Laxmi Narayana Temple

A group of various temples located in the heart of Chamba town, Luxmi Nath temple group is of historic important. This group consists of temples devoted to Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman and other deities.

If there is a peaceful place then this temple is the only one. If you come here to Chamba or Himachal then definitely come here.

Laxmi (Laksmi) Narayana Temple, located in Chamba Town, is a Hindu temple built in the 10th century. It was established by the founder of Chamba Town (Raja Shahil Varman) and is the most important temple in the Chamba area.
Laxmi Narayana Temple is the oldest of the six different temples here that line up from north to south. Of the six temples, three are dedicated to Vishnu and three are dedicated to Shiva. These temples are all in the ancient Shikara architectural form.

Must visit temple if you are in Chamba. Few minutes walk from Chamba chaugan. Temple consist many other smaller group of temples within its premises. But it's mainly dedicated to Narayan.

The architecture alone is worth taking a stop. It is still a lesser visited place and we took out a day to walk around, would highly recommend.

Built in the 10th century by Raja Sahil Verman, Laxmi Narayana Temple is the main shrine in Chamba that includes Bimana i.e. Shikhara and Garbhgriha with a small antarala and a mantapa. The temple has wooden chattries and a shell roof at the top to protect against snowfall. There is a wheel shaped roof that helps to protect from cold. It houses a metallic image of Garuda, the mount of Lord Vishnu. It's a beautiful place of great historical implication and architectural marvel. It has a mandapa like structure too. The entire area includes six temples in a row from north to south and is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Vishnu.

Laxmi Narayan Temple is one of the most popular temples of Chamba that is known for its great historical significance and architectural marvel. There are also other temples in the complex like Radha Krishna Temple- built by Rani Sarda (wife of Raja Jit Singh in 1825), Shiva Temple of Chandragupta- built by Sahil Varman and the Gauri Shankar Temple- built by Yugkar Varman (the son of Sahil Varman). There is a Garuda statue in metal watches over the main gate, which is placed by Raja Balabhadra Verma. The latest addition to the shrine in historical periods was in answer to the Mughal terror. Then Aurangzeb the emperor order to demolish the temple and the Raja Chhatra Singh included gilded elevations to the temple in the year 1678.

History The history says that the idol of Lord Vishnu in this temple was made of a rare marble, which was imported from Vindhyachal Mountains. It is believed that the former king of the region- Sahil Varman had sacrificed his eight sons to get the marble and finally his eldest son namely Yugkara succeeded to acquire the marble. In fact, he was too attacked by the robbers but due to a saint, he had saved himself from robbers.

This is centuries old Hindu temple, and I was surprised to see that it's not been marked as a heritage sure by ASI!
It's a beautiful small temple. A small group of devotees were chanting prayers when we went there on a Sunday evening, and it was divine. I enjoyed visiting this temple very much.

A small word of caution is that the entrance to the temple is a steep climb from the main road, so please be prepared for a climb.

This 1000 yrs old temple build by Shailya dynasty is good to visit. Located in Chamba village just 22kms from Khajjiar. The temple architecture is unique and the darshan of the diety offers peace of mind.

Chamba has this set of 5 temples on a hill. You have climb a steep road to reach here.
This place has 5 Mandirs in a line and are still in very good condition.
There is not much information available to read atbthe site, ao better refer before you visit.
Most of them are closed, so you can not actually see inside the garbha griha.
There are kne or two more Mandirs in Chamba town but this is the one, one must visit. The locals often guide you to the other ones first, as they are nearly the main market.

The entrance to this temple Is marked by a beautiful wooden gate. The approach road to this temple, I believe, must be improved in order to make it accessible to a larger audiences. Situated astride the Chamba palace, the temple road is not properly labelled and maintained.

The infrastructure of the temple is very old which makes the temple look very beautiful. The priest was very nice to us. One can feel peace here This place is near Chamba's Chogan.

राजा साहिल वर्मन, जिन्हें 920 ईस्वी में आधुनिक चंबा की स्थापना करने वाला माना जाता है, द्वारा निर्मित लक्ष्मी नारायण मंदिर इस शहर का मुख्य मंदिर है जिसमें छह मंदिरों का एक समूह है। अपने शास्त्रीय रूपों के लिए विख्यात इस मंदिर का निर्माण शिखर शैली में लकड़ी की छतरियों और एक छत के साथ किया गया है। भगवान विष्णु यहाँ के पीठासीन देवता है, और उनके के अलावा मंदिर में गरुड़ पक्षी की एक धातु की मूर्ति भी स्थित है। इस परिसर में अन्य मंदिरों में शामिल हैं राधा कृष्ण मंदिर, जिसका निर्माण रानी शारदा ने 1825 में करवाया था, गौरी शंकर मंदिर जिसे साहिल वर्मन के पुत्र युगकर वर्मन ने बनवाया था, और चंद्रगुप्त का शिव मंदिर जो कि साहिल वर्मन द्वारा बनवाया गया था।

10 century old temple as per the priest of this temple. I visited in the morning at this time we can have experience with local devotees. And we can have a great vibes. After darshan one can have morning hot tea from a nearby tea shop open around 6.0 am.

Situated on the banks of ravi river.chamba is a beautiful hill station.you can have a great view of Himalayas.there are many ancient sites in chamba like magnificent laxmi narayan temple.its a 1000 years old temple built by raja sahil verman.you can reach chamba through pathankot which is the nearest railway station and airport.enjoy the peaks!

I visited many temples of H. P.

Hadimba, Bharmour and Prasher temple but Laxmi Narayan temple has unique kind of serenity and sanctity. These temple having amazing stone xylography.

Temple complex having good vibes, nice for meditation

Temple is beautiful but was unable to take my parents as it's on steep slope.
No Auto rickshaw facility. No cars allowed to drive to door steps.
Disappointed to drive all the way to beautiful Chamba and missed the main attraction.
