Excellent place to visit, it's a pilgrimage to art enthusiasts, life and times of legend S. Sobha Singh ji is depicted immaculately, must visit place, when one is in Kangra district
Shobha Singh Art Gallery is situated in Andretta Village which is approx 15 km from Palampur city. Shobha Singh was a very fine artist and he migrated from Punjab to Himachal Pradesh where he started working on Kangra Paintings as well.
This Art Gallery displays some of his finest art work like Sohni Mehiwal, Kangra Bride, Her Grace the Gaddan, Heer Ranjha etc etc.
They have a sale counter in the Art Gallery where one can buy his poster paintings with or without frame as per their convenience.
This Art Gallery is located next to the main Andretta Bus stop and their timings would be 9: 30 AM to 5: 00 PM and they charge 20 or 25 rupees INR per person and 50 rupees INR per person from foreigners as an entry fee (I am not very sure about it, it's been quite a long time since I have been to an art gallery). Currently his grandchildren or Great Grand children are taking care of it.
Apart from paintings they have kept Sculptures as well which were made by him. Also they show you his room where he used to sleep and spend most of his time along with his collection of items.
A very well maintained place with original things used by the family. The old sewing machine, utensils of old style, photos with famous people, old hand written postcards
This place has an aura of its own and you feel it the moment you step inside this quaint gallery. Sobha Singh ji became famous when he painted Guru Gobind Singh ji on canvas and that's one iconic painting. The second one, which got popularity amongst many others is Sohni Mahiwal. A must visit, even if you aren't an art lover. This will surely mesmerize you
Nice place with a great history. Andretta village was brought on the artist map of the world by Sobha singh. Worth a visit - combine your visit here with the pottery museum and workshop.
The art gallery displays some of the finest work of Sobha Singh, which include portraits of Sohni-Mahinval and Hir-Ranjha. I really in love withthis art gallery.
This is the house of world famous painter S. Sobha Singh which is turned to museum in his memories. A very peaceful place I enjoyed alot to visit there. Thanks to the family of S. Sobha Singh g who are keep intact his memories very carefully. I request to the caretakers please arrange washroom here fir visitors.
Must visit place for anyone travelling to Palampur, Dharamshala-McLeod Ganj or Kangra. The paintings on display are breathtaking.
Photography inside the museum, which was the actual residence of artist Sobha Singh Ji, is understandably not permitted. But if you visit, besides the paintings you’ll also get to see his studio where he painted along with his last painting, and his and his wives bedroom. All in excellent condition.
This place is the epitome of art and history preserved together. I would love to visit this place again. Though they should allow photography there but nonetheless my experience was really amazing.
It was a nice experience visiting this place. The staffs are very friendly and ambience is pretty good. Recommend every one to visit this place at least for once.
A loving family running a private museum in memory of one of India's greatest 20th century painter and sculpture. This place is perfect to travel back in time and see the lifestyle of a painter in a quiet Kangra village preserved to perfection. Also, they have a litchi tree in-house, which they were very kind to share with us during our last visit. A shop in the premises sell everything popular locally, be it Kangra tea leafs or handmade pottery. We suggest you take a small paper quilling workshop on the sides from the family.
You'd travel back in time for sure if you are inspired by art and artists. To see how humble an artist and his abode was, how he used to live, will definitely send you back in that era.
The museum and gallery is well preserved. However, it looked like some paintings might have been damaged long back and the artist who did the patch work on the canvas was not able to do justice to the paintings.
This gallery and museum is a treasure and more care/funds must be sanctioned to preserve it. Professional artists must be engaged for any retouching / patchwork and to preserve other artifacts.
The place is tranquil and quiet. It's like a window to the past. You're immediately exported to the pristine, serene and sublime world of the great artist who once lived at the same place, breathed the same air and produced unparalleled works of art.
If you have always felt that you appreciate art but lack the talent of expressing it yourself, however, wish to see the world from the eyes of a great artist, please do visit this place once. Look at the studio and the small table and windows and you'd feel like you've become friends with the great Sobha Singh.
Awesome experience visiting the Great Sobha Singh's house. His work station and room is preserved just as it was. N his original paintings are totally out of this world!
An artist that I had been unaware of until recently. The gallery is well maintained though i would have preferred to have a look at some more of the artists works. My favourite paintings of his were Sohni Mahiwal, Bhagat Singh and his self portrait. The Museum is located above the gallery which shows his artistic journey & his achievements along with his personal quarters & studio housed within it. Unfortunately they dont allow any pictures to be taken but while in Andretta visiting Sobhaji's gallery is only rational.
Perfect insight to what Sobha Singh's life was and the impact he created on the society with his art.
Museum is very well maintained and is so aesthetically beautiful too.
Though the content is quite less as it's about one's life, but it was an amazing experience getting up close with Sobha Singh's life, and the old artefacts of the colonial period makes the trip even more interesting and informative
Small place for an exhibition but that is artists own home which is converted. Artist Sobha singh was a painter n sculptor. Never knew he was awarded by indian government for his work. Some of his old stuff that he used is kept there. Ticket INR 20/person. It is right out on the lane of andretta pottery school.
The place has few of the first paintings from the Sikh History. The place is not well developed and is still privately run by the family of Sardar Sobha Singh Ji. You cannot click pictures inside the gallery and their is a small ticket fee to visit
This place is very beautiful. Art gallery is situated in my own village. And the village is also known as artist village. There is also well sceinere from the top of forest
A neatly kept gallery maintained by the painter's family. The house cum gallery is on the main road itself. There's a small hall with few of his paintings along with a curio shop. The lane opposite will take you inside Andretta village.
Best art gallery in Himachal Pradesh, between the ranges of dhauladhar, and my home town also, Named after the great Artist Sobha Singh who made One of the famous painting named as Kangri Dulhan.
A temple in the memory of the legend Sardar Sobha Singh, the place is maintained by the immediate family members of the artist. The place is well preserved and maintained. A must visit for anyone who wants to know how we know what the Sikh gurus look like. Sobha Singh was the person who painted our imaginary canvas in this respect. Famous works include the Sohni Mehwal, Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and portraits of all the major Sikh gurus.
A pretty amazing art gallery which has pictures painted by Sobha singh, it contains some iconic paintings, it also contains some belongings of the artist. If you visit Palampur, then you should definitely visit it
A must visit for everyone who goes to Kangra side but specially for someone who knows a little bit about sikh history and folk lores, entry ticket Rs 25/-, Kindly make one functional wash room at least for ladies
Good collection of original paintings painted by Sobha Singh. Anyone in love with Indian art understands the importance and contribution of Sobha Singh and will appreciate a glimpse into the daily life of the artist. There is a museum of artists' daily artifacts inuding his original bed, painting accessories, room in the same state as he left on the day of his death and other unique personal artefacts.
The place displays the life and works of Sardar Sobha Singh at the residence of the artist. The displays have been meticulously maintained. Those interested in arts/ works of the artist would definitely find a visit to this place worthwhile.
