It was a wonderful experience. 3-4 hours well spent. Huge collections and the audio assisted tour is very well written and conducted to explain the story behind every exhibit.
It was a wonderful experience. This place has a good collection of paintings, ancient sculptures, old manuscripts and artefacts. The best part is that you can opt for audio assistance for which there is an additional charge although it is optional. It is just 1 km away from the main entrance gate of Laxmi Vilas Palace. Definitely recommended….
Best museum very historical you will found Gujarati Marathi Rajasthani Japanese Chinese Greeks Spanish arts there different types of painting artifacts vessels statues and many more u must visit this place once
Outside in the lawn of Maharaj's fahtehsingh museum, lies THE FLYING SCOTSMAN.the museum is with exquisite RAJA RAVI VERMA art. Good place to visit with family with combo tickets for the palace n museum.
The museum is great, would recommend to get tickets for both as combo the palace and museum it will be helpful and cheaper. The place is amazing and nice to visit with information about the city and the leaders of the city
This museum contains various art pieces from different countries. If you are an art enthusiast do visit there are many beautiful paintings and other things.
Just a heads-up, they make you submit your phone before entering the museum.
Good but need some more antiques to showcase.it was more like art gallery, few war weapons were also there. A brief history along with would bring it a little more alive.
The place visually is very attractive and gives a sense of royalty. There is a guide who explains you the detail and the backstory of all the paintings and statues. There are some specialities in some of the statues, like some are made of only one rock. Then there is furniture of China, and the paintings made by Raja Ravi Varma which look so real, some paintings that are double sided and some made by the English people. And then at least there were these detailed accessories of their time some of China, Japan and the Marathas like utensils, clothes and caps and pagdis. A must visit place overall
If you are an art aficionado, you must include the Maharaja Fatehsingh Museum in your Vadodara itinerary. Located within the premises of the Lakshmi Vilas Palace, the museum is housed in a building that once served as the home-school for the Maharaja’s children. Today, you can find a treasure trove of art collections within the walls of this building. Major works of art by famous painters from Europe and India are displayed here, including a special collection of paintings of Raja Ravi Varma. The museum also has an impressive collection of flawless sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses in bronze and marble.
The striking Laxmi Vilas Palace was constructed in 1890 and it has stuctural look of all four religion like Temple, Church, Gurudwara, Mosque and it took nearly twelve years to complete it. Sprawling across an area of about 700 acres, it has now golf course which is paid and can be used to play.
Maharaja fateh singh museum was building constructed as a school for the Maharaja's children. Today a large number of works of art belonging to the Maratha Royal family are displayed in the museum. There is a collection of sculptures in marble and bronze. The museum has an oriental gallery which houses Japanese and Chinese sculptures and other works collected by the Maharaja on his visits to these countries.
A fairytale palace which can make you daydream about the days this place was occupied with probably thousands of servants, courtiers and royalty in splendid cloths and jewels and making use of elephants as means of transport.
Artifacts and paintings are good. But u will enjoy only if u are an art lover else very boring. The audio is too slow with unnecessarily sad music in it.
It's a painting gallery museum where Raja Ravi Verma's painting u will get to see. There r paintings and artifacts of some other artists from overseas too. DON'T DO MISTAKE OF TAKING AUDIOGUIDE. It's a 90min tape n gets boring if u r not into paintings and everything in exxxxtra details. U can finish looking around in 30 to 45min max. People in museum explain u bit about some important paintings and artifacts and I found that's enough. Overall good place to visit along with d palace
The building was constructed as a school for the Maharaja's children. Today a large number of works of art belonging to the Maratha Royal family are displayed in the museum. The museum contains works of art collected by Maharaja Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad III during his numerous trips out of India. The major works of art in this museum are the paintings by European and Indian artists including a collection of the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, who was specially commissioned by the then Maharaja of Baroda. The collection includes portraits of the Royal family in addition to the paintings based on Hindu mythology for which Raja Ravi Varma was famous. There is a collection of sculptures in marble and bronze.
The artifacts and the architecture is just another piece of artwork. The construction of this place is very vast.
Photography inside the museum isn’t allowed and the only bad thing as compared to other city palaces and all other architectural monuments is that they don’t give out student discounts.
And as well, this place on the surrounding is known as the Laxmi Vila’s palace and also the movie GRAND MASTI was shot here.
There are different food places around the palace but outside the premises.
Only negative point is they’re charging way too much for the visit.
Great place for students.good collection of king.i like some paiting which was awesome.like a 3d painting.
The Maharaja Fatehsingh Museum in the Laxmi Vilas Palace compound has been awarded the Best Museum prize by the tourism department of Gujarat. The award was announced by the department some days ago and the museum was given a trophy and a certificate. Established in 1961, the museum is home to some of the exquisite sculptures and paintings.
Both LAKSHMI VILAS palace & Fatehsingh Museum at Vadodara still owned & Controlled by Vadodara Royalty. Great Originals of Raja Ravi Varma & his Brother Raja Raja Varma displayed.
Peep into the life of erstwhile rulers during your visit to the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum. The museum is located in the compound of Laxmi Vilas Palace, which was once the official residence of the Gaekwad family of Gujarat. The Museum is also known for exhibiting works by artists like Raphael, Titian, Murillo and Rembrandt. Another interesting section houses Chinese and Japanese porcelain artefacts, while two rooms on the ground floor are treasure troves of the Roccoco period in art. The Museum has recently inaugurated a headgear gallery where vibrant headgear's from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra collected by Maharaja Ranjitsinh Gaekwad are displayed.
They have an amazing collection of Raja Ravi Verma painting in case you are a fan. They also have an exhibition of the numerous types of turbans that are worn in India. Cameras need to be deposited at the entrance. You could buy a ticket with the palace visit to same some money.

There is a collection of sculptures in marble and bronze. These include copies of great masters in bronze commissioned by the Maharaja and also originals by renowned artists. One of the artists commissioned by the Maharaja was an Italian artist Fellicci whose works adorn not only the Museum but also the Lakshmi Vilas Palace. Some of Fellici's works can be seen on the Public Park (Sayaji Garden also known as Kamati Baug by the locals).
The museum has an oriental gallery which houses Japanese and Chinese sculptures and other works collected by the Maharaja on his visits to these countries.
Though palace is small compared to Udaipur palace but I feel it contains more delicate, costly and noteworthy items. Articles here are almost from all over the world. Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Roman, French and much more. Specially I admired and witnessed that there are plenty of paintings from Raja Ravi Varma along with many foreign painters. Statues, old dresses, royal artillery etc keep you awestruck.
Please do a short trip in this museum coz the main attraction is the palace. Watch out for the Raja Ravi Verma paintings, 3D paintings and also the ivory bed of Sayajiraje III and Chimnabai. The gold painting of Khanderao is also unique. Do a quick trip in the museum.
It was really great experience to visit Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum.
I like some paintings which was designed and painted by awesome artirst. That paintings was like 3D you can feel the flow and aura of the paintings. Also there was lots of gifts and memorial things which was gifted to King.
From French / China / United Kingdom and other countries have already gifted them so many expensive gifts.
It's not that interesting a museum. Many common things that we get to see at other museums as well. Only the 3D paintings were different and quite amazing. The fees charged are way too much for only a compact museum. The peacock outside is a plus point.
Portraits of Historical figures, nature and landscapes; bronze statues, ceramic works are on display. Some landscape portraits are having 3D effects, it may appear some objects e.g. Road, stairs shifts as per location of viewer.
