A must visit if you are in shimla no matter how far you are from the temple just go there once and you will never regret, if you are looking for some amazing pictures this is the go to place if you are a religious person its a must visit and if you want to feel the beauty of the nature and want to have a scenic view this is the go to place, there is no entry fee but make sure to maintain dignity and not to make the place dirty, avoid taking leather wallets and belts inside the temple, the best way to reach the temple is vie your personal car but if you want to take the bus there is a bus which go from old bus stand to Tara Devi temple from 1pm and the last bus which comes back from the temple is at 4pm there is no bus stand up there so keep the timings in mind, the place has really soothing ambience and in our case it was directly visible from our hotel room, hence must visit Jai tara devi ma.

I was a beautiful temple of maa tara known as taradevi, you will see the beautiful scenery of shimla city from here!

Beautiful and very spiritual temple. Built on the top of tata parvat. 250 years old and situated at 1851 meter high from the sea level. Car parking is available. It is around 11 km from Shimla. The view from the top is awesome and mesmerizing. Bus services are available. You can Also go by your own vehicle but try it if you have full confidence in your driving. Most adventurous driving track.

Despite the high number of visitors the temple has a peaceful and a divine vibe. An added bonus is the bird's eye view of the hills from the temple. Afternoons are a bit crowded with people lining up for Bhandara but overall the place is well maintained.

The temple is very beautiful built. The wooden architecture inside the temple is gorgeous. The view from the temple is great.

Tara Devi temple is one of the most visited religious places in Shimla. It is installed at a height of 7200 feet above sea level and situated around 11 km away from Shimla city. Only HRTC Buses plys from the old bus stand to the temple top or if you have your own ride then it's fine. There is a old Shiva temple just 1.5km away from the Tara devi temple inside the deep forest of the mountain.

Tara Devi temple was built by Sen dynasty kings sometime around 1766 A. D.  The fort of Giri Sen is still there in Junga. According to a story which traces back to 250 years the king Bhupendra Sen built the temple and after he had a vision in which Goddess Tara Devi asked him to install a template there so that people could get her blessings. He also installed a wooden statue of Goddess there.

Later, King Balbir Sen had a vision of Goddess Tara where she asked him to install the temple on Tarav hill top. The king did the same and also erected an idol of Goddess made up of “Ashtadhatu”, a mix of eight precious elements. The idol was carried on an element named Shankar.

During festivals like Dussehra and Durga Ashtami, a huge feast is arranged which is attended by a large number of devotees. It becomes very difficult to visit the temple during snowfall and rainy season.

Tara Goddess in Hinduism and Buddhism is second of the Ten Great Wisdoms called ‘Mahavidyas’ and is known to be a source of all energies. The word ‘Tara’ is derived from Sanskrit root ‘tr’, which means to cross. The word ‘tara’ also means star in many Indian languages.

The  template has the backdrop of the Himalayas. There are forests on one side and roads on another.

It is believed that Goddess Tara was brought to the lap of Himalayas in Himachal from West Bengal in the 18th century. According to some people, being the Goddess of stars, she watches over everyone from the skies and showers her blessings.

The temple is open for visit from 7 AM to 6: 30 PM on all days. It takes around 2 hours[11] to visit the place. Around 12000 to 15000 devotees[12] visit the temple on weekends and there is no entry fee.

Tara Devi is the most visited temple in Shimla Region. Peaceful very well maintained and recommend to visit once at least. You can see complete Shimla from this one place. Even Lower Himalayas Ranges Too

Decent peaceful place. Well built and maintained. You can also trek to the Shiva temple which is 1.5kms from this temple. Never gets crowded. A place to enjoy viewn and all.

Located on a hilltop outside Shimla town, the temple is accessible by road with a brief climb at the very end, which shouldn't be a big deal. It's location provides for 360 degree views that still mesmerise me, even though I'm a local and have visited the temple countless times. Can be fairly windy, so would be wise enough to carry an extra layer if the weather isn't too friendly. Like most of Shimla, this temple also has a lot of monkeys around which usually won't bother anyone unless they sight or sense eatables. So best would be to carry them concealed in a bag.

Dating its history back to 250 years, the temple has an interesting mythological story behind its origin. According to the popular belief, the idol of Goddess Tara was brought from West Bengal to Himachal Pradesh.

It is generally said that a King from the Sen dynasty had once come to this area along with a small idol of his personal family deity in the form of a gold locket. He used to wear this ornament in his upper arm. While hunting in and around the dense jungle of Juggar, he forgot his path to go back home and fell asleep. While sleeping, he dreamt that Goddess Tara and her gatekeepers Lord Hanuman and Bhairav requested him to unveil them to people.

Immediately, the Maharaja decided to fulfil the desires of Ma Tara and donated about 50 bighas of land to construct the temple. Thus, a temple was built there with a wooden idol of the deity for people to pray and seek blessings.

After some years, another king of the same dynasty had a vision in which the Ma Tara wished to be on the hill top of Tarav Parvat. Soon, the temple was shifted there and a magnificent idol, made of “Ashtadhatu” was installed in a grand ceremony in the year 1825. Since then, the members of Sen dynasty follow the old traditions and worship their family Goddess on the Asthami day every year.

Best place to visit. One should spend couple of hours meditation, fresh air, good food and beautiful views from top make it a must visit place. Blessing from the Tara Mata is what one should get while visiting any near by tourist place.

Awesome place with stunning views. Almost all shimla is visible from this temple. You need to be careful while driving on the way to temple, as the road is very steep and small. Temple is well. Maintained and you can easily spend 1 hr there.

Very peaceful and beautiful place. With amazing view, it is one of the best sun set point, I've ever been. Phone camera doesn't do the justice to sunset.
There are two ways to reach there, either you can choose to with a vehicle thru sugi or you can go by trek which is really really good, the trail is good for beginners and few places with good scenic views.

Early morning arti was heavenly. First day of Navratra and blessings from goddess felt that we will be safe. The view of Shimla hills was also beautiful.

If u visit shimla you must visit tara Devi temple. Here you'll get the best view of the whole shimla. You may also see that tall statue of lord hanuman.

The renovated temple complex is made in lines of traditional pahari culture with majority of construction done by using local material and architecture. Highly revered goddess Tara is known to bless prosperity and harmony. There place is very serene and langar is held on every Sunday and Tuesday.

Cold breeze, Ghanti Ki awaj with natural view and sunset view is something to experience from here.

Super se upar! The temple was full of energy as there was full of peace and psople were chanting mantras and bell sound along with a man playing local instument called dhol-damo. This tample was plastic less and I hardly see any plastic being used there. I ejoyed the meal they provide, 4 time they offer different taste and it was great to experiance that. As I started walking down, I enjoyed the jungle walk a lot.must visit such divine place.

This temple is situated in the small town of Shoghi which is just some kilometres from the Capital of Himachal Pradesh i.e. Shimla. The temple is a holy place for Hindus and as the name denotes it is the temple of goddess Tara Devi. It has been recently inaugurated by the Himachal Government and is situated on the top of the mountain.

The temple after renovation in 2017 looks very impressive, neat and clean with fantastic views as the temple is on peak of high altitude.

A very nice place, view of valleys from top of the hill is beautiful. Vehicles go to top of the hill, but can also be visited through an old road (mini trek) 5-6 kms with some steps and inclines suitable for all ages.

Steep inclined road. But it was thrilling. Once reached the top it was serene. Went there late.around 7: 15pm. No crowd. Temple is well maintained and clean. Did some shopping from the shops in temple complex. Coming back was easier. All in all a good short stay of 30 min at the temple.

A revered temple of Godess Tara, very beautiful temple at top of the hill. Bhandara goes.on every Sunday, Tuesdays and sometimes on Saturdays. On Sundays there is large crowd gatherings at the temple. One can drive own vehicle from Shoghi up steep road with many U-turns. Not much shelter available during rains.

Serene and beautiful place. Beware of monkeys. Sometimes you may be lucky enough to have Bhandara here. Public transport on summer days is easily available but can't say the same about winter season.

This holy temple situated at hill top surrounded by natural beauty, trees, flowers, clean environment, fresh and rejuvinating air, immense peace is found everywhere.

It's a steep uphill drive. Temple is right on top of the hill and has beautiful views. Structure is made of wood and stone and is clean and pretty. Even after you reach the top in a car, you need to walk a few flights of stairs to reach the temple. So not for people with leg/ heart problems. Though there are seats at every level so one can rest or take a break and go up.

The upwards climb is pretty arduous but once you reach the top, you have a sight to behold. It is absolutely brilliant looking and well maintained. A must visit place for peace lovers. Valley view is awesome. You can reach there by your private vehicle or by cab. Public bus service is also available from shoghi bus stand. In stairs of temple be aware of monkey. Better have a stick with you.
