inside that. Generally the gardens or 'bagh' of Mughal period are called 'char (four) Bag' because generally all the gardens are square in size and divided into four squared gardens.
09 अक्टूबर 2022 23:02
Red Fort experience could have been better and it is one of the less well managed sites by the Archeological Survey of India. First of all the information on the Red Fort website about the location of the ticket booth was absent which meant we had to walk quite a bit to get to the entrance. Second the guards were allowing some people a private tour of Diwan-e-khas where the place is off limits to the rest of the visitors. Third due to a private function we were not able to visit the Baoli and memorial to Swatantra Saniks. There was no information posted about the closure of part of the Red Fort due to a private function.
08 अक्टूबर 2022 18:37
Brothers and sisters, today if we have reached here after independence, it is because of the contribution of all the Prime Ministers, all the governments and even the governments of all the States. I want to express my feelings of respect and gratitude to all those previous governments and ex-Prime Ministers who have endeavoured to take our present day India to such heights and who have added to the country's glory.

The Red fort at Delhi is a must see for all. It was built by the Mughal and gradually moved to other invaders who came to India. The Indian history is fully unfolded by the LIGHT & SOUND show which happens in the evening.
The Architecture of the place gives a good example of the Mughal era. Being a World heritage site, it can be slightly better maintained.
09 सितंबर 2022 2:05
It was nicely decorated to celebrate 75th anniversary of Independence day apart from the historical value of thi world heritage site.

The Red Fort is a historic fort in the city of Delhi in India. It was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal dynasty for nearly 200 years, until 1856. It is located in the centre of Delhi and houses a number of museums. In addition to accommodating the emperors and their households, it was the ceremonial and political center of the Mughal state and the setting for events critically impacting the region.

Built by Shah Jahan in 1648 as the seat of Mughal power-a role it maintained until 1857-the magnificent crescent-shaped Red Fort in New Delhi, named after the stunning red sandstone used in its construction, covers a vast area of more than two square kilometers, all of it surrounded by a large moat. Highlights include its two largest gates: the impressive Lahore Gate (the fort's main entrance) and the elaborately decorated Delhi Gate, once used by the emperor for ceremonial processions.

A fun part of a visit is exploring Chatta Chowk, a 17th-century covered bazaar selling everything from jewelry to silk garments, as well as souvenirs and food items. While you can explore the fort yourself, guided tours are offered and provide a fascinating insight into the life and times of the Shah, including a peek into the stunning white marble Hall of Public Audiences (Diwan-i-Am) where he received his subjects.

Hot Tip: Try to stick around for the sound and light show held each evening featuring important events in the fort's history.
24 अगस्त 2021 5:44
The overall experience was good having tour and exploring the history of our india but the matter was arround 85% of the whole red fort is closed either for the purpose of repairing or for the sake of their damage due to old age so all u are left with that 15% to visit and explore like museum and the garden all arround.
Over all it was nice experience but some how felt it the public entrance atlest in the site which are very interesting to visit are open then it would be damm good other than go there click 20-30 pic if you are with a female member do some shopping for them.

Must visit place for Indians as well as for tourists.

There's a museum where you can experience the whole Saga of Indian independence from British empire chronologically, there are various artifacts of kept in various sections dedicated to meritorious freedom fighters.

There is a small market inside red fort from where you can buy good stuffs and souvenir.

This place looks even more beautiful in evening as the lights add more charm to the fort.

Nearest Metro Station: Lal Quila
Nearest Railway Station: Delhi Junction

There is famous Chandni Chowk nearby.
08 अगस्त 2021 15:20
Must visit. I've been visited the LAL QUILA, which has been listed in the UNESCO World Heritage sites. Even from my office window I can have a glimpse of the magnificent Lal Quila & Jama Masjid.
Everyone, whoever is visiting Delhi should watch this beautiful audio & video showcasing history of Delhi & Red Fort and can get a taste of Indian culture with a dinner of local delicacies in Chandni Chowk.
01 अगस्त 2021 15:00

Red Fort is a great place for people who love to visit historic places. Forts and the ambiance is great. Museum inside the Red Fort is also awesome with great collections of historic things.

Be prepared for a long walk. Avoid visiting the Red Fort during summers. There are food corners/restaurants inside the Red Fort.

Go with your family or a group of friends to enjoy the visit.

I went to the Red Fort with one of my friends and we had a great time viewing the historic monuments at both sides while taking a walk. Enjoyed visiting the museum too.

The Red Fort is a historic fort in the city of Delhi (in Old Delhi) in India that served as the main residence of the Mughal Emperors. Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned construction of the Red Fort on 12 May 1638, when he decided to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi. Originally red and white, its painting is credited to architect Ustad Ahmad Lahori, who also constructed the Taj Mahal. It was renovated between May 1639 and April 1648 based on an earlier fort.

On 15 August 1947, the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, raised the Indian national flag above the Lahori Gate. Every year on India's Independence Day (15 August), the prime minister hoists the Indian tricolour flag at the fort's main gate and delivers a nationally broadcast speech from its ramparts.

Constructed in 1639 by the fifth Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as the palace of his fortified capital Shahjahanabad, the Red Fort is named for its massive enclosing walls of red sandstone. The imperial apartments consist of a row of pavilions, connected by a water channel known as the Stream of Paradise (Nahr-i-Bihisht). The fort complex is "considered to represent the zenith of Mughal creativity under Shah Jahan", and although the palace was planned according to Islamic prototypes, each pavilion contains architectural elements typical of Mughal buildings that reflect a fusion of Persian, Timurid and Hindu traditions. The Red Fort's innovative architectural style, including its garden design, influenced later buildings and gardens in Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Kashmir, Braj, Rohilkhand and elsewhere.

The fort was plundered of its artwork and jewels during Nadir Shah's invasion of the Mughal Empire in 1747. Most of the fort's precious marble structures were subsequently destroyed by the British following the Revolt of 1857. The fort's defensive walls were largely spared, and the fortress was subsequently used as a garrison. [10] It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007 as part of the Red Fort Complex.

Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned construction of the Red Fort on 12 May 1638, when he decided to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi. Originally red and white, Shah Jahan's favourite colours, its design is credited to architect Ustad Ahmad Lahori, who also constructed the Taj Mahal. The fort lies along the Yamuna River, which fed the moats surrounding most of the walls. Construction began in the sacred month of Muharram, on 13 May 1638.: 01 Supervised by Shah Jahan, it was completed on 6 April 1648. Unlike other Mughal forts, the Red Fort's boundary walls are asymmetrical to contain the older Salimgarh Fort.: 04 The fortress-palace was a focal point of the city of Shahjahanabad, which is present-day Old Delhi. Shah Jahan's successor, Aurangzeb, added the Pearl Mosque to the emperor's private quarters, constructing barbicans in front of the two main gates to make the entrance to the palace more circuitous.: 08

The administrative and fiscal structure of the Mughal dynasty declined after Aurangzeb, and the 18th century saw a degeneration of the palace. When Jahandar Shah took over the Red Fort in 1712, it had been without an emperor for 30 years. Within a year of beginning his rule, Shah was murdered and replaced by Farrukhsiyar. Muhammad Shah, known as 'Rangila' (the Colourful) for his interest in art. In 1739, Persian emperor Nadir Shah easily defeated the Mughal army, plundering the Red Fort, including the Peacock Throne. Nadir Shah returned to Persia after three months, leaving a destroyed city and a weakened Mughal empire to Muhammad Shah.: 09 The internal weakness of the Mughal Empire made the Mughals only titular rulers of Delhi, and a 1752 treaty made the Marathas protectors of the throne at Delhi. The 1758 Maratha victory at Sirhind aided by the Sikhs and successive defeat at Panipat placed them in further conflict with Ahmad Shah Durrani

Red fort is located at Chandni chowk, New Delhi. It was built by Mughal Emperor. It is one of the best historical place.
People must visit these place to gain enjoy and gain knowledge.

The fort was the main home of the emperors of the Mughal dynasty for around 200 years until the 1857 mutiny. It was Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan who got it constructed in 1639
This great walled citadel with red sandstone wall took around 10 years to complete. Visit to the Red Fort is not only an Educational but also a cultural trip. This great monument is the standing example of rich Indian culture intermingling with the Mughal culture which the Mughals had brought to India with them.

The Red Fort is a historical fortification in the old Delhi area. Shah Jahan constructed it in the year 1639 as a result of a capital shift from Agra to Delhi. Used as the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal dynasty, this imposing piece of architecture derives its name from its impregnable red sandstone walls. The Red Fort is vast but its also beautiful. The market at the entrance is magical selling everything from antiques to Persian rugs. The fort does tend to get very hot and any air-conditioning you may experience is purely natural.

Originally red and white, its design is credited to architect Ustad Ahmad Lahori, who also constructed the Taj Mahal. It was constructed between May 1639 and April 1648. The Red Fort has an area of 254.67 acres (103.06 ha) enclosed by 2.41 kilometres (1.50 mi) of defensive walls, punctuated by turrets and bastions that vary in height from 18 metres (59 ft) on the river side to 33 metres (108 ft) on the city side. The fort is octagonal, with the north–south axis longer than the east–west axis. The marble, floral decorations and the fort's double domes exemplify later Mughal architecture. The Lahori and Delhi Gates were used by the public, and the Khizrabad Gate was for the emperor. The Lahori Gate is the main entrance, leading to a domed shopping area known as the Chatta Chowk (covered bazaar).

You don't expect a place like this to be located right between all the chaotic roads of old delhi. The walled city of old delhi has its own flavours and experience but this place will male you feel like a royal when you enter the gate.
Not just historically but also it's an important place for political leaders as well.
Light show in night is the best thing to do with your loved one under the open sky. Its surprisingly romantic and it will give you butterflies in your stomach with how cute could a simple light how in a historical place could be.
I'll just share few photos which I have with my friends so that it could help somebody tto decide to visit this beautiful place.

Its English name red fort is a translation of the Hindustani Lāl Qila (Hindi: लाल क़िला, Urdu: لال قلعہ), deriving from its red-sandstone walls. Lal was derived from Hindustani language meaning "Red" and Qalàh derived from Persian word meaning "Fortress". As the residence of the imperial family, the fort was originally known as the "Blessed Fort" (Qila-i-Mubārak). Agra Fort is also known as Lāl Qila.

The UNESCO World Heritage–listed Red Fort (Lal Qila) traces its roots back to the middle of the 17th century, when Mughal Emperor Shahjahan moved his base from Agra to Delhi. For the two centuries that followed, this gargantuan sandstone complex served as the royal residence of the Mughal Empire. Today, it’s one of the city’s most popular attractions, often visited in tandem with nearby Chandni Chowk. The Basics One of the best-preserved architectural sites in Delhi, the Red Fort provides a fascinating glimpse into the inner workings of India’s former Mughal Empire. Highlights of this octagonal complex include the Diwan-i-Aam, where emperors and prime ministers once addressed the public, plus the Mumtaz Mahal, which hosts a Mughal history museum, complete with six halls full of artifacts ranging from old manuscripts to astronomical tools. Don’t miss the Diwan-i-Khas, a small hall full of decorated archways and topped with regal chhatris (domed canopies). The Red Fort is a highlight on most group and private sightseeing tours of Old and New Delhi, many of which also include stops at the nearby Chandni Chowk market, India Gate, and the Jama Masjid. Evening tours may include admission to the Red Fort sound and light show along with dinner.

Red Fort is one of the famous heritage site of Delhi. This place is so enriched with our history and culture that a review would be very little to explain it. This fort was built by Sultan Akbar of Mughal sultanate.
The whole fort is made up red sandstone. There are huge windows and gaps within the fort for efficient passage of air which keeps the fort cool. It is located in Purani Dilli which is full of colors, culture and chaos. It should be a must visit place on your Dilli wishlist.
28 फरवरी 2019 9:21
Nothing great about it. Architecture is very average quality. Looks like mughal didn't know much about architecture. Should be demolished to make a hospital.
19 फरवरी 2019 18:24
Other than the heat and the heavy crowd, everything else was just fine. Nothing great, nothing not so great.

Keep your wallets safe.

Although there's police security but don't just think that thugs will not pick your pocket. Remember what Anup Soni teaches us? 'Saavdhaan rahein. Satark rahein. ' Yeah follow that.

And when you see your national flag waving with pride, you get chills running down your spine.

You get to see the market that's inside the Red Fort premises. Then there's a little Taj Mahal kinda building inside and a garden. Beautiful place though. Should you go once. ️

Well maintained fort. Entry fees are 35 for card and 50 for cash only for Indian residential people. Lockers are available.well maintain and clean area. Nearest metro station is Lal Quilla.

Nice historic place to visit in Delhi. But at the entrance inside the red fort premises a local bazar has been setup which is not giving an optimum feel of History.

This place has good number of visitors each day of the week. I traveled on a working day but then too it had a quite good rush. The ticket counters were full with long queues. It would be better if you book online tickets and enjoy direct entry.

RED FORT _ open: 10 a.m. To 8p.m. Daily.known as Lal (Lal means red and Qila means fort), it is laid out along the river Yamuna as an irregular octagon.lt surrounded by a wall of about 2.4 kilometers in circumference and is built of Red Sandstone. Really enjoyed a lot, we (team of 10) have visited New Delhi last month. With excitement, I saw red fort. Even we stayed there for 5 Hours. One thing I liked there was, providing a bottle of water for one person (and that too per mobile number). Really great idea right!

Very nice historic place. Small portion open to general public. Car parking is far from entrance but Toto's are available. Better to buy online ticket to avoid rush. Lots of shops inside for various item. Bargaining is must in many of those shops.

Like most natural icons in India, the Red Fort is unmissable if a little grubby and down at heel. I suppose you could say that it has remained in its natural historic state but with so many visitors and the teeming hordes outside, it rather takes off the romantic edge. Best to go early or towards sunset for best effect. Plenty of information if you want the history of the empire. Price differential by nationality and no cameras (which is increasingly common at Indian shows and places if interest)

If you're in delhi, this is must known place to visit with your family, friends or relatives.
This is beautiful place which signifies the ancient construction architecture abilities.

Red Fort which is also known as Lal Qila was built by the Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan. This monument represents the grandeur of the Mughal Court, which was constructed during the 17th century. Lal Qila was once the residential area of the Imperial Family of India. It was the capital of the Mughal rulers until 1857, when Bahadur Shah Zafar II went in exile after he was defeated by the Britishers.

In 2007, Red Fort was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is situated in Old Delhi. The construction of this fort started in 1638 and it took over 10 years to complete the work in 1648. It was originally called as 'Qila-i-Mubarak', meaning the blessed fort, as it was the royal residence of Mughals.

During the British colonial rule, this fort was mainly used as a cantonment, which remained under the control of Indian Army after Indian Independence. This fort has various structures including Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, Nahr-i-Behisht, Zenana, Mumtaz Mahal, Moti Masjid and Hayat Bakhsh Bagh. Red Fort also houses a famous Swatantra Sangrama Sangrahalaya or the Museum of the Independence Movement. There is also a Daawat Khana in Red Fort, which has been converted into a Tea House, where tourists can have tea and snacks.

The Red fort is our one of the best heritage
place.
Good Tourists place The Red Fort is one of
the most popular monuments in the history
of India. It has a big area for the visitors to
watch over. Different sections have their
own importance. Highlighted. It has also
has a museum showcasing various historic
parts of the past. Be it uniforms, Spears,
swords or old telephonic instruments. A
good watch. But a big factor to be
considered is the weather. It's an open air
place, so if you go on a sunny day make it a
point to carry your goggles and cap. Not to
forget drinking water. The place is
facilitated with I public washrooms and
drinking water. But please choose a
pleasant weather period to visit or else
you'll be drenched in sweat.

It Will be an amazing experience if you visit
there
