The largest fort in the Himalayas and probably the oldest dated fort in India. If you are a history lover, This is a Must visit place if you are at Dharamshala or McLeodganj. Pretty clean and a great place to relax as well
What a wonderfully maintained museum. Unfortunately, the fort was left in ruins after a disastrous earthquake in 1905.but one can experience what it could have been in all it's glory, after taking a walk through the Kangra Fort Museum! Another thing I liked alot was the information written in Braille script infront of all the artifact. Kudos to the efforts taken by the Archeological Survey of India.
This is a good pitstop during a road trip in the region. Great for a 45 min walk around the fort side and the museum makes for a good informative trip. Carrying your snacks and plenty of fluids recommended, limited options due to remote location.
It's so beautiful and fascinating that my kids are jumping with the joy, a different type of construction then my home state Rajasthan forts, but it's so good to see this kind of archeological sites in Himachal
It's amazing, we should definitely have a look at this museum. The fort here also includes Ambika devi temple and Jain temple also said to have Laxmi Narayan temple which was destroyed in the earthquake of 1905
The Kangra Fort was built by the royal Rajput family of Kangra State (the Katoch dynasty), which traces its mythological origins to the ancient Trigarta Kingdom, mentioned in the Mahabharata epic.

Nice place to visit. Museum contains a lot of historical stuff related to the King of KANGRA. It has a beautiful park. Toilet facilities are also there. If you happen to visit fort, go the museum also.
Extremely helpful staff, one could even term zealous. The museum is similar to many government bodes, a tad run down in bits, plastering of exquisite sculpture in silly putty that makes one's heart cringe.yet it is so remarkable to be able to see the expanse of the centuries this wonderful part of the world hides in its dull exterior. Museums are the best way to appreciate old structures, from which only the experts have culled their tales.and condensed for us in places such as this. Quite a gem for a quick afternoon visit to the oft overlooked 'ruined fort'
