I think this is a great place which describes the heritage of the royal family of Kutch and describes their lavish (and grand) lifestyle. With mirrors all around, it is a great sight. But what I would suggest is that this place should be renovated as it needs it badly. From what I can make out is that the restoration has already begun. And hopefully within an year, the work will be done. Making it a place which will be etched in your memories. As of now, you can still visit the place!

Really very beautiful place to visit! One suggestion is there: closing time should be little long. So that people who came from out of the city or so far, they can visit properly! At least 7!

Its a good historic place to visit. Entry fee Rs. 50 per person and photography fee Rs. 100 per mobile/camera. Aaina mahal is very nice covered with lots of mirrors on the wall in the king's bedroom. So many ancient articles of the king are preserved very well. People making documentary can have great satisfaction here. Climate is very good. Must visit.

Visiting the Maharaja of Kuchh's place was a captivating journey into history. The collection of antique items and old coins was awe-inspiring, offering a glimpse into the past. The modest ticket price of 30rs made it an affordable and enriching experience. A must-visit for history enthusiasts and collectors.

One of the well renowned and the most beautiful palace one will see. Currently it is at a dilapidated stage due to the earthquake since then it couldn't recover to its glory. Inside there are many artifact well preserved. One will never get bored in this place. It has mirror work on walls and in every corner of the palace be it just a small area. The mirror works are not visible now anymore but it has left an imprint so that we know that it must have been beautiful during its prime time.

The Aina Mahal is an 18th-century palace that is located next to the Prag Mahal in Darbargadh, Bhuj, Gujarat, India.   The Aaina Mahal palace, or 'Hall of Mirrors' was built during the flamboyant rule of Lakhpatji in the middle of the 18th century. The responsibility of engineering, architecture and embellishment was entitled to Ram Singh Malam - a genius of an artist who took his training in Europe for 17 years but came back to India seeking name and fame. He was asked by the king to create this palace of dreams for him, and thus the Aina Mahal came into existence.

They say mirrors don’t lie, but do they tell the whole truth? Can they see the inside, do they reflect the reality of times past?

Aaina (meaning mirror) Mahal is one of the many Palaces which truly reflects the glory of the past. It is being painstakingly preserved which was evident from the rules before entering the interiors of the Palace. Once you are inside the Palace, you will literally feel like you have entered another time/another era. All those glorious days of the Maharajah's and Maharani's, and the courtiers kind of comes alive in your mind. The sheer plethora of things (now antiques) is mind-boggling. The guides there are extremely knowledgeable and provide a wonderful insight of all that has happened in that Palace. Take a look at the photographs which will give you an idea of what to expect when you are there. A historical journey that you cannot miss if you are in Bhuj!

The Aina Mahal (lit.  Palace of Mirrors or Hall of Mirrors) is an 18th-century palace located next to the Prag Mahal in Darbargadh, Bhuj, Gujarat, India. The palace was built by Rao Lakhpatji of Cutch State around 1750. It was designed and decorated by Ram Singh Malam, who had implemented his expertise in European crafts and thus was built in the Indo-European style and decorated with glasses, mirrors and China tiles. It is now converted into a museum storing "europeanerie" collection including clocks, wares, mechanical toys, paintings and pictures.

The Aina Mahal was built by Rao Lakhpatji around 1750. The chief architect and designer of the palace was Ram Singh Malam, who lived in Europe for 18 years and mastered several European craft and architecture skills. The construction costed 80 lakh (8 million) koris.

An Englishwoman Mrs. Postnas visited the palace in 1830 and noted her impressions in her memoir Cutch (1839). She remarked on the "motley and incongruous mélange of ornament" in a room illuminated with large candles in a noon where she found half a dozen musical clocks playing at once among jelly glasses and old vases.

The palace was converted into a museum in 1977.

The palace was damaged in the 2001 Gujarat earthquake. A part of the palace has been restored and now houses the Aina Mahal Trust Museum.

The collection in the palace museum is an early example of "europeanerie", an 18th century obsession of European things among the Indian nobles. The palace houses a royal bedchamber of Maharao Lakhpatji. The floor and walls of it are covered in Kutchi silk embroidery fabrics while its ceilings, pillars and doors are covered in mirror-work and guilt wood-carvings. It still has Maharao's bed with golden legs, his sword and buckler. The bed is surrounded by more than twenty seven large mirrors inlaid with gold flowers and semiprecious stones and framed in Baroque style guilt frames.

The other collection include English, French and Dutch chiming clocks; glass wares; china wares; mechanical toys; celestial globes; arms; palanquin; glass paintings with Chinese influences; old pictures and paintings. The inner chamber is surrounded by a corridors. The walls of the corridor have several Indian and few European paintings which includes 18th-century engravings of A Rake's Progress by William Hogarth, portraits of royals such as Catherine the Great as well as paintings depicting the courts and portraits of Maharao and his successors including some with Mughal influences. There is a 15 metre long scroll painting the Maharao riding a decorated elephant and his procession including a flag bearer, drummers and infantry. Occasionally real gems are introduced on the surface of painting where ornaments such as ear-rings and necklaces are depicted. There is a pendulum clock synchronized with Hindu calendar. The collection also include Mahi Maratib, a golden fish, which formed part of coat of arms of Cutch State which was gifted to Maharao Lakhpatji by Mughal Emperor during his visit of Delhi.

The pleasure hall is situated on the second floor. The marble walls of the palace are decorated with mirrors which are separated by gilts. The hall was illuminated by hanging candelabra with shade of Venetian glass. Except the narrow pathway along the walls, the hall is a pleasure pool with a raised square platform in the middle which can be approached by a narrow raised walkway. The pool is lined with China tiles. The pool was filled with water by cleverly designed siphons and pumps. There are fountains in the pool which can cast spray in patterns and cool the air in the hot summers of Kutch. It is a place where Maharao held his courts and enjoyed his pleasures. The doors of the palace are decorated with inlaid ivory and gold made at the cost of 400 koris by a carpenter named Madho in 1708 during the reign of Pragmalji I.
