A must visit museum for lovers of art, culture, history and of course dolls.

Although first i thought it will be a great place for my 4 years old daughter but these dolls are not for soo young children. She found it boring. Yes but it is really knowledgeable place for children of 7-8 years or above as they can understand about the culture and attire of the dolls.

Shankar's international doll museum is indias first and only. It is situated in new delhi. It is a very good place to visit with kids and family. Kids can learn and see so many varieties of dolls not even from all of india but from all over the world. It is a very good initiative to encourage the making of dolls.

Good place for kids, specially girls. You can find dolls of every country here. Most of them are rare and antique which you can't buy anywhere now. So its quite interesting to see history in the form of decorated dolls. Children will enjoy here a lot. But not a place for full day. There are restaurants outside and street food also if anyone want lunch.

The place is genuine but has not been maintained and certainly not clean. Since lots of kids come to this place, keeping it clear should be the top priority.

The International Dolls Museum is a large collection of dolls in Delhi, India. It was set up by K. Shankar Pillai, a political cartoonist. Housed in the Children's Book Trust building on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, accessed through a separate entrance, a winding staircase, leading up to a foyer. The museum has a floor area of 5,184.5 sq ft (481.66 m2) and occupies a portion of the first floor.
K. Shankar Pillai (1902–1989), noted cartoonist, set up Children's Book Trust, a pioneering work in the field of children’s literature in India, in 1957. Later, a gift of a doll from a Hungarian diplomat gave Shankar the idea of collecting dolls from countries he visited. He often held exhibitions for poor children, and at one exhibition in Delhi, among the hundreds of visitors were the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru accompanied by his daughter Indira Gandhi. Indira was inspired and together with Shankar set up an international museum for dolls, eventually materializing on November 30,1965.

The principal collection consists of gifts from Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and many subsequent Prime Ministers, including Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Also several embassies and diplomatic missions in Delhi gifted dolls to the museum. Visiting dignitaries like Madame Tito, Queen Frederika of Greece, the Queen of Thailand, the sister of Shah of Iran, the wives of Presidents of Mexico and Indonesia and many others gifted dolls representing their respective nations

Dolls Museum is one of the most renowned museums in New Delhi which has a huge collections of dolls from across the globe. The renowned political cartoonist, K. Shankar Pillai (1902–1989) founded this museum in 1965 with thousand dolls. The museum covers an area of 5,184.5 square feet (481.66 m2). The former President of India, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the Dolls Museum and at the inauguration time the number of dolls was only 500. In between 1965 and in 1987, the number of dolls has risen to 5,000, a vast majority coming as gifts. Shankar Pillai was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award by Government of India in 1976.

Today the volume has increased to 6,500 exhibits from almost 85 countries, adding to its international character.

First of all if you're using metro, get down at ITO and leave through gate no. 4. It gets you right in front of the museum. Ticket cost is rs 25 for adults. There are more than 6,500 dolls from 85 countries.

For normal tourists - it's a great place for your kids and they can learn about many Indian states and other countries if the adults help them. It will take around 30-40 minutes.

For art, culture, history enthusiasts and critical minds (also UPSC aspirants) - it will be helpful if one has a pen and a notebook. There's a lot to learn about different counties and their cultures and history from the dolls. One will be able to learn a lot about different cultures present in India. For these people the museum will take minimum 2 hours.
Also a little study about German dolls, Spanish bullfighting, Ramayana in Indonesia, maypole dancing, classical dance forms of India, manipuri rashleela before visiting the museum will be helpful.

A must visit place. It's very conveniently located, just next to a metro station. The collection and presentation of dolls is simply amazing! It's the only place on Earth to have such a collection of International Dolls. Major countries are covered. Dolls from Japan are simply superb. A must visit place for any Traveller to Delhi.

Shankar Doll museum is very fascinating and awesome place for kids and adults too. It is located at ITO with very reasonable entry fee. It hosts more than 7000 Dolls from 85 countries. Each Doll and it's attire represents the country and it's respective culture.

You can typically spend around 1-1.5 hours enjoying the place. However photography is strictly phohibited inside the museum which is little disheartening.

You can find parking space on Sundays easily. This place also have restroom and drinking water.
