The nearest metro station to India Gate is Central Secretariat that falls on the Yellow Line. Exit from the station and take a bus or auto to reach the India Gate.

Dholpur House is the former residence of the Rana of Dholpur in Delhi. It is located next to India Gate on Shahjahan Road.

It was constructed in the 1920s in the Art Deco style. The walls on the exterior are painted in white.

Today the Union Public Service Commission is housed here. [1] The interviews for recruiting candidates to the All India Services and Group A services for Government of India are conducted here.

The nearest Metro station, Khan Market (violet Line) is just 700 meters away. You can take a walk or auto to reach the UPSC building. India Gate is also nearby.

Then and now I can only look at it with admiration. Even though I was not allowed to go inside, I took a photo of it from outside. I looked upon it with great admiration as an institution that controlled the course of the nation. With lots of love. A true patriot.

Indescribable feeling.standing in front of india gate.appearing for central exams. Give a diffrent feeling for upsc building.but once u enter, it s like any other building.
Very very streamlined.but no ac.very limited food options.and limited seating experience.u have to deposit your phones just inside gate. But u can take bag inside.outside exam hall bag storage racks.wallets and valuables allowed inside.

Nice examination centre.no AC but cross ventilation is good. Facilities of safe storege of your mobile and bag is available. For bags rack is available just outside examination hall. Water cooler is also there. Nearby metro station is khan marrket and make sure you exit from gate 1and 4 of metro station.

Been to this place few times, the staffs are quite friendly and warming. The location and cleanliness is outstanding.

This is the best to give examination, only lucky aspirants get the chance to appear in examination here.

UPSC examination hall has its own aura.the halls are big and the compound is clean.

For examinees, make sure you're coming with your own tiffin box as the place outside has a few roadside eateries but their hygiene remains questionable. I've also attached a video of the place just outside the gate you may look for it in the 'photos' option.

Additionally, you need to submit your mobile phones in the yellow envelopes provided by them on which you need to mention your roll numbers and note the serial no.of the envelope on your admit card.
DO NOT PUT YOU MOBILES EVEN IN THE BAG as the bag remains with you upto the entrance of exam hall.

TIP: Try to rush to the mobile collection point as soon as the exam is over or you might have to stand in long queues for max an hour.

This building has its own legacy. All bureaucrats come out of this heritage building. Had a chance to visit this place for ESE interview and the experience was awesome.

The building is on the Shahjahan Road near to India Gate. Nearest metro is Khan metro. The cleanliness level is excellent. The security is good. The staff here is very helpful and punctual. I came here for personality test, everything was done as per the time mentioned and in a very simple and easy manner. The building is nice. There is parking facility near it in upsc lane and also seating facilities are there on museum side. Overall it's the heart of our officers recruitment process.

इसके संस्थापन का आरंभ उन दिनों हुआ जब १९१९ में तत्कालीन अंग्रेजी शासकों ने भारत के लियें स्वायत्त शासन की आवश्यकता स्वीकार की। ५ मार्च १९१९ के भारतीय वैधानिक सुधार विषयक प्रथम प्रेषणापत्र में कहा गया :

अधिकतर राज्यों में, जहाँ स्वायत शासन की स्थापना हो चुकी हैं, इस बात की आवश्यकता अनुभूत की जाती हैं कि सार्वजनिक सेवाओं को राजनीतिक प्रभावों से सुरक्षित रखना चाहिए और उसके हेतु एक ऐसा स्थायी कार्यालय स्थापित किया गया है जो विविध सेवाओं का नियंत्रण करता है। हम लोग इस समय भारत में ऐसे सार्वजनिक सेवा आयोग की स्थापना के लिये उद्यत नहीं हैं, परंतु हम देख रहे हैं कि ये सेवाएँ, क्रम से, अधिकाधिक मंत्रियों के नियंत्रण में आती जाएँगी, जिसके कारण यह उचित है कि इस प्रकार की संस्था का आरंभ किया जाय।

१९१९ के भारतीय शासन विधान में इस भावना की व्यावहारिक अभिव्यक्ति मिलती है। उसमें एक सार्वजनिक सेवा आयोग की स्थापना का विधान था जिसकी सेवाओं के लिये पदाधिकारियों की भर्ती, भारत की सार्वजनिक सेवाओं का नियंत्रण तथा ऐसे अन्य कर्त्तव्य होंगे जिनका निर्देश सपरिषद भारत सचिव करेंगे। परंतु उस आयोग की स्थापना तत्काल नहीं हुई। १९२३ में, लॉर्ड ली के नेतृत्व में, एक रॉयल कमिशन नियुक्त हुआ, जिसको भारत उच्च सेवाओं के ऊपर विचार एवं विवरण प्रस्तुत करना था। उस कमिशन ने, अपने २७ मार्च १९२४ के विवरण में, तत्काल उस लोक सेवा आयोग की स्थापना की आवश्यकता पर विशेष बल दिया, जिसका १९१९ के विधान में संकेत किया गया था। उसका प्रस्ताव था कि उक्त आयोग के निम्नलिखित चार मुख्य कार्य होंगे:

(१) सार्वजनिक सेवाओं के लिये कर्मचारियों की भर्ती। (२) सेवाओं में प्रविष्ट होनेवाले व्यक्तियों की योग्यताओं का विधान तथा उचित मान स्थिर करना, (३) सेवाओं के अधिकारों की सुरक्षा करना तथा नियंत्रण एवं अनुशासन की व्यवस्था करना, जो लगभग न्यायविधान की कोटि का कार्य है। (४) सामान्य रूप से सेवा संबंधी समस्याओं पर परामर्श एवं अनुमति देना।

उस लोकसेवा आयोग की स्थापना १९२६ के अक्टूबर मास में हुई। एक नियमावली बनाई गई जिसमें इस बात का विधान था कि अखिल भारत की प्रथम और द्वितीय श्रेणियों की सेवाओं के, उन प्रतियोगिता परीक्षाओं के पाठ्यक्रमों के निर्धारण जिनके द्वारा कर्मचारियों का निर्वाचन हो, उक्त सेवाओं के लिये पदोन्नति, अनुशासनीय कार्य, वेतन, भत्ते, पेंशन, प्रॉविडेंट फंड एवं पारिवारिक पेंशन विषय आदि मामलों में सरकार उससे परामर्श ले। किसी मिसी वर्ग विशेष या सभी सेवाओं के नियमाधार तथा छुट्टी आदि के नियमों के प्रश्नों पर भी सरकार उक्त आयोग से परामर्श करेगी।

उक्त नियमावली में आयोग के लिये जो नियम निर्दिष्ट किए गए थे उनका सुधार तथा स्थायीकरण उसे श्वेतपत्र के द्वारा हुआ जिसमें वैघानिक सुधारों के लिये ऐसे प्रस्ताव थे जिनके अनुसार प्रत्येक सूबे के लिये भी आयोगों की स्थापना करने का विधान था। उन सभी प्रतियोगिता परीक्षाओं की वयवस्था करना जिनके द्वारा पदाधिकारियों का चुनाव हो, केंद्रीय तथा सूबे के आयोगों का कर्त्तव्य बतलाया गया। सरकार को आयोगों से इसका भी परामर्श करना था कि सेवाओं के लिये, किस प्रकार चुनाव के द्वारा नियुक्ति हो, पदोन्नति कैसे किए जाएँ, एक विभाग से दूसरे विभाग में स्थानांतरण कैसे किए जाएँ, आदि।

उक्त श्वेतपत्र में यह प्रस्ताव भी किया गया था कि सरकार को आयोगों से भिन्न विषयों पर भी परामर्श लेना चाहिए:

(क) अनुशासनीय कार्य, (ख) यदि किसी पदाधिकारी के विरूद्व कोई अभियोग चलाया गया हो तो उसके रक्षाविषयक व्यय की सरकार द्वारा पूर्ति। (ग) समय समय के अधिनियमों के अनुसार उठे हुए अन्य प्रश्न।

१९३५ के भारतीय विधान के परिच्छेद २६६ में, उपर्युक्त प्रस्तावों को स्थायी रूप दिया गया। उसमें लोक सेवा आयोगों के कर्त्तव्यों को स्पष्ट रूप से निर्धारित कर दिया गया। यह कहा जा सकता है कि उक्त विधान के द्वारा ही आयोगों की अंतिम एवं स्थायी रूप में रचना की गई थी। आज के केंद्रीय अथवा राज्यों के आयोग का संगठन, रूप एवं आधार, सब उसी पर अवलंबित हैं।

स्वतंत्रता के बाद, संविधान सभा ने अनुभव किया कि सिविल सेवाओं में निष्पक्ष भर्ती सुनिश्चित करने के साथ ही सेवा हितों की रक्षा के लिए संघीय एवं प्रांतीय, दोनों स्तरों पर लोक सेवा आयोगों को एक सुदृढ़ और स्वायत्त स्थिति प्रदान करने की आवश्यकता महसूस की गई।

An eye-pleasing ambience with tight security and round-the-clock surveillance. Only candidates, if called for exams or interviews are alone permitted inside the gate. Others need to wait in the hall attached to the 'Reception Counter'. Dry-fruits, multi-fruits chat, sweet and salted lassi allure food and beverage freaks. Once you taste these, you become an addict!
