One of the best place to visit in weekend. Also the place is rich in history and culture. Best place for history lover. I visited this place 2 years ago but it's still in my core memory. 10/10
Located in Vadodara, Gujarat. Laxmi Vilas palace is private property & belongs to Royal Gayakwad family who ruled over Vadodara princely state. Very limited part of palace is open for public. However entry ticket is too high. If you visit Vadodara, I recommend you to visit other tourist spots first then give priority to it.
Marked by its phenomenally rich heritage, this palace is a gem waiting to be explored. The moment you get to the ticket counter, you will be helped with a mp3 player and earphones (audio available in 4-5 language option) which becomes your personal guide as you take the tour along this Mammoth palace. The experience of this palace like none other, untouched quaint architecture, huge corridors and palatial vibes take your breath away.
The armoury room has a plethora of collections dating back a couple of centuries. The cafe within the vicinity is a lovely place to unwind while you're immersed in the royal vibes of the palace. Getting to the palace is easy, you'd easily find auto rickshaws that would take you to the palace.
Do not miss spending some time at the majestic courtroom, the grandeur of the handcrafted carpers, and royal chandeliers are sure going to take you back to the days of the maharaja's rule.
Historical places of Vadodara, must visit if you are visiting Vadodara. You will get guide in recorded audio form with mp3 player. They guide deep history of all the sections, it has a small food court inside at the end. If you are interested in history and culture then visit here you'll definitely like this place.
The experience of this place has been designed very well.though the palace is decent & has very little to offer, the audio tour & explanation of each artefact is done wonderfully and it makes the overall experience amazing. One gets access to ground floor only as the royalty lives in 1st floor. Most of the art collection is in the museum, I'd rate that higher than this - head to gate 4 for the Fateh Sign museum for which a combo pass can be bought at the palace.
Pro tip: go on a weekday morning at 9: 30am and you'll get some quite time. Palace takes about 1hr and museum another 1hr. Plan accordingly.
Lakshmi Vilas Palace was built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1890 at the cost of £180,000.
The entry is from gate # 2 and there is ample parking space for cars and two wheelers.
Ticket cost is ₹250/- pp and had audio guide included that can be borrowed from visitors area inside the palace from where the tour starts.
The audio guide is Sony MP3 player with 11 tracks for 11 points to be covered. You can pause/resume and choose any track (point) of your choice. The guard at the main entrace explained me the same. I wish those giving the audio guide should have explained that or may be I should have asked them!
A part of palace is still being used as a residence by the royal family and visitors are allowed to visit only the public area.
There is a small cafe and souvenir shop too inside the palace.
Photography is not allowed inside the palace.
The audio guide is little slow. If you follow it, it will take about an hour but without it, the entire palace (public area) can be easily covered in 30 mins.
Most famous place of VADODARA, place is good, clean and well maintained, visiting charges are reasonable and also surrounding is very peaceful and well connect with nature
Best attraction in Vadodara. Here a Sony Walkman is your guide. They provide Sony Walkman and headsets we can roam in the palace listening to the guiding voice from the Walkman. Informative yet entertaining. Canteen facility is available at palace. Don't miss this is you are on Vadodara.
Ticket is Little costly, however, the Audio guide facility is really good and informative. There are 11 locations and at a comfortably slow pace all narration can be covered in 1.5 Hrs.time with pause, play and forward, reverse. Understand the instructions and only follow that to get maximum from your visit. Instructions are available in Marathi, Hindi and English.
Cafeteria is good too. We had Coffee (50) and Samosa (20)
Not worth as per the charges they are charging. Only ground floor is open to visit.which is ok.they should also allow at first floor part which is vacant.
Amazing palace. It was so beautiful that I ended up spending 4 hours inside the palace. It is very well maintained. The audio guide provided is also helpful. It has a small cafeteria inside the palace which is very beautiful.
Very beautiful building located in the heart of vadodara city. But the ticket rates are bit expensive. It costs Rs 250 per adult. Photography or videography is strictly prohibited inside the palace. But you can take pictures from outside. Here audio guides are given to explain the history of this magnificent building. You have to spend at least two hours to appreciate the beauty of this palace.
Magnificent palace. Every single thing in this palace exude beauty. From the tiles to the roof every has been created with great care.
Ticket cost - Rs 250 (Indian tourist) Timing - 10 AM to 5 PM Closed on Monday and on national holidays
Audio guide is provided in various indian languages including English. Audio Tour consists of 11 points of the palace. And its very nicely explained.
Palace is located in the heart of green surroundings. Royals reside in the palace so only small part of the palace is open to the public. Which leaves tourists wanting for more.
See the Dazzling colors used on the ceiling which gave a royal look.it still look mesmerizing and amazingly beautiful. Each a every thing Glasses, wall, columns, ornaments, Idols, Paintings, Weapon collection, Modern Technology (lift in 80's). All are Well designed and must visit place to go Laxmi Villas Palace.
Lukshmi Villas Palace is one of the most elegant palace of India built by Gaikwad dynasty who ruled princely state of Vadodara from 18th century till it merged in India in 1947. Palace architecture is very interesting and unique in away as it is built by hindu emperors. Palace exteriors are well maintained and there is a beautiful and large golf course behind the Palace. Entry fees is Rs. 250 which seems to be on very higher side when compared with the value it offers. Photography is not allowed inside the palace area but outside of the palce also offers good spots for photography. Palace staff is not very courteous and warm with the visitors and they behave as if they are just there to do their job. In the entry office, you will be given a handheld audio player with headphones that will guide you through your tour inside the palace. I personally found this very inaffecttive way of guided tour as you can never match your tour with the audio script. You will have to constantly catch up with the audio guide and walk accordingly which is very inconvenient and painful. Most of the tourists will remove the headphones and visit the palace on their own. Palace staff should accompany the visitors and explain them about the rich history. Armory room is small and displays good amount of weapons but again, no one cares to explain you anything. Main Darbar hall is very beautiful to see but you can't take photos. From start to end, there are 11 points to complete the tour of the palace. Despite beautiful palace and rich history, palace staff makes your visit very boring and monotonous, also despite paying very high entry fees, you will constantly feel restricted during your tour. I would urge palace authority to train the staff on sof skills so that they can demonstrate the glory of Maratha dynasty with pride and warmth at the same time.
One of the best Place if you visit Vadodara. Though the ticket is little bit expensive but if you are interested in architecture and history. Then this place is only for you. It'll tell you about Gaikwad rulers of Baroda. Current king also reside here but the area where he reside is not for tourist. And nearby the beautiful golf course and it's field is impressive landscape and nearby there is museum. If you visit Vadodara you must give this place a chance.
Palace seems good, but visitors are allowed for around just 10% of the palace as royal family still stays there on 1st floor. I felt v costly for the ticket price. Udaipur, jodhpur forts are much open for visitors.
It was an amazing experience in palace. Pan photo kadun det nahi khup ghai kartat. Ani first floor baghayla dila nahi. There is no facility of drinking water. Pan maza aali.
Lukshmi Villas Palace is one good place in Vadodara to visit once.nicely maintained and beautiful. The nature around the palace and efforts given to maintain it along with natural habitats and golf course is really mesmerising.
The way all the artifacts are kept and tells the story of its greatness it really attracts people.
Entry tickets are nominal but only one issue, no facilities for old age people who have difficulty in walking have to face little uncomfortable here while visiting as there isn't any service of wheel chair.
Really Very nice place to visit. They are providing Mp3 player for tour guide, that was best part, it's very different concept.price is arround 250 per head but it's worth to visit once in Vadodara
Laxmi villas palace made by ruler of vadodra it show you how much in depth architecture india have. I request gujrat government to maintain this at is it as these are one of the finest architecture work.
These show the legacy of the Indian ruler and one of the power of Marathas
Laxmi Vilas Palace is one of the most majestic structures in India and was the private residence of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III. Known to be the largest private dwelling of the size equivalent to four times of the Buckingham Palace, this magnificent palace is a must-visit when in Vadodara.
The striking Laxmi Vilas Palace was constructed in 1890 and took nearly twelve years to complete. Sprawling across an area of about 700 acres, it is still home to the royal family of Vadodara, the Gaekwads. It is built in the Indo-Saracenic style which is a hybrid of the Hindu, Gothic and Mughal architectural forms with the presence of domes, minarets and arches.
The Laxmi Vilas Palace incorporates several other buildings within its complex including the LVP Banquets and Conventions, Moti Baug Palace and the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum building. The museum building was mainly constructed as a school for the Maharaja's children. Today, it houses an extraordinary collection of paintings by Raja Ravi Verma and various other artefacts gathered from all around the world. An excellent audio tour with free drink and snack are included in the ticket price.
LVP in baroda, constructed by Gaikwad family. Robert Chisholm was architect of this beautiful palace. Palace is just beautiful masterpiece of art and culture. But entry fees is very high it's around 250 Rs per person. Then they give you some audio with earphone to know the whole history of that palace explaining in detail one by one. But one most sad thing is that photography is didn't allowed inside the palace. But outside the palace you can do photography.
Worth a one time visit. The visting charges are 250 for adults for palace viewing.
While the price is a bit on the higher side given most part of the palace is closed to visitors and the complete tour cab be finished in an hour or so given you are listening to the audio tapes as well.
In terms of Covid preparedness there are temperature checks and sanitization on the gate and you are requested to adhere to mask guidelines. Given how much is written about the palace online, I would have certainly wanted to see a lot more. Notheless, a knowledgeable visit.

TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY. All reviews are fake, don't go by reviews. I visited this place with family in Feb 2021,250 per person, 1000Rs for 4 members. All the other audience visited along with me were like they all got fooled with the reviews. This place can be seen in 20 minutes max, should the price be 10-30 Rs, then its ok, not worth more than it.
Palace is great. Armoury is greatest. Different types of swords and other weapons are displayed very nicely. I literally amused by Darbar hall. What a beauty of that art on floors, on roof. Really royal. Athority is very rude but that's not bother to me cause ghanta kya farak padta hai.
The Lakshmi Vilas Palace in Vadodara, Gujarat, India, was constructed by the Gaekwad family, a prominent Maratha family, who ruled the Baroda State. Major Charles Mant was credited to be the main architect of the palace. It is reputed to have been the largest private dwelling built until that time, and four times the size of Buckingham Palace. At the time of construction, it boasted the most modern amenities such as elevators and the interior is reminiscent of a large European country house. It remains the residence of the royal family, who continue to be held in high esteem by the residents of Baroda.
It was an amazing experience to visit this palace. Entry ticket price 250/- including Audio guide. They will provide a audio gudie by which you can explore the palace more easily. It will take around 2hr to complete the tour. Its a must visit palace.
Very Beautiful. The Lakshmi Vilas Palace in Vadodara, Gujarat, India, was constructed by the Gaekwad family, a prominent Maratha family, who ruled the Baroda State. Major Charles Mant was credited to be the main architect of the palace. Lakshmi Vilas Palace was styled on the Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture, built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1890 at a cost of £180,000 (₹27,00,000).
Great place for photography enthusiasts like me. Loved how they have maintained everything for public display. One of the must visit places in Vadodara for a reason.
Such a beautiful and peaceful place. The architecture is marvelous. You go back 100 years old in the ancient era and live that time. The artifacts are great. Must visit when in Vadodara.
Before the #pandemic, the regal Lukshmi Vilas Palace in #Vadodara would pack in over 600 visitors each day. With both its history and architecture boasting of a rich confluence of culture, the palace offers a peek back into #Gujarat's royal past.
If you are in baroda this is one palace you dont want to miss. Great architechture and wonderfully explained through the audio by the maharaj himself. You can spend a good couple of hours inside the royal palace. There is a goft course outside. Imprssed with the italian architechure
Amazing place to see baroda kings palace and history.no photography allowed inside the palace but outside breathtaking places.felt like they not opened the palace completely for outsiders.durbar hall weapons room were marvelous.must visit if you are in baroda
Historical. Good place to visit in vadodara.lots of historic knowledge, traditional knowledge, antiques etc.are there.audio guide is also available.well maintained palace.and clean campus.over all a great experience.but tickets are too costly.
I just love my favourite king Maharaja Sayajirao Gayekwad lll and his kingdom where Art and Artists was very keen and prime importance and Artists has flourish their Arts.
There is nothing to visit for this Palace. More than 90 percent of property is restricted. I wonder why they have opened it for public when they do not allow to see any thing. Just couple of rooms and a a central Hall to visit. It is over priced to visit.
Must see when you are in Vadodara. A royal legacy of Gayakwad family. Very well maintained and organized. Ticket prices are bit on higher side but it is a treat for eyes to watch the historical monuments including a full fledged armoury in their original state.
Great big palace that you can admire from the outside. Ticket prices are steep (around INR 300) for which you get a audio guide (a USB mp3 player that you listen to while roaming around 11 key points in the building) Choice of language is Hindi, English, Gujarati and Marathi. Don't bother listening if you aren't interested in the history as it will take an entire hour to finish the whole thing. Take a quick look around the, view the various paintings. Armory is the best part. Cafe inside the palace is nothing special. Avoid eating if possible (bland food) or just have a cup of tea.
One of the most beautiful palaces i have ever visited. Amazing place to visit in entire Vadodara. They give us ipods as a guide to listen to while exploring the palace.
Great historical place. Must visit, The entry fees of the lakshmi vilas palace is 225 INR per person entrance fee for Indians, 400 INR per person entrance fee for foreigners.
It's a good palace to visit as also mentioned on various travel guide apps. The audio guide will help you understand the history behind the Gaekwad empire. Make enough time to visit here as the tour of the palace will take over 2.5 hours. If you want to visit museum as well, keep the buffer time
Best place place, actually only place tu visit in Baroda.brilliant to see structure a d everything. Entry fee is not worth for what they are allowing us to see
A beautiful tourist place to visit. The best part about the palace is that the king and queen still reside there on the 1st floor. The structure of palace is such that of you see from a distance you can see that it has a structure of temple, mosque and church. Another good thing is that you don't need a guide over there. They provide you with the earphones with the recording which guides you throughout the palace telling the history and small details about many thimgs. The palace is well preserved. They don't allow you to take pictures inside the palace.
Nice architecture.audio guide they provide is a new experience to people in India. India has a glorious history and this place is a reflection of the same.
The Lukshmi Vilas Palace is bound to take your breath away, right from the moment you enter its premises. The tour of the palace is best enjoyed with audio support (which can be voluntarily asked while purchasing the ticket).
Although the palace has 3 floors, the tour would only take you around the ground floor, while the other 2 floors are kept out of bounds (as the royal family resides there).
Do's:
1) Carry a water bottle. The palace tour takes about an hour and a half to be completed and the only source for clean-drinkable water is at the end of the tour (if you don't carry a water bottle)
2) Carry a camera. Photography is restricted in the corridors and rooms of the palace. However, it's allowed in the peripheries, which again is quite beautiful a place to get yourself clicked at.
3) Get the audio assisted tour. The audio assisted tour is available in 4 languages: Hindi, English, Gujarati & Marathi. The audio has been wonderfully created and provided you every bit of information regarding the place you're visiting.
Nice palace and beautiful Vilas and very nice photography side but photography not allowed in Vilas, must visit near to vadodara and per person to 250/-
One of the fancy palace in our imperial ages which showcased how uneven the wealth had been distributed. Armoury was nice as we get to see lots of insites into our ancient weapons and legacy of Rajput era
Not too much to see when u compare it with City palace Udaipur. However good for folks who haven't visited any palace yet. This can give u a taste of ancient architecture and royal life of our kings.
A must visit if you are in Vadodara. The built style and architecture is amazing to view. A part of the palace is open for public. You will get a audio device which describes the history od all the areas of the place. No photography with profeasional camera is allowd inside palace building but, phone came is ok in the outside premises. Out side the place there is a well maintained golf course which can be the best bg for your mobile cam fotos. There is a small nice cafe in the entry/exit which serves coffe tea and some snaks.
Still this palace is well maintained, the guidance in this palace is extremely wonderful. IPod in different languages used to give information to the tourists.
Very nice tennis courts, very well maintained. This is a very big Royal place. It's also a known place for tennis lovers and golf lovers. Tennis courts are very good. Golf course is also very nice. Recreation house for golfers is truly world class. The place is far from the main city.
I didn't feel anything special with this palace. If someone have already visited palaces in Delhi, Agra, Rajasthan, Mysoor, etc this is typically a waste off time. The ticket charge for entry is 225/person and this is the highest paid entry ticket in India I have ever made for a palace For this they are providing an audio guide player, which is available at its office. If you follow that guide, it will take around 4 hours to see the palace. It's that much lagging. You have to return the player while coming back. Only few area I accessible inside the palace. An armory museum is there inside. A place shoppe and a coffee shop is also there inside, and both are costlier. The paitings inside the palace are good. So overall it's a waste of time. But those who are interested to see the different living style of kings in india, may be features. But I don't find anything special here compare to other palace. For some who is first time visiting a palace, it may worth
A wonderful wonderful place. If you are in Vadodara (Baroda) you have to go there. Inside of the palace is very well maintained, along with all the crafts. At the entrance the official s will provide an earphone pair and a iPod type device. The guidance through the provided audio device is nicely composed, and very helpful in understanding the importance and detailed history of almost every thing in the palace. Only sad part is, you are not allowed to take any pictures inside the palace and DSLR is completely forbidden. I really had a wonderful time there
A Royal family that built a palace using commination of traditional and modern amenities is a marvel and treat to watch for. Situated at Vadodra city it is said to have been built by Maharaja Gaekwad of Maratha family in late 19 th century. Inside of palace is superbly constructed and decorated with beautiful paintings, arms, monuments, beautiful designs of glass and lots of valuables used by royal dynasty. They provide audio guide equipment for better understanding of palace. A cafe is also there inside palace for refreshment. Photography inside palace is prohibited so you have to visit to get the taste of its beauty but it will not surely disappoint you
