Christ Church, Shimla

I don’t know to describe the experience that I had here in this church. There was a silence that led me to have a deep self introspection and it was beyond my imagination. I also had a great company with myself so maybe that helped.
I will always remember this place so many memories.

A very beautiful church a must visit as its among one of the oldest churches in India, second oldest, it’s beautiful from Inside very well maintained, there are many attractions near by such as the ridge, mall road but the church stands out, i would highly recommend weather you are a believer in god or belongs to another faith, everyone is welcomed there, there is no ticket required to enter hence a must visit place if your are in shimla.

Its the best place i have visited so far. The morning scene was fabulous with people doing morning walk and the sun rising.

The church opens at 10: 00 am.
But you can always visit the mall road.

Simla was all forest when the first Europeans came to these hills in 1820s. There were two or three dilapidated shepherd's huts and a small "Hanuman temple" situated on the Jakhoo Hill. The Europeans sought permission on the Raia of Keonthal, from whose state much of simla was later carved out, to build residences. Captain (later Major) Charles Kennedy was the Political Agent of the British Government posted in these hill states. He built the first house and the estate known as Kennedy

Christ Church was designed by Colonel J. T. Boileau in 1844, and the cornerstone was laid on 9 September 1844 by Bishop Daniel Wilson, Bishop of Calcutta. The church was consecrated on 10 January 1857 by Bishop Thomas Daltrey, Bishop of Madras. The estimated cost of construction at that time was 40,000 to 50,000 Rupees. The clock adorning Christ Church was donated by Colonel Dumbleton in 1860. The porch was added in 1873. A British manufactured pipe-organ was installed in 1899 which was extensively renovated in 1932.

On September 11,1918, Guy Gibson, leader of Operation Chastise, the famous "Dambusters Raid" of 1943, was christened here.

The church contains five fine stained glass windows. One represents the Christian virtues of Faith, Hope, Charity, Fortitude, Patience, and Humility. The chancel window was designed by Lockwood Kipling (father of Rudyard Kipling). The pipe-organ of Christ Church is the largest in the Indian subcontinent; it was installed in September 1899.

It's a very attractive place for tourists. Prayer hours or visiting inside to be confirmed from locals or the church staff itself

The view is quiet Good. Its worth going there. Near the church there is a library as well.
The only glitch is the crowd, but then you can't complain because its a tourist place.

Christ Church was one of the few colonial buildings erected in Shimla, which was once the summer capital of the British. It is a beautiful place to stroll around. There is the Mall Road very next to it and the lakkar bazar on the other end. There are benches opposite of the church where one can sit on and enjoy the views. The view from here changes at different time of the day.

Christ Church survived the 20th-century partition and the subsequent political upheavals on the Indian subcontinent. The first Indian Chaplain of Christ Church Shimla was Rev. B. S. Chander (1948 to 1957). Christ Church continues to be well maintained and is in relatively good condition. The clock's original mechanical mechanism has more recently been replaced with an electrical equivalent. However, currently whilst all 4 faces of the clock remain in synchronization they rarely reflect the correct time.

It's a very beautiful palace in shimla, also called mall road. You visit hare if you going to shimla, I think you know about Jakhoo Temple. It's near about mall road.

You get a private bus from ISBT shimla for mall road. It's a 6 km far away from ISBT shimla.

Church is on very amazing location, its on the Ridge of shimla and centre of attraction on ridge. You will get the peace inside it and when you visit gere must go inside. And in the night, it looks very beautiful as it is totally decorated from outside with proper lights. Its worth visiting here. Outside Environment is amazing as lots of peoole gathered on ridge which makes everything good.

Christ church is the main attraction in Shimla. It is located on the ridge. Vehicles are prohibited in this area accept VIP vehicles and emergency vehicles. Mall is also near ridge from where you can grab stuffs for yourself. You can find almost every brand here like puma, Nike, adidas, wildcraft etc.

Best in the month of October to January. A place of romanticism. View it from the scandal point. The light gives a eternal effects at night.

Awesome location to visit, you can have it in background for wonderful photography. Many movies have been shooted here. You can go inside the church but there photography is not allowed and has to mantain silence as there many people use to perform prayer. Near to it there is lakkad bazaar where u can shop local items and suppress your hunger.
