Quiet in the countryside in Bir, 10mn walking from center, very good benefits on a heated mattress, superb terrace heating, wood fire in the evening on the very friendly terrace.we sympathized with the owner who helped us a lot for the rest of our stay. I recommend!

We had gone to Bir for a few days and stayed at Colonels Resort. The place is beautiful and well-kept. The staff is super friendly and the colonel went out of his way to pick us up from the bus stop and help with cab drivers and paragliding pilots. The rooms are well-maintained, clean, and cozy. We really enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Bir

The charm of property of Colonel's Resort has left me reminiscing of the beautiful couple of days I've spent there this year in January. Great cool temperatures, especially chilly in the nights and early mornings but the Colonel's got you covered with a cosy bonfire under the stars in the evenings!

The resort is at an accessible location close to Bir Billing (the famous and best paragliding destination in India, the property being closer to the landing point), abundance of greenery and a well maintained and clean environment, family and pet friendly! You can either go there as a couple, or with your family or with friends as well!

Bigger rooms are very spacious, well decorated and have a very old school Himachali home sort of a feel to it, the dining area, as well, just adjacent to garden overlooking the green field, also has a very homely and old school traditional feel to it, the tables and cutlery set in a very neat and orderly fashion, as you would expect from a man of discipline. The food was brilliant, a mix of Indian as well as continental options. You can tell the Colonel your preferences and he'll arrange for the same but do inform in advance so as to have the meal prepared and served on time). The staff is very hospitable and disciplined as well. Very helpful with whatever your requirements may be.

I had the wonderful opportunity to befriend the Colonel, or JP, as he would like to be addressed. A very warm, cuddly man with an intensity to him that at first will intimidate but later reveal what a soft and warm person he is! Very friendly and will always recommend the best of things to either eat or visit! He, along with his family, including his son Vikram, have been very accomodating.

When asked about starlit skies amidst conversation, he was more than happy to request his son to have their telescope set up in the night! I got to witness a beautiful night sky along with moon and its craters as well as Saturn and its rings (luckily during that time of the year)! They have a beautiful border collie doggo named Ginger as well, who loves to play with the horses at the property and yank on their tail (literally!)

I also got to go for a morning walk at sunrise along with Colonel and his friends who were visiting him at the time! I was the youngest in the lot! The walk was nothing short of pleasant with beautiful scenery of the hills and even caught a glimpse of some paragliders in the morning sky! Such a beautiful and wholesome experience!

While leaving the resort, I didn't feel like leaving at all! We also purchased a bag of homegrown Colonel's Chamomile Black Tea grown right on that resort property behind the plain field! All in all, one of the best experiences I've had in a long time! Would recommend totally!

I have been patronizing this property for 10 years, and every time I have been here, has been a unique experience. It's like a home away from home. Organic meals including free range eggs, vegetables organically grown and warm, courteous hospitality. It's a must visit once in a life time, Please do not miss this opportunity.

We were in Bir for Paragliding and had booked our stay at the The colonels resort. The Colonel and team made our stay one we will remember and cherish for a lifetime. The hospitality showed by the host made us feel right @ home. Comfortable accomodation with breathtaking views one only gets to see on postcards. A dream come true! Thank you soo much!

Being at Colonel's Resort was an enjoyable experience. Colonel likes to be called JP. He is friendly and we both went for a morning walk. He has a beautiful property which is so well designed that the rooms even at night are so cosy and warm despite the bitter cold winds of the hills.
Bonfire followed by delicious dinner with other guests and his own family made the atmosphere heartwarming.
Organic food, tea coffee from their own cow milk, delicious delectable in house made cookies and refreshing lime water, all so special!
Everyone including staff is warm and hospitable.
All arrangements, from shopping, sight seeing to going for paragliding were made easy and convenient.
I will cherish every moment spent here. It has created the best memories ️

If you are planning for Bir-Billing, look no further than Colonel's Resort.
Perfect place for family with children who want to retreat. The property has sprawling lawns where mares and cows graze. HRTC Volvo drops you at its gate. Colonel Singh and his son Vikram hosted us with never to forget hospitality and personal care.

It was the worst stay i ever had in my life.no hospitality.we were served with cold food.even the behaviour of the owner was not considerable.the owner must learn how to behave with guests. I would never recommend anyone to stay here.just waste of money and time.and mood spoiler

If I say about my stay, i will never ever recommend this resort where staff has no courtesy to talk to the customer. Useless food and u have to beg for each thing.
Typical title for the staff can be INSULTING & NON COURTEOUS.

No ac OVERHYPED resort in BIR Worst experience EVER!
Welcomed with overflowing flush. The staff and the owner was very rude. The telephone wasn’t working and the toilet was covered with ants. They charged us for everything. They said you’re using toilet so give us charge. They said extra bed means extra charge. The extra bed was not a bed, it was a mattress. Lawns were not good.
Buffet was a joke. Lawns weren’t maintained. A must avoid!

The worst place I’ve ever been to. The staff has 0 hospitality and no care for the guest. It’s like a boarding school where you have to complete your meals by 9 pm, or Mr Colonel the Owner will come at you shouting and will turn the lights off. The colonel’s behaviour is the worst, and this resort is only surviving as rest of the properties in Bir are homestays. No room service. You can try your stay here if you want to spoil your trip. Would Never recommend such a place to anyone. Only the property is good which will look in photographs, which doesn’t make it worth it. -5 stars for this place.

This property fits the requirements of tourists going to relax in the lap of mountains.
It has ample of space, lots of trees, birds chirping all day, good food, intelligent staff and the colonel saheb who takes care about each guest personally ️️️️️️

Beautiful and relaxed atmosphere, great hospitality, friendly and helpful staff. It was like staying at a friend's beautiful farm house in the hills. It has it's own tea garden, fruit orchard, poultry and horses. Evenings are spend with hosts and other guests around a bonfire, under the starry sky and cool mountain breeze, sharing jokes and life experiences. It is a place you would like to come to year after year. Heartfelt thanks to Colonel JP & his charming wife for the warm hospitality.

This is the most stunning and comfortable place to be at. No matter how many days your stay here, it will never be enough. Don't pay any attention to any of these negative comments, the staff and the Colonel himself are the most amazing people I've ever come across. They will help you in every manner possible to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I am in love with this resort and will be back for sure!

The personal involvement of the couple, polite efficiency of Colonel’s Team, taped up drills, carefully crafted menus, passion for cooking and serving exotic dishes, excellent rapport in town, salubrious climate of Bir, panoramic view of lush green locale impregnated with beautiful colours of flowers, those spiritual steps for the pleasure of meditation and soulful music around अलाव work together to weave an enriched experiencing of happiness. Five of us, friends from same class, and same school since 1968, had some seriously good times …

The best place to stay in and around bir. Hosts are great and would go beyond professional etiquette to make your vacation comfortable and memorable. Money and time well spent, got to experience the best combination of nature and hospitality, with all the amenities one could need right in place. Perfect food, hygiene and hospitality. Would recommend a thousand times over!

Awesome place. Beyond the relaxing atmosphere of the resort, the next bst part was the fantastic food and excellent service by the staff. Clean n beautiful rooms. Open areas to stroll nd njoy the natural beauty of nature, away from hustle and bustle of market. Prices were very reasonable. Do not miss out if ever visiting Bir. I look forward to returning.

Best place to stay in Bir without a doubt. Hospitality offered at this place is unmatched with the owners treating you as extended family only. Vikram even took my kids around for a local tour which was really appreciated.food is also awesome, homely and delicious. Could easily eat here for a month without getting bored or feeling the need to go anywhere else.

Good entertainment with stand up comedy shows, music, bonfire etc organized on the evenings.

May be slightly expensive than the other places in Bir but worth every penny.don't think twice before booking here

Location is amazing. Super delux room has a fab view. Meals are good. Must try the melt in your mouth Baked Trout. Colonel and his family are very pleasant and helpful.

We had the opportunity of spending five days at Colonel's Resort. Our stay was extremely comfortable and relaxing.
The resort made all the arrangements for us, right from airport pickup at Dharamshala and the drop. They even organised the Paragliding for us, including pick and drop from the resort.
The room was spacious, clean, comfortable and tastefully done. The staff was cordial and helpful. The room opened out to green exteriors, with ample fruit bearing trees.
The food was sumptuous, hygienic and tasty.
The icing on the cake was the personal touch by Col and Mrs JP Singh, who interacted with all the guests regularly, to make them comfortable.
Overall a nostalgic sojourn. I would definitely like to stay again and would highly recommend to everyone visiting Bir.

Colonel's resort Bir exemplifies warmth in hospitality. It is honestly one of the best stays I've had anywhere in the world. The location is brilliant, you wake up every morning to a gorgeous view of the Dhauladhar range. The resort itself is very well-appointed with everything one might need. The tea, milk and some vegetables and fruits are all sourced from within the resort itself. What bowled us over though was the family itself and how keen they were to ensure we had a great stay there. The Colonel's son & daughter in law suggested various treks around the area and also put us in touch with pilots for paragliding and made some great recommendations for food around Bir. A bon fire is lit in the evenings which was definitely a highlight during the stay. Everything was just perfect. Couldn't have asked for a better stay. If you're ever in Bir, Colonel's is an absolute must-stay!

Less is More! A treat in Bir.

It was difficult at first to get Colonel Saab on the phone to try and figure out how to make a reservation but when we did connect, he agreed to hold the room without an advance payment as we had already begun our road trip. The Resort is beautifully maintained with horses, dogs and sometimes cows roaming around freely in the open lawns. The room given to us probably had the best view on the property. Panoramic view of never ending hills. The room was spacious and so was the bathroom. Very clean and well maintained.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the first floor in the building adjacent to Colonel's residence.

The service was also great with fixed buffet meals (no ala-carte). Now this is one thing I was not aware of when I made the reservation, nor was I informed of this by the staff till I inquired myself after checking in. The limited buffet menu had one non veg dish and 3 veg dishes with roti and rice. The food was fresh and tasty for sure. You can carry your own alcohol and consume on the property even around the bonfire in the evening/night.

Paragliding was organised by the Resort staff itself. The Colonel and his wife who manage the Resort were on a vacation at the time and their son was overlooking operations.

Just one thing that we did not appreciate. On the first night when we sat right outside the restaurant around the bonfire, we asked the server if there were any snacks that we could order. He suggested a few things including Chilly Chicken which was already on the buffet menu. It was odd to order a snack and pay for it separately when the same thing is already on the buffet for which we are in any case going to pay. Though we did order a starter that night, we thought of just eating a snack of the buffet the next night, only to be told that the son of the Colonel had instructed the servers that no food will exit the restaurant area, not even 3 steps out near the bonfire. This was a little weird considering the fact that we have no other option in the night in a place like Bir to eat outside the property and so we are going to pay for the buffet anyway. Then how does it matter if we consume our food inside the restaurant or on a chair 3 steps outside of it. Not like we were loading our plates and taking the food to our room.

Apart from this little thing that left a dent in our experience, the place is a must visit for a super comfortable stay at Bir!

This year due to pandemic my solo trip was a little doubtful and I was not sure where should I go. Then Himachal and Bir stood out from my research as a place worth visiting. Since Bir is primarily an adventure sports destination.not many high end hotels are there. So after much research we choose Colonel's and it turned out to be the best decision for me. The resort is run by Col. JP Singh and his family. As long as you stay there you will be a part of the family. Atleast one or more family members will always accompany you for each of your meals. They will always take care of you and they will notice all the smallest possible details to make you comfortable.

The resort is the safest place for families and solo female travellers like me. It is well manned and secured. So the grounds are absolutely safe for kids. The resort has three beautiful pets. The friendliest dog on earth Ginger, most beautiful white horse Revati and the most gentle Himalayan pony Noor. So the pet owners be assured that your pets will have the best holiday and company there.

The rooms are extremely well maintained. Clean, spacious and offers an amazing view of the snow capped mountains and valleys. All the rooms are well heated. Even a city girl like me didn't feel the chill.

Their staff is extremely caring and friendly. Be it the manager Tittar Singh ji or the restaurant staff Amrit or Lucky or the housekeeping head Vishnuji, they all took care of me and made me feel like a princess for those 4 days.

The best part about the resort is their food. First time in my life I have experienced that the owners are consuming the same food at the same table. So be assured about the quality of the food. Taste is just heavenly. More over everyday they used to make lot of local delicacies and varieties to satiate your taste bud. All the local delicacies were accompanied by some more common and widely accepted varieties depending on the types of guest. Like I noticed there was pasta and rolls in the menu while the kids were among the guests. For a Marathi family, poha and upma added to the breakfast menu. All the meals were generally a healthy combination of vegetarian and non vegetarian foods. Another shocking realization. I am very prone to quick acidity or upset stomach. But all the days I stayed there.not a single incident. There food is so well balanced and good for your health.

Lastly, don't miss the small treks through the village to the amazing waterfall and the river behind the resort. Take a walk around and explore the area. It's worth. Feel free to ask Mr. Vikram Aditya as he is the best person to guide you about Bir and will advice you about the best cafes or best trekking route or best activity.

This place connected with me through everything. But mostly connected through the warmth and hospitality of the people. Where staying there only I decided that I will be back here again and very soon. It's not even a week I am back. But I am already missing the amazing Bonfires, the breathtaking view from my window and the long happy chatting sessions with Col Sir, Pratibha mam or Vikram or Kamakshi. This place made me fall in love with Bir and Himachal and I will come back again and again.

This is CA. Ashok Shah aged 60, i have travelled all over India and abroad alao.we stayed at Colonels Resort for 6 days. I can't ask for more. The warmth extended by Colonel, Madam, Vikramaditya and his wife are beyond expectation. The jain food they served, Madam took personal interest that proper Jain food is served.thanks is too small a word.would definitely visit again in near future and many more time in future.

Well well well.though too many words can be less foe this property. There is something very unique about this place. There staff's hospitality, so fresh rooms always clean, a view, little little spaces so beautifully designed. Rooms are available for every zone, you can if you are backpacker you are also because they have economical rooms but with there upper package, the quality of rooms they provide is more than good to say. Closing my review, I will say a family business carved with such bliss that everybody should see it once. Hats off to Colonel's Family for everything you make us fell when we come to you guys.

The best that Bir has to offer, without a doubt.
The place is so homely, warm and comforting and the view is beautiful as is the location and the setup/layout of the resort. The breakfast view as well as the rooms were Perfect!

In short, must stay for minimum 3 nights or more & worth to stay over a week, under priced, high quality stay, very good food, interesting nearby activities, very nice property & room, nice hospitality, the best of Bir!

LOCATION:
This was a saviour as we checked out early from a highly rated property in Dalhousie and booked Colonel's Resort at last minute. Bir is an amazingly beautiful place and this resort is nestled in the right spot within 20mins walking distance to the paragliding landing station and the Bir tourist spot. Also, close to popular Tsering Jong monastery and the Nyingyang Monastery. Colonel's Resort falls on the way to the paragliding take-off point so the agent can pick you up on the way.

PROPERTY & ROOM:
With just 14 rooms but spread out over a relatively large area. You will get an amazing view of the mountains and so many paragliders flying in the sky. Also, a tea estate is attached to the property. There are quite many beautiful birds that you can spot in the property. Also, there is a bonfire spot and unlike other hotels where they charge for bonfire, here the hosts are generous to light a bonfire every evening!
The rooms are very cosy, decently big and clean. Outside the rooms there is a nice feel with trees and sitting area.

ACTIVITIES:
There are various things to do or places to visit nearby like experience paragliding, see organic farming at the Shunya Farm (do tip the caretaker), visit the pottery village Andretta & try your hands with clay, visit the nearby beautiful monasteries (named above), checkout Dharmalaya, do horse riding at the property, visit the cafes (must visit the Avva's Cafe) & shops (incl. Tibetan shops) near landing area.
Must go for the long morning walk through the beautiful village with Colonel Sir before breakfast and see village life, fruit trees, experience milking the cow, see the stepped farms, etc (Inhale deep all the way)!
Also, must go for the trek to the nearby pristine waterfall point and above that to the boulder (overlooking the valley below) where the property staff can take you to have some sandwiches & tea, absolutely worth it! (do tip the staff well)

RESTAURANT & FOOD:
The food at Colonel's Resort stands out as a USP of their hospitality. Fresh food cooked with love and high quality organic ingredients. You will not have any guilt feeling with over indulgence. We had all our three meals at the property itself. There is buffet meal available, inform in advance. Evenings are served with tea & cookies in the outside sit out area.

STANDOUTS:
1) ANIMALS - Ginger, an amazingly loving dog who loves to play with all guests. Revathi and Noori are two horses who roam freely in the property. Also, there are cows too. Do buy veggies from the market and feed Revathi, lovely experience! And Ginger will accompany you for the morning walk!
2) FOOD - The hosts/owners of the property stay at the resort too and eat the same food with the guests. Veggies are organic, pure good quality oil, milk & ghee from own cows, etc. The food is like amazing well cooked, tasty and guilt free home cooked food unlike hotel food. We could stay here for even a month eating the same food and yet leave back healthy!
3) HOSTS - Colonel Sir JP Singh, his wife Pratibha Maam, their son Vikramaditya and his wife Kamakshi are the most lovely people we met on our trip. They would ensure every guest is well taken care of and with that personal touch you just feel at home.
4) ACTIVITIES - The morning walk, trek to waterfall and paragliding will remain my favourite memories! Also the evening bonfire!
5) VALUE FOR MONEY - Considering the overall experience, high quality food & comfortable property and hospitality, the price charged is low and is an absolute steal for any traveller! We wanted to cancel our bookings ahead at other places and continue staying here but rooms were not available!

It's a little (quite) late review, But this place and Colonel and family are way too generous. The food is delicious. Fresh fruit jams and warm conversations will fill your memories with sweetness forever. Be kind to the place and people, and you will be surprised how much love and happiness you will get in return.
Also from a touristic point of view. 3-4 Monastries are very close. The Famous Deer Park and the Paragliding Landing area are all within walkable distance.

Bonus- cute dogs to lick your feet:)

There is nothing specific that i can say about this resort, this place is the only reason why me and my wife love Bir, food quality is great, Room are neat and clean which are prime requisite during these covid times.
