Hadimba devi temple is one of historical and famous temple in manali also called as dhungari temple. It is an ancient cave temple dedicated to Hidimba Devi wife of Bhima in Mahabharata. It is surrounded by cedar forest called as Dhungiri Van vihar.
18 नवंबर 2021 20:37
This ancient temple stands by a dense
cedar forest, which is a surprise in the otherwise touristy Manali. The forest cover around Hadimba Devi Temple is impressively thick, sunlight failing to
touch the ground at many places. No wonder that the presiding deity of the temple is also known as the Forest Goddess or the Goddess of Nature. While
devotees from all over the country are a regular here locals pray to the Goddess mostly in case of a natural calamity.
The temple was built by Maharaja Bahadur Singh in 1553, and has stood quite some tests of time. An intricate four-storey structure, it looks like a deserted cabin in the woods if there is nobody around. When you mention Manali, there is no skipping a mention of this temple. If Manali was a person, this
temple can rightly be called its heart. Even in the face of growing tourism, and its courtyards becoming increasingly commercial with locals selling
everything from yak cheese and wild gooseberries to yak rides!

This temple is in Circuit house road at Manali. It's a temple of devi Hidimba and nearby this temple there is a temple of her son, Ghatotkach. Hidimba is said to be the wife of Bhima, one of the Pandavas, and Ghatotkach was their son. It is a place of serenity and one can find natural beauty out there. As I and my husband were staying in a hotel at circuit house road, we went to the temple on foot. It was a kind of mini trekking for us. Anyway, the moment we reached there, it gave us a very glory feeling. As we entered we found local men and women selling flowers, prasad and all other decorative things. Then as we walked further we found some more with yak and rabbits and local dresses. Then visited the temple and sat there for sometime. I enjoyed the natural beauty of the temple area a lot. Just a few steps ahead to the temple again there are local sellers. We crossed them clicking a few pics with the furry rabbits and reached the Ghatotkach temple, which was full of horns under a tree. While coming back hungry and tired us, found a few small hotels that are run by the locals. Interestingly, these hotels sell Maggi. We went there and enjoyed a cup of tea and a plateful of maggi each of us. We had also found a Hidimba Adventure Park while coming back.
