It's so fascinating to see the remains of a 4500 year old civilization. It's a must visit for enthusiasts and for those who are fond of history.

I must say, It's very regrettable that being the descendents of such a great civilization we are equipped with so little comparatively in terms of knowledge, wisdom and human values. This land once had brilliantly flourished civilizations!

Good to visit. Connectivity is very low for public transport. Musium is closed for now. But still you can visit archeological site.

I am a big-big fan of history and historical sites. I make sure to read about them and gather information before going to one so that the experience can be fulfilling. This habit of mine came in real handy while visiting Lothal because literally they have put no informative boards on the site. With the bare minimum guidance and no clues whatsoever for what you are looking at, you might not be able to appreciate the beauty of the site. It is an amazing find with the remains from one of the oldest civilizations known to mankind and it was very satisfying to see those finds. The government should make efforts to restore the place properly and the museum too. Couldn't visit it because it has been closed as there has been zero maintenance. Nonetheless, if you are a history enthusiast like me, do pay the site a visit. It's worth all the pain. Figure out the commutation before hand as it is quite isolated.

Went there to see an ancient historic place of old civilization.the sight was open to see with few placards but no guides to explain in detail. Also the museum was closed due to renovation work.
Please carry water and some snacks As there is nothing available on site. Washroom facility available. A cap/hat/umbrella must.
The open site needs to be covered as visitors can walk on it n cause damage

We can found here 5K years ago civilisation structure like Mohenjo - Harappa city, very unique structure with basic amenities, also ship dockyard of that time, this place just 2 hrs far away from Ahmedabad city located at Gujrat state of India, visit for civilization history knowledge.

No proper signs to reach this place, Musuem was shut down, and may not open next year or two also, no notifications from govt provided easily, no good guides to explain stuffs, place is calm and magical though
Enquire before u reach there.
Museum is closed due to renovation.
Better to visit with kids after ongoing work is completed.
Museum is closed and the site in itself doesn't have much info to understand the significance of the remains. A good place to know about mankind history but needs more tourist friendly info to enjoy the place. The roads are good.

World's Oldest Dockyard.
Harappan Port Town.
@ASI, @govt. Of Gujrat & Govt. Of india should focus to develop this important heritage site.

*** Museam is closed (highly dissapointed since official website didn't mention about museam closing)

This place is one of the southernmost cities of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization having Archaeological remains of a Harappa Port-Town. It is approx 85 kms from Ahmedabad and route is quite easy. You have to take SG highway then NH 47 for around 20 kms and then taking left onto SH for around 25 kms. Road is overall ok with just a few bad patches. Parking is not an issue as such this place is not much crowded. There is a museum just adjacent to the site but at present it is closed due to maintenance work. Must visit for history lovers.

LOTHAL IS AN ANCIENT PORT TOWN OF HARAPPAN CIVILIZATION. THE SITE HAVING REMAINS OF A SMALL TOWN CONSTRUCTED APPROX 2000BC. IT WAS CONSTRUCTED WITH CLAY BRICKS. THE SITE IS MAITAINED BY ARCHIOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA. BUT PRESENTLY MAJOR PORTION OF THE REMAINS ARE REPLACED WITH CONCRETE BRICKS AS THE VISITORS ARE PRONE TO CLIMB ON THE STRUCTURE FOR PHOTOGRAPHY. THERE IS A MUSEUM AVAILABLE HERE WHICH EXIBITS THE ITEMS FOUND DURING THE EXCLAVATION. IT IS REMOTE VILLAGE AND BARE MINIMUM AMINITIES ARE AVAILABLE. PLEASE CARRY SNACKS AND WATER. SUGGESTED FOR STUDNTS TO HAVE BETTER COMPREHENSION ABOUT THE ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS.
This site is separate from the museum and its open from morning to evening every day and it's timings are not related to the museum next door.

The site is not very big and it'll take an hour or so to cover all the points. The biggest attraction is the ancient ship dock and the acropolis. It's a peaceful place and it's not very difficult to walk. It's almost impossible to get a guide because it is not visited by lot of people. The museum is closed because of the upcoming National Maritime Museum project and no one knows when it will open. Make sure to carry enough water and food because there are no shops around. There's enough parking space and there are good toilets as well.

This place is odd to reach. Museum is under renovation. No water, no shelter. Don't visit in hot and humid season. Visit only if you like to see some stones laid by our ancestors.

Worst experience. The museum was closed and lack of maintenance. Government is just neglecting such heritage places. No guide and even security personnel is not in the favour of government officials.
Not maintained at all.museum is closed since long. Site is totally destroyed. Lothal.so famous name but nothing exciting is there. Archeological department should be questioned for this horrible ignorance.
This ancient historic site is not maintained well by the government. The musuem was closed (reason given was that it was 'damaged'). Really need to do better.
Unfortunately most of the remains got damaged vanished due to flash fluds some years back. Area is now protected with compound wall. Plantation done. More research needed to be done here. Details mentioned on boards here has very less information. For one and half year the Musium here is closed due to renovation. Most of the visitors coming from far places coming here with their families, particularly children are going back sadly.

Authorities need to focus on reconstruction of ruins and reopen Musium most urgently.
A lovely place if you are into history and a learn about the ancient civilizations. It's amazing that this far inland there used to be a port. Museum was closed during our visit due to renovations. So can't speak much on that.

Though, some of area needs to be constructed more. Recently Government has announced some 500cr budget to built a High level museum there with lots of more stuffs.
It's great feeling to visit the Archaeological site that was a part of ancient trade site for country. Also shameful no guide to show around and no enthusiasm among locals to explore and share about the same!
There is no maintenance. Museum is closed and except for one security guard no one from department was available. No proper indicators or information board for this important site.
ASI protected Archaeological Site of Lothal is starving for survival. 5000 years old civilization which is our built heritage is not even properly labeled and captioned. Most of the part have been reconstructed and no site maps or premises plan available on site. Museum is under construction because of its dilapidated condition. I don't find one reason to believe that the government is sincerely showing any symptoms of preserving our roots there.
The site is well maintained and gives lots of knowledge about Harappan culture and civilization, but the museum is not open due to maintanance. Hope will be open in nearest future.
Road to reach not too good. And Friday closed sign board not placed at highway. No food and canteen facilities available.
Currently the here museum is closed as it is renovated and take 1 and half year to build. In Lothal the old construction is fall down somehow. So there is no any view to see. I just find brick and stones nothing else.
Must visit place. The site of the ancient city contains the ruins of a Bronze Age fortified city, which was part of the Indus Valley Civilisation centred in Sindh and the Punjab, and then the Cemetery H culture. The city is believed to have had as many as 23,500 residents and occupied about 150 hectares (370 acres) with clay brick houses at its greatest extent during the Mature Harappan phase (2600 BC – 1900 BC), which is considered large for its time. Per archaeological convention of naming a previously unknown civilisation by its first excavated site, the Indus Valley Civilisation is also called the Harappan Civilisation.

The ancient city of Harappa was heavily damaged under British rule, when bricks from the ruins were used as track ballast in the construction of the Lahore–Multan Railway. In 2005, a controversial amusement park scheme at the site was abandoned when builders unearthed many archaeological artifacts during the early stages of building work.

Magnificent experience!
Less tourist crowd (due to COVID and complicated route). Unfortunately the museum is closed till (probably) March 2022. The site is open for tourist, without any entry fees.

Lothal is one of the southernmost cities of the ancient Indus Valley civilization, located in the bhal region of the Gujarat state of Indian side. It was first inhabitated around 3500 BC. It is famous for its unique structure and for the port town marked by urban planning. It has a very unique dock yard where ships were ported and connecting canals were used heavily for the transportation. Here at the site, a musimun along with the ruins of the haddapan civilization can be seen. There is not much to see here but the live show gives enough information of the place. This place is situated in a very remote location and connectivity is very very poor. You have to take your own vehicle to go there. Also there is no shop here from where you can buy something to eat. Only one shop is there from where you can buy stone jwellery. Carry your own food and water. You can seat under the trees for relaxing. It's a good place for people with interest in history and the civilization.

A great place to visit with your family.
.
The site is located in the middle of nowhere but it's worth visiting.
Reaching there might be and problem since the public transportation it's not well developed in the site but one can easily get local transport like Autos to reach there from the nearby City. Otherwise if you have a personal car it's great.
.
The site is free of cost, only 5 rupees is required for getting inside the museum.
.
The only thing everyone should understand that the site is very fragile and one need to take care of its surrounding.
