Considered one of the prime Junagadh tourist attractions, the zoo authorities are famed for having wild and free moving Asiatic lions that have been wiped out from most of Asia and are nowadays found only in the nearby Gir Forest. Apart from the Asiatic Lions, the Junagadh Zoo is home to 700 mammalian species, 115 reptiles, and 200 hundred birds. Chowsingha or the four-horned antelopes, Indian Leopards, chital, sambar, blackbucks, black panther, hippopotamus, Crocodiles, Ostriches, spotted deer, flying squirrel, monkey, etc.are the main animal species found in the zoo.
Lush-green Ravantad tad palms, foxtail palms, tall Ashoka trees, and large banyan trees visible from the busy road add to the beauty of the zoo’s general surroundings which otherwise resemble that of the Gir forest, the last abode of Asiatic lions in the world. They've taken away the tigers as they were nowhere to be seen during the visit. As of the conditions of animals were not in a proper manner. Wildlife should be protected at any cost as they are very essential for our mother nature. Taking utmost care of them and providing necessary facilities will do a little part on ourselves to ensure the beautiful mother nature.

It's truly a beautiful zoo as i never saw in my whole life in just Rs. 30. The zoo is well maintained.

જૂનાગઢમાં પ્રવેશ કરતાં જ ડાબા હાથે શક્કરબાગ પ્રાણી સંગ્રહાલય આવેલ છે. ખૂબ જ મોટું પ્રાણી સંગ્રહાલય છે. જ્યાં સફેદ વાઘ જોવા મળે છે તથા હિપોપોટેમસ પણ છે. આ બાગમાં સાંજના પાંચ વાગ્યા પહેલા બસમાં બેસી ને જંગલમાં ફેરવવામાં આવે છે. જેની ટિકિટ પણ લેવાની હોય છે.

Nice attraction in Saurashtra

It is very much helpful to young children for their knowledge of wildlife. They do have some rare species which is not easily seen in other zoo. Animals are also in good condition. Lion safaris within the zoo is must see attraction.

Quite a big zoo with varieties of animals, birds and reptiles. Children's park and resting areas are beautiful too. Basic amenities are not easily available like clean toilet or drinking water. The restaurants outside are great especially the Patel's restaurant

Specialises mainly in several bird types. Lacks a sea animal auditorium, but compensates with quite majestic wild animals.

There is a good place to know, but looking at the condition of the animals in the zoo, it seems that the care is not taken by management department and zoo keepers also they are not maintain and follow social distancing and staff also not wearing masks

Good place for 2 to 3 hour. Regular species of animal and bird. Animal are not treated well. No map or layout or not even sign board in zoo. Condition of cage and cage area is to small for few animal.

સક્કરબાગ ઝૂઓલોજિકલ ગાર્ડન જેને સક્કરબાગ ઝૂ અથવા જૂનાગઢ ઝૂ તરીકે પણ ઓળખવામાં આવે છે તે 84 હેક્ટર (210 એકર) પ્રાણીસંગ્રહાલય છે જે 1863 માં જૂનાગઢ ગુજરાત, ભારત ખાતે ખોલવામાં આવ્યું હતું. આ ઝૂ ભારતીય અને આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય લુપ્તપ્રાય પ્રજાતિઓ માટે વિશુદ્ધ જાતિના એશિયાટિક સિંહો પૂરી પાડે છે જે ગંભીર રીતે જોખમમાં મુકાયેલી પ્રજાતિઓ માટે કેપ્ટિવ બ્રીડિંગ પ્રોગ્રામ આપે છે. જંગલી મુક્ત એશિયાટિક સિંહો મોટાભાગના એશિયામાં લુપ્ત થઈ ગયા છે અને આજે માત્ર નજીકના ગીર જંગલમાં જોવા મળે છે.

Its been over 5-6 years since i have been to zoo. It had lots of species of bird, mammels, reptiles. But i was expecting more from this place. Overall brought back some old memories of childhood though.

Animals not maintained properly. They look very ill and hungry. Few years back it was a great place to visit as all animals were fresh. Now only one pair of lion and one tiger is seen.before there was so many of them to watch. Pehle jaisa maja nahi raha.

The Sakkarbaug Zoo was established in 1863 by The Mohabat khanji Babi-II of Junagadh state. It is second oldest zoo of India and fourth biggest zoo in India.

In 2003 the zoo opened a natural history museum in a large hall in the veterinary hospital. The museum opened with the skeletons of two Asiatic lions, as well as panther, deer, wild boar, antelope, black buck, blue bull, and spotted deer. Eggs, beaks, and feathers of various birds were also on display. The museum will be expanded as specimens become available.

In 2008 the Sakkarbaug Zoo Management Advisory Society (initially with 10 members) was formed to develop and manage the zoo and its finances

Sakkarbaug Zoo gathers all the serene environs of Junagadh at one place. Sprawling over an area of 200 hectares, Sakkarbaug zoo was open to the public in 1853. In the year 2003, management of zoo inaugurated a natural history museum in a large hall in the veterinary hospital. People who don't want to indulge in a three-hour wildlife safari at Gir National Park can visit the Sakkarbaug Zoo as here one can spot Asiatic lions roaming freely. Some of the fauna include panther, deer, antelope, wild boar, blue bull, black buck, and spotted deer. Objective of the Sakkarbaug Zoo is to protect the animals in captivity and also to educate the people about the endangered and rare species of the earth.

The Zoo is really very big as compared to other zoos in Gujarat also it have so may different variety of animals like Hippopotamus, The Giant Indian Squirrel, Different kind of Cockatoos (a breed of Parrots) white tiger, The Great Indian Tiger, Lion etc. I think if one vists Junagarh He must go to Zoo also there is shop of Gujarat Government which sells many things specially Honey which is really a good one to buy.

The animals and birds is Good but the eating area and the toilets r very very bad disgusting the toilets have not been cleaned since 10 yrs looks like very sad the authority's r just eating money and not maintaining such a beautiful zoo shame on the management and the local government. There is plastic thrown all over the eating area and it is very dirty and the people r just not bothered they just through rubish and paper and containers and classes and bottles as if the place is a dust bin shame on the local people also.

The zoo is very good. Various animals, birds are kept in it. The entry fee is also less for adult almost 30 rs. Water facility is also available. Parking facility is also very good. Cleanliness inside the zoo is good but some imporvement is needed because it smells bad near the cage of animals. The animals must be provided proper food because the big animals such as lion, tiger, leapord etc are at verse of destruction as proper food is not given. The garden is good. Canteen is also there inside the zoo. Almost nice to visit the zoo.

There is proper parking facility available over there. Place is little bit dirty. It is quite popular tourism place. There are numerous of animal, birds, snack and few fishes. The management staff do not work for betterment of the zoo. There is single windor for thousands of tourist. They should focus on the improvement of the zoo.

ગુજરાતમાં આવેલાં પ્રાણીસંગ્રહાલયમાં સૌથી શ્રેષ્ઠ સક્કરબાગ છે. જૂનાગઢમાં આવેલું આ સ્થાન હાજરો પ્રવાસીઓને દર વર્ષે આકર્ષક લાગે છે. પ્રાણીઓની જીવન રીત જોવા માટે બાળકોને અચૂક પ્રાણી સંગ્રહાલય માં લઇ જવા જોઈએ. આ સક્કરબાગ માં દુનિયા ભર ના દુર્લભ પ્રાણીઓ જોવા મળે છે. આખા એશિયા ખંડમાં એશિયાટિક સિંહ ફક્ત સાસણ ગીર માં જોવા મળે છે. સિંહ જોયા પછી બીજા પ્રાણીઓ પણ લોકોને અહીં જ જોવાનો લ્હાવો મળી રહે છે. સક્કરબાગ ની બાંધણી ઘણી સારી છે. પ્રાણીઓ સારી રીતે જોઈ શકાય તે માટે એમને મોટા અને વિશાલ જગ્યા માં રાખવામાં આવે છે. ઇમુ અને શાહમૃગ જોવા એ એક લહાવો છે. બેંગળ ટાઇગર જોઈને તો રુવાડા ઊભાં થઇ જાય હો. આપના ઘરમાં નાના નાના બાળકો હોય તો એમની કલ્પનાઓ ના વિકાસ માટે સક્કરબાગ ની મુલાકાત લેવી જોઈએ. જૂનાગઢમાં આ સિવાય પણ ઘણું વધારે જોવા જેવું છે. મજેવડી દરવાજો, અડીકડી વાવ, કાળવા ચોક, નરસિંહ મહેતા નો ચોરો, ગિરનાર, મહોબત મકબરો અને બીજું ઘણું. તો બોલો ક્યારે જાઓ જૂનાગઢ.
તળેટી માં આવેલા ભવનાથ ને નમવા નું ભૂલતા નહિ, થોડા બોરદેવી બાજુ જાઓ તો ત્યાં મહાવીર સ્વામી પણ ઉભા છે જોતા આવજો. બ બહાઉદીન કોલેજ પાસેથી પસાર થાઓ ને કદાચ સરદાર વલ્લભભાઈ પટેલ નો રણકો સંભળાય તો ના નહીં હો. ચાલો જય ગિરનારી.

When you are at historic city of Junagadh, a visit here is a must, especially if you are with small children.

And, you can buy pure, unadulterated forest products like honey and herbal medicines at the zoo store.
But, conditions out side and nearby zoo need attention

Many animals are lazy so visitors can't see them properly and wake up.
Many cages are without any animal.
In fish aquarium some are blanked.
The mirror of the cages are vary rough so visitors can't see anything.

It was the first zoo in India where one can found African Cheetahs. Now a days there is not any Cheetah.

On the entrance there is a information center.

It has many animals and birds. Hippos, Asiatic Lion, Bengal Tigers, white tigers, Ostrich, Emu -are the main attractions of the zoo. There is an aquarium.

You can purchase pure honey from the store.there is a canteen ; there are swings and slides for kids too.

The Entry free is Rs. 20 for adults and Rs. 10 for children. It is remain closed on every Wednesday.

It's a good experience to visit sakkarbaug zoological garden in junagadh but the aquarium is in very e bad condition and all over sakkarbaug zoo is very dirty and filthy according to my experience I suggest you to visit sakkarbaug zoo and I request to zoo authority to keep clean the God and and cages of animals keep clean and maintain the plates of information in the zoo

I work divide life film maker for number of years and frequently visited the zoo 10 years back, what does time I found that in spite of developing it has been shiwn the poor condition of cages and missing some animals.
