200 years old Goddess Kali Temple in the heart of main Shimla! Great ambience and must visit while in Shimla. It is a quick 5 mins walk from Ridge/ mall road towards the Fingass Estate.
Temple is located about 1 kilometers away from Mall Road/Ridge. One can easily walk while enjoying the view on their left side. There is a shoe rack for the safekeeping of your shoes. R. O.drinking water is also there. A canteen/Dinning Hall is also there, which serve food from 10am-2pm & 7: 30pm-10pm.
There's a lot of mesmerizing views everywhere from the temple premises. Toilet & also there but not in good condition.
This is a very well maintained temple of Kali Mata. There is also a Shiva Linga in a nearby temple. There is a lot of austerity in the way the temple and the priest maintain and run the place and keep it clean as seva by devotees. But approaching the temple via Mall road is very difficult due to monkey menace. So is moving about within or nearby the temple precincts in the evenings. I don't think it'll be very different during the days. The monkeys have become very bold and aggressive here. Until the authorities do something about this, I would suggest non local tourists to not carry or buy eatables when on your way towards or away from the temple. And better still to simply avoid visiting.
The temple is dedicated to Maa Shyamla. The name Simla is derived from the name of this temple. Beautifully designed architecture. But the management here is poor. Be aware of monkeys as they may take away eatables from you. Jai Mata ki
Beautiful and old temple located between AG office and Scandal point side of the mall road. 5 minute uphill walk but a steep one can be challenging for eldert. Wasn't crowded when we went around 10am. Beautiful Valley views from the top. One can buy prasada, flowers and chunni etc from the shops adjacent to the temple. Place is peaceful and full of spiritual vibrations.
Kali bari stay is ok, but they do not provide extra quilt to guests. Just one double size quilt isn't enough. Their excuse is, "people should not visit Shimla in November". That is a very rough thing to say to guests. Then we as guests can urge tourists to not go to Kali bari in November and they must Post a notification about it. The food service is low quality. There are not much option. Now one could say the food is cheap but they can add more items to the menu and rise the price a bit. Also, compared to the price of one night stay with Manali they must provide hot water in rooms, but they don't. Whereas Manali is much colder than Shimla, and on 50 rupees less price most hotels offer hot water to each rooms. It's a religious place I get it, but when you are also offering rooms for tourists, you must be mindful about their comfort and regardless of the seasons. Whether we visit in November or April, we are not there exactly to stare at the face of the goddess and tolerate the harsh weather.
Not many know that this is the temple that gave the city of Shimla its name. Shyamala Devi became Shimla Devi in colloquial language and that's how the city got its name.
I visited the temple on the very first day of Navaratri. It is a tough climb and hence elders and children should exercise caution as the steep climb could make them short of breath.
This is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths.
Please don't miss Kali darshan if you're in Shimla.
One of the oldest Kali Mata temple in the region. It has a special significance among devotees who throng this place on a regular basis. The calmness possessed by this place is exceptional in spite of the proximity to the busy Mall road. The views of the valley from here are breath taking. It is always a great experience visiting this place. Well recommended.
The temple is located in middle of the city center…. It has a beautiful scenic charm of the city as well as of nature…. Kali Bari Mandir is a Hindu temple situated on Bantony Hill, Shimla…… The temple is dedicated to fearsome reincarnation of Goddess Kali, known as Shyamala, after which the Shimla city is named……. The goddess is believed to have existed near Jakhoo……Kali Bari temple was originally built in 1845 by a Bengali Brahmin Ram Charan Brahamchari in the vicinity of Rothney Castle on Jakhoo Hill. That's why it resembles the Dakshineswar Kali Temple in Kolkata. …. It is one of the ancient temples of the city and features a unique Hindu-style architecture along with blue coloured wooden idol of goddess Kali…… Later, the British shifted the location of the temple to Bantony Hill……

A landmark of Shimla. Very clean and tidy place where you can actually concentrate and pray. The evening prayers are mesmerising. And the view of the town from the mandir is magnificent especially when it's dark. Wheelchair services are available for elderly people and children. Small shops hustling with crowd selling religious idols, items and lot of more other things.
A century old temple located on Bantony Hill. The original temple was first reportedly consecrated in 1845 on Jakhu Hill. The idol is a blue coloured wooden one of Goddess Kali in a fearsome form of SHYAMALA, after whom the city of Shimla is named. There aren't many devotees now after the temple re-opened after COVID. One has to climb a lot to reach this temple. The view of Shimla from here is one worth seeing, morning and evening.
The best place of Simla from where you can easily go to Mall Road, Christ Church and Market. You can book room by online, fare is Rs. 300/- only, food are very teasty and economical. Specially Bengali tourist will feel more comfortable here.

A calm and sacred place. View of the city from here is the best. The place is very spiritual. Temple authorities and priests are very generous and helpful. Sunset view is fantastic. At the evening time the sound of the temple bell makes you feel spiritual and the twinkling lights of the city make you delight. Bengali food is available here with homelike taste and cheap cost. They also provide lodging and tour facility, but for these you have to book earlier.

The temple was built in the year 1845 and is dedicated to Goddess Kali who is also known as Shyamala. It is from the name of Goddess Shyamala that Shimla derives its name. The Kali Bari temple of Shimla is a very well known religious place of India and people who come to Shimla never miss out on visiting this temple. The Kalibari temple was primarily located in Jakhu hill. The British brought it to its new site. JAI MAA KALI
A nice Kali and Mahadeb temple, rooms are clean and breakfast evening snacks is very cheap and nice. The quality of lunch and dinner should be improved.
Kali Bari Temple is a very popular tourist attraction that is situated at a strategically planned location. Built in the year 1845, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali who is also known as Shyamala. From the Goddess Shyamala, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla gets its name.
Had an amazing time freaking amazing I'm talking about the best place I've ever been in my entire life. Almost would get Wonder if heaven would it be better than this.
Visited the Kali temple located in Shimla, which is walking distance from the Vidhan Sounds and the Mall. Reached in time for the Arathi at 6.15p.m. It was beautiful. The rhythmic play of the drum and the gong during the Arathi caught us spell bound. Temple is clean and we'll maintained. Devi Kali's idol too is beautiful. There are about 7-8 paintings of Kali in various forms. The approach is a slope and elders may not find it easy to climb. All said the temple is a must visit for Hindus.
