Located by the semi frozen streams,  Pin Valley National Park is a rich bio reserve of rare to endangered flora and fauna, which makes it one of the most thrilling places to see in Spiti valley. The Park’s sprawling reserve is home to snow leopards,  snowcocks,  chukar partridges, and Siberian ibex. Many medicinal plants, alpine vegetation, cedar and deodar trees are commonly seen here too. With the backdrop of stunning Himalayas, this Cold Desert Biosphere Reserve is ideal for adventure lovers, photographers, nature enthusiasts, and bird watchers.

The trans-Himalayan terrain is colossal, vast, and unforgiving! Such is its charisma that even a passing conversation on it lightens the eyes of every adventure pro. Rooted in the unforgiving terrains of northeastern Himachal region between the Parvati Valley and Spiti Valley, is Pin Valley National Park! Talk of its naked mountains (summer), infinite vistas (snow-capped peaks in winter), lush biodiversity, and the infinite maze of daunting trails crisscrossing the valley region, and your wanderlust will transport you there at that instant, quite implicitly, if not for real.

Pin Valley is the famed land known as the popular habitat of the snow leopard – the big Himalayan ghost cat that has lured thousands of hopers into a visit, yet eluded them the lone glimpse. With the Great Himalayan National Park on one side and Rupi Bhabha Sanctuary on the other, this part of Northern India can only be reached by road. Another 45 km east from the national park area takes you to Tibet. Being cold desert high altitude are winters are severe and experiences very heavy snow fall in the park area. In general Pin Valley Park area is much moister than Spiti valley. Hence it is very difficult and dangerous to approach the Park during winter season (Dec to Mar). April, May, November and early December are quite good seasons for animal sightings, because during these months the animals occur at lower altitudes. For the people interested in plants and geology, July & August is the best period. For this purpose one should be fully equipped with binoculars, warm clothings, sleeping bags, medicines and sufficient food materials.

Pin valley is the only national park situated in cold desert of Himachal Pradesh. This park is specially renowned for the protection of endangered Snow-Leopard. The severe cold and extreme snowfall in winters may block your route and stop you from reaching this amazing park, so the best time to visit here is summer in between may and july. Conditions are generally cold and dry as the region has always been a cold desert. If you are someone who enjoys the peace and calm of nature and have an appetite for natural beauty along with some dangerous roads and extreme weather then this heavenly site is a must-visit place for you.

The visit to the pin valley is scenic and enjoyable though hardly any wild life visible. It ends at Mudh village all gone solar, but hardly any locals are seen roaming in the village, lots of construction activity going on but the labourers are outsiders.

The Parvati valley, just like the Kullu valley, is one of the most beautiful valleys that you will ever see. It stands up to its name, representing the legendary beauty of Goddess Parvati, the divine consort of Lord Shiva, almost perfectly on the earthly plane. With lush green hills covered with Pine and Deodar on either side of the gushing Parvati river, every bend in your path offers yet another picture perfect view of the distant snow capped peaks. Mantalai is the source of River Parvati and therefore, could also be called the source of the beauty of this valley. For most parts of the journey, you hike along the Parvati river, with the tunes of its gushing waters, gentle here and exuberant there, that will ring in your ears long after you return home from the sacred lake. The trail to Mantalai, situated at 4100 m (13,500 ft) is a challenging trek in itself, involving a significant gain in altitude from the base. It is advised to prepare well before taking up this trek. And if you are an experienced trekker who likes challenging trail then instead of descending back from the lake take the same trail further. You will be on your way to Pin Parvati Pass - which is hands down the most beautiful trek in India and has a place on every trekker's bucket list. Treking to pin Parvati pass involves crossing over to the Pin Valley (Spiti).
