Thol Bird Sanctuary

Its good. Pelicans, ducks, cranes, storks etc.are seen in abundance. A pleasant atmosphere and scenery is seen. A rare species of Woolly-Necked Stork was seen. So if you have interest in this please do visit Thol Lake. But have some information about it because it can be closed for bird counting.

Nature in its pristine, pure form. Away from all the honking and disturbing noises, here you are surrounded by just the soothing sounds of the nature, the rustling of leaves, the gentle breeze that embraces and engulfs you head to toe, the birds chirping and their wings flapping at gay abandon.
Thol takes us closer to nature. Oh. I would happily spend hours just gazing at the landscape here.
I would love to sit on those lush green grasses, and the fallen tree trunks, that are untouched and uncorrupted by any of those human ambitions. You can be yourself here, be one with the nature, and hum along your favorite song
A nature lover would understand me better.

It is a very peaceful place, Nature loving people should visit the man-made Thol lake. Good Parking Place. Good place to take photography. For car parking 400 rs will be charged and also for 2 Weeler there is a charge. Entry fee is 50 Rs. Note bring an addhar car or have a soft copy in your phone for ticket booking. It's an open forest with no restroom, playground.only for getting peace you can visit this place.

THOL is a must visit place if you're in a Gujarat. But the main thing is You've to visit in early morning. After morning 9-10 you'll find nothing over here. Better to go in Winter nd Monsoon. (Don't ever try to go in summer or after morning 9-9: 30)

The best thing that in every morning with the light sunrise and bird chirping you'll get so much of inner peace that any one can't expressed in words.

But, Please note that some infrastructure is under renovation. So, not all the things are open here.

Parking Fee: 0 for 2-wheeler and 200 for 4-wheeler.
(best if you go on 2-wheeler)
Entry Fee: 40/- per person
if you take DSLR with you then you've to pay for the photography fees also, which is 500/-

I'm advising you all not to go there. This place isn't for families. There's no cleanness in the areas or parking. 500 is for parking only.

As usual amazing place for Nature lovers like me, Visited Thol Bird sanctuary in the month of October 2021. It’s not exactly the season to spot Migratory birds but can spot Ibis, King Fisher, Heron and other local Birds.

Must carry - If you want to spot birds have Good Binoculars.

Do’s and Don’ts- Can roam inside and don’t crate any noise which can disturb birds (I have seen people coming here like City Garden and do all around noise)

Things to remember before visiting -
Plastic Water bottles not allowed in side Sanctuary.

Months to visit -
Generally all 12 Month you can visit but if you are Bird Enthusiastic then visit between November to February. When you can actually spot migratory birds.

Just a land lock water logging place. You cannot explore the birds and take pics. Only few places are there where you can spot birds from close quarters. Parking fee is very high as compared to facilities.
Morning time the best to visit. Morning sunrise is enjoyable. For nature lovers is is a little bit disheartening that what you expect is not present there.

Need to take DLSR as you wont be able to see any bird through your mobile cam. You will enjoy the weather, beautiful sound by the crowd of birds. Greenary.

There not much to explore here but good place for relaxing and taking Photography Sessions with the Nature.

Visited Thol Bird sanctuary on 061121. Place is nice and cool for relaxing weekend. We can see bird's but which are on mid way of lake. You can see them by telescope or you have SLR camera with you. They charge for additional camara. Better to go by car inside if you have family with you. There no separate charge for individual if you go by car. Area to roaming around is too less or may be under maintenance. One time visiting is fine.

If you are really nature enthusiastic and want to get some peace of mind from some hectic city life you must visit here.
Best month to visit: between November to February
Go before sunrise so you can enjoy beautiful sunrise.

If you are in Ahmedabad from November till March, make sure you visit Thol. Ideally reach 15-20 minutes before sunrise.

It’s quite a walk from parking area till where birds are perched on trees. The sight at sunrise with birds leaving trees together is quite something.

The place is not well organised though like a typical bird sanctuary is. There is also an entrance fee per person and also for the vehicle.

Ideal time to see rare bird is 5: 00 Am but some birds are seen from 6: 30 Am also.

Amazing natural place. Bird sanctuary. For best experience- visit during monsoon in early morning.

I have seen this place from Photographs only. Currently it is closed (11-09-21). Entry of tourists is closed by Goverment Authorities. No-one knows when it will open. Best time to visit this place is in Monsoon Season.

Driving to Thol is easy and yet contributes to noise and air pollution. Cycle down to thol from Bopal/Shilaj or even Manipur. The road on most patches is cycle friendly. The silence at Thol is a bliss. Take a mat/sheet to find a spot and relax. Do not carry eatables that will cause litter. Don't take any music devices and enjoy the serenity of birds!

It is a really great place for a peaceful outing, we have a lot of memories at this place. A must visit for people coming to and from Ahmedabad.

EDIT: As of 30.08.2021, the bird sanctuary is closed due to bird flu. Please avoid till it reopens.

Thol is the beautiful wildlife bird Sanctuary, Lot of beautiful birds in the lake. We recommended go early morning so you can watch beautiful sunrise with beautiful birds. Place who love nature. There are really many unique birds in there. No foods stall are available in that location.

Thol Lake Bird Sanctuary is situated around a man-made, freshwater lake and makes for an ideal picnic destination. The marshland on the edge of the lake and the forest surrounding is home to a wide variety of bird population including Sarus Crane – the world’s tallest flying bird. Enjoy a rejuvenating day filled with the sweet chirping of birds and the serenity the sanctuary offers.

Location: Thol Road, (30 km from Ahmedabad)

Best time to visit:  October to March

Timings:  6: 00 am to 5: 30 pm

Entry fee:  INR 40 (weekdays), INR 50 (weekends)

It is closed. No any information on placed anywhere about it closure. The approach road is too narrow to take even U-turn and the guards are so rude that they will not allow you to take U-turn just inside the sanctuary gate.

This place is temporary closed due to bird flu. When your going with your car the ticket charge of car is 500 rs

It was my first time get it to this area. Some of them were saying that it's closed and some said open but I thought to give a try and luckily I got the chance to enter inside and clicked some amazing pictures.
Actually this is the mating season for the birds over there so we have to keep quite as much as we can and avoid taking food over because many of them throws thrash over there making the area untidy. Just keep a bottle with you and try to reach as early as you can because around 8.30 some local guy comes to check that who is there inside and tell them to leave. Better take your vehicle everytime because if they lock the gate then it'll become difficult for you to go out.

Beautiful place nestled just 15 kms from Ahmedabad city. You will get lush green surroundings on your way to the bird sanctuary. It is usually the most preferred spot for cyclists as the road is smooth and is not so buzy as well. Very good picnic spot to spend a day with family of friends

Nice place where you live a peaceful life also enjoy with family. In short a one day trip for Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and nearby peoples.

Amazing roads to the destination, we went there by bicycle from Ranip. I must say the journey was very good. You must visit the place with family once a month.

Very beautiful and peaceful place to watch birds near Ahmedabad it's a Bird sanctuary.lots of birds found here. Very well maintained. You can walk on the beautiful path of the lake, take rest near the forest office garden. There is a nominal entry ticket. Some couple are now doing there pre wedding photography here. But all this activity we are doing in birds home not our so please do it silently. Try to visit in weekdays to avoid crowd.must visit here. If u are Bird lover and photographer.

Please tell me Is it open by 12th of jun 2021? Because covid cases is very rapidly fall please reply as soon as possible.

Average experience. Its Must visit in early morning. You can find different species pf birds in winter season. Good for camping-with group. Not preferred for solo if you want to spend time here. Parking rates are too too costly. 500/- inr for single car. 50/- inr per person. Not worth the charges. Need to maintain the place with greenery and some improvements.

There is this one gali on the right side just before the thol main gate. Went there to explore coz sanctuary was closed due to bird flu. And took few good images

Visited on a weekend. There was such a long waiting queue of cars, waiting to enter inside the premises/ main gate of the lake. Ticket charges were high even for Indian nationals.

Even though it was mentioned that it is a plastic free zone, people still litter food wrappers and other stuff. No security check done upon entering. Some people brought their own Bluetooth speakers, which shouldn’t have been allowed to take it into the premises as its high volume disturbs/scares away birds. A great place for a leisurely walk, its a good idea to wear a comfortable footwear, if you like to take walk and explore it.

A Great place to visit especially during winters as lot of migratory birds are found here during this time. And do carry your cameras, SLRs & DSLRs if you love capturing nature, because its a beautiful place. Overall serene and a fun place for all age groups.

Nice place to go for a sunrise and a small picnic. The place is not well maintained though. Entry fees for car is 500, bike is 100 and no charge for cycles.

Do carry a picnic basket if you intend to spend an hour or two with your mates. Also, try to reach early and take right from the main entrance.

Nice natural place to visit. I visited into second week of January. Not found too many birds. Place is little bit dirty. Tickets is also costly. I found Vadhavana Bird sanctuary is better than Thol. But from Ahmedabad Thol is near compare to Vadhavana. We entered in Thol almost at 7.30 am and at ticket counter they ask us to leave place at 9.00 am. You can enjoy photography by your phone. For camera you have to pay extra money.

A beautiful place indeed! Must visit place for someone who's into bied watching or photography. Migrated birds can be seen from December to Mid February.if possible, leave homes early to visit thol and experience a beautiful sun rising over the Horizon.

Great place near Ahmedabad. It's a beautiful burd sanctuary and I would recommend you to present there right before sunrise. Birds sound will definitely make your day. Must visit place specially during winters.

Good place to visit for nature and bird lovers. You can see lots of birds during winter mornings. The place needs some infrastructure development to develop as a tourist attraction. Just a basic view point for tourists and a walk around the wetland periphery can be done.

Beautiful, serene place. We were able to spot lot of different types of birds. Good time to reach - 8 AM. Binoculars are required to view the birds from the shore

People also come here for morning or evening walk. Best place for one day picnic. Restaurants are also available outside this place. I strongly recommend this place to everyone. Everyone should visit this place once in lifetime.entry fee is also minimal.

This good place for scouting but it is lacking in its facilities.though good place for birds but you have to find proper knowledge about birds and their migration patterns cuz when i went there I didn’t find much of them.
