I recently visited this fort it's from the 15th century. It's a 20 min trek from the bus stop of sangla. This place is so calm and relaxing.you can feel the real silence here it is situated around the mountains and the view from this place is delightful.the guard aunty was helpful she told that we have to wear a cap and cloth on waist after that we can visit the premises also make sure don't take leather belt and wallet. I'll surely recommend you to visit this place.

Beautiful place in Sangla. Many kings of Kinnaur have rule from here. But the location is not easiy to visit as max cars do not go to the point from where the stairs strats so there will be a treck of 800 mtrs approx and 10-15 stairs to enter Kamru gate where Badri Bishal ji temple is situatedand and then there are more than 80 stairs to reach Kamru fort where Kamru mata temple is situated and one can see the kamru fort as entering in it is prohibited.

To reach the top of Kamru fort one has to climb 150 to 200 irregular steps and have to hike for around half an hour but the view is worth the hike.
The fort is very old and well-maintained, this fort is a perfect example of ancient architecture and construction.
If you love history and architecture then this fort is a must-visit.

Must visit place.
The climb is not very steep and is perfectly doable for mid aged person.
The history of the place and association with the religion makes the places a lively and beautiful destination.
Do not recommend to take cabs. They are costly and the climb itself is not very hard

Very old wooden structure said to be 1000years old and famous for King's oath taking ceremony done here whenever a new king sworn in. Scenic beauty is awesome.

A must visit place to experience the ancient architecture. One has to climb almost 200 stairs to reach the fort but it's worth the climb. The hike will take around 30-45 mins, and the fort remains open till 5: 30 pm.

Worth a visit by foot and driving a car can be tough due to conjusted roads. On the way you will find apple orchards with free samples. Awesome weather and vicinity.

It is a good enough trek. But the main fort which is claimed 1100 year old by locals is unaccessible. As per them only the “royal blood” can access it. Rest there is 800 year old temple (mandir) which is good. I really wanted to see the inside of fort but couldn’t. During my visit weather was quite good. They also told how the current generation of monarchy didn’t take the throne. Mostly because its of no use in complete democracy like india. This place can be visited for sure.

It's a good fort, for this you've to climb around 70-80 stairs to reach here but it's Worth a visit. Wooden carving are superb. It's approx 30 min from sangla bus stand

The workers there are non-co operative. They donot know how to talk to people, and they will make u feel like inferior. You climb to 500 stairs to hear ruthless people. There is not even a water facility for you so that you can climb easily. And after reaching at fort, u would be surprised that the whole process and initiative to reach to fort kamru was useless one.
It is message to government of himachal pradesh, that the lady worker working there has no sense how to talk, even after telling her that some higher govt. Official has come to see the spot.
She was all the time, badtameez.

Old tower is closed due to it's dilapidated condition. The temple in front of the fort does not have any particular character to mention. Only reward is the 270 degree view of Sangla valley from the top.

The ever stunning Kamru Fort stands at an altitude of 2600 meters above sea level and is only 2 km from the beautiful Sangla Valley. The fort is set at a picturesque location and offers tourists beautiful views of the Sangla valley, which was made by Lord Badrinath Ji thousands of year ago. Inside the fort there are about 33 crore (330,000,000) gods and goddess. There is also a shrine to Kamakhya Devi inside the fort campus, which was brought there many years ago from Assam.

Enroute can interact with local people who are very simple and humble

The Fort is located at very high altitude (2600 m above mean sea level), it is dedicated to Hindu Goddess Kamakhya Devi. 2 km from great Sangla valley. So many gates are there. You have to take at least one bottle of water during going towards temple. From top of the fort u can see the beautiful scene of Sangla valley.

The fort is very very small. Also only local people are allowed entry. It is located on hill and requires lot of climbing. Its waste of time and energy.

A place full of History.
Kamru fort is an ancient wooden fort located on a hill a few kilometers from Sangla town. It was the original seat of the Bushahr dynasty that ruled from here. The capital was later shifted to Sarahan and then to Rampur, from where the last king Padam Singh ruled. The entrance to the hill has an arch to demarcate the beginning of the Kamru fort area. There are many families that live within this hill fort and you can see the Kinnauri women doing their every day work and some of the older ones chatting on the steps leading to the fort. Mid-way on the hill is Badri Narayan temple. You see woodcarvings all around when you stand in the middle of this temple complex. From here another flight of steps takes you to gate of Kamru fort where you must wear the Kinnauri cap on your head and a Gachhi around your waist to enter. Main door is closed now and you enter from a side gate. In the center of the complex stands the Kamakshi Devi temple, the idol of this temple is said to have come from the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati. On the right side stands a 5 storey wooden fort. The fort is in dilapidated state and you are not allowed to enter it. The windows at the top of the fort made me want to go there and see the view of the valley around.

This Historical Fort consists of a Buddist Temple, Badrivishal Temple and Kamakya Devi Temple. Needs some effort to climb using the passage from the car parking in the main road.

बहुत शानदार अनुभव, पौराणिक, पुरातन शैली का यह मंदिर अद्भुत है। ये हमारी धरोहरों में से एक शानदार प्रतीकात्मक मंदिरों में से एक है।

It is a good 20 minutes hike from bus stand with history well preserved. Not much information available on history at site. Temple and fort is rich in looks and is great sight to look for.

Excellent Himalayan architecture.symbol of kinnaur and status.it is thought yo be constructed about 1100yrs ago. And all the villages of sangla valley has labored in it's construction.it is around 10-12 story's tall like giant pillar on Rocky ridge in kamroo village.this belongs to King of bushahar riyasat. Raj tilak is done here when prince succeeds the throne.many of many tales and stories are attached to this place.no body is allowed to enter inside this building, but can be allowed to enter ‌Courtyard.only preist of a village goes in on specific days.there is another thing abt this place that here one can find small temple in courtyard which belongs to maa kamakhaya, which has been brought here from assom from unknown period on the direction of King of that period.this building has it's own pride and value.one must must visit this place if one visits kinnaur sangla valley.worth visit ️️

The car only goes up till the gate (300m short of the fort) and then there is walk within the village.the fort itself is beautiful and has a religious significance to as it also houses a khamkhya devi idol which was brought from Assam as per the locals.one can click photographs inside and must be covered.you need to tie a thread which is available there to your waist.the intricate woodwork is beautiful and can be seen on the entrance door itself.
11 दिसंबर 2019 22:56
Amazing place. Really feels like an ancient fort. It's shockingly infamous. Worth visiting once in a while. And yeah, they offer special Kinnaur apples in form of Oblatio (Prasad) which is really really cool. It's built in a very little area but still worth visiting as it has historic value to this place and India.
06 दिसंबर 2019 22:43
It is situated at the top. You have to climb till the top. The view from the top is worthy though. It's fort and temple together. You won't be allowed without cap and belt.
06 दिसंबर 2019 13:42
Not a fort but a temple and very tough for people to climb as there are about 500 stairs.
Most importantly you won't be allowed to enter the fort by the guard if you had non-vegetarian food before visiting the place.
So it would be best to have vegetarian food only before entering the temple.

It is beautiful place to visit in sangla.the temple is very old and the architect is appreciable. But the road is rather defficult to climb for children and elder's.

The ever stunning Kamru Fort stands at an altitude of 2600 meters above sea level and is only 2 km from the beautiful Sangla Valley. The fort is set at a picturesque location and offers tourists beautiful views of the Sangla valley, streams, apple gardens and many more. The entry to the fort is through a series of gates and at the main gate, a stunning image of Lord Buddha is kept to greet the guests. The Kamru Fort is a popular tourist attraction in the region, which is visited by a large number of tourists every day.
The Kamru Fort has a graceful wooden balcony and at the top of the building is an idol of Kamakhya Devi (Kamakshi Devi), which is worth seeing. The idol is believed to have been brought from Guwahati and is of great importance for the people of Sangla village. There is also a Badrinath Temple in the Kamru Fort, which dates back to the 15th century and serves as the venue of a fair, held once every three years in the honor of the deity. In the procession that takes place at the time of fair, the idol of the deity is taken to Gangotri, the origin of the River Ganges.
This stunning fort is enveloped by snow capped mountains, dense forests, and lush green fields and is adorned with beautiful wooden carvings. Kamru is shaped like a tower and is made up of five storeys that rest on a 55 square feet stone platform. The architecture of Kamru Fort is remarkable making it one of the must visit destinations in Sangla, Himachal Pradesh.
The Kamru Fort contains an elegant timber terrace, which is marvelously decorated by timber carvings. Its structural design is noteworthy and should definitely be seen during your trip to Sangla, which is well-connected through road to other major cities of Himachal Pradesh. (Copied)

Nice view of Sangla valley from top but u have to climb for 15 mins to reach fort as cars don't go till top. It's a very small fort (size of a double floor bunglow) and we are not allowed to enter as it's locked for outsiders.

Overall, not a must watch but view is worth.

This is not exactly a fort. It is an old temple. Which you can see only from the outside. As entry inside the temple is prohibited. The temple complex has two more temples which you can see. It can be reached by only by the stairs through the village. Extremely steep. Can be very tiring to aged persons.
25 जुलाई 2019 16:25
As it was explained that the fort was built by the ancestors of Veer Bhadra approximately 1500 years back and is made of rocks and wood. Now the permission inside the fort is not allowed but there is a temple of kamakhya Devi brought from Assam. You may visit that temple. Well the beauty of the place is awesome it is covered from the four sides with snowy mountains. And even the weather is too cool. You may need some jackets if you can not tolerate the temperature of 9 to 18 degrees.
