Must visit for solo or a group of friends. We've been the bunker just once and can't wait to to get back again. Wonderful new friends and memories. Their live music with barbecue nights and bonfire are totally worth it. Special mention to Jai for helping us with a smooth transition.
Being the first hostel in Dharamkot, the Bunker warrants one of the best locations and views, right in the laps of the hills. Having visited their Bir property and falling completely in love with it, I had to visit the Dharamkot property and it was exactly what I had imagined and more. Warm and friendly staff, good food and cosy common areas are some of the aspects that would want you to keep extending your stay. Sanjeev, their property manager and chef, will go out of his way to ensure you have the most comfortable stay. There are also a great deal of cafes right around the property with amazing choices of food. All in all, MUST VISIT.
Wondering what new place to stay has to offer, stayed in Bunker and felt like authentic, warm, relaxed feeling all over the place. The ambience and the people are gems of this place. A place to stay among beauty of nature. Hoping to come visit again! See yaa
This stay will forever have a special place in my heart. I'll always remember Bunker as a place where I met amazing people, made great friends, heard incredible stories and shared unforgettable moments.
Bunker's is one of the places that I want to return to. Its placed in the beautiful surrounding of Dharmakot village, a walk of 2kms from where the auto or cab would drop you, very near to Zostel. The rooms are extremely well maintained. I was in one of the dorms, during my vacation. The food at Nomad's Cafe (right on top of Bunker's) was amazing. I bet there is no other combo in chilly weather and hot chocolate. The view of Bunker's was mesmerizing, still afresh.
This was my first experience of living the hostel life and it truly was an unforgettable one cause a trip that was planned for 7 days got extended to 11 days all because of the people at Bunker. Spoke to Ashish before arriving at bunker to know about places to visit & shoot and I was sent the itinerary within minutes of the call ending. From airport to bunker we were in constant touch with Nihad who helped us with the transport and made sure we were safe. Within a short hour of arriving at Bunker we were living the #bunkerlife by hiking to sunset cafe. They made us feel like their own. Being an aspiring Youtuber they made sure I had lots to cover & literally went leaps and bounds to get me my content. We were a dorm of 4 girls and we felt so safe particularly on the Christmas Eve when we had 4 men creating ruckus at the premises. They were loud (playing song when there is an artist singing) & wouldn’t respect people & had a little too much to drink. Bunker management didn’t entertain this and those 4 men were sent packing at that very moment. Special mentions: Sanjeev & kitchen staff for the best food & hot chocolate Isha & akshay- for making us feel like friends & less like guests Jai- for making sure we did those treks & Hikes & making sure we all had the best time & lived every moment of #bunkerlife
When you stay at Bunker you experience Upper Dharamkot like it’s your own neighborhood and that’s something I truly feel that’s unique & something to definitely experience. Cause this is what differentiates a Traveller from tourist & hotels from hostels.
What an amazing location and amazing hospitality! This place the views around is heaven Also.the bonfire and music was cherry on cake Must stay here if you need some peace out of this chaotic world
This is hands down the best hostel in Dharamshala. My recommendation to anyone planning a Himachal trip is that you check into Bunker at least once. Also, don't miss all the desserts at this beautiful bakery nearby called Birdhouse Cakery. They have desserts that will simply melt in your mouth!
Everything about this place is AWESOME! A must stay at bunkers if you're planning a trip to dharamkot. Kudos to all the people managing and always keeping the vibe so high

1. The place is not easily accessible. You have to park your vehicle far from this place. 2. The place and ambience was great. 3. The hosts are chill and friendly people. 4. A must stay place if you're up for treks.
Not suitable for family, which the caretaker Mr. Ashish easily didn't disclose, we had to find out after arriving at the venue. Very disappointed. Suitable for individuals for recreation etc.
Good and affordable place to chill, relax and awesome food. Nice view of triund, dharmkot and Dharamshala. News to track about 1-2 km uphill to reach this place. Adjacent to zostel.
The best place to stay in Mcleodganj. The best part is the nomad cafe above the hostel. You can chill here throughout the day and you won't get bored ever.
Bunker hostel is a very awesome place to stay. It is the places like I want, peaceful and full of nature. It is a bit far from Mcledooganj market but it's worth to stay there. It's in upper dharamkot village and it tool around 40-45 mins walk or trek to reach their, You can hire a cab (Rs 200) or auto (Rs 150) but they will drop you a point and from their it is only 300-400 m. It is far better from Zostel because bunker hostel is like a full window of nature. View from Bunker hostel is magical.
Staff member is so good and friendly. Sanjeev, shantanu and nidhi all are very good people. I enjoyed a lot their. I am a freelancer and it is just become my dream to stay there for months and do my work in the lap of nature. Wifi and mobile network is good there. My 2 new friends are also there Sky and Bhurji (dogs)
It's very amazing place to stay with group of friends. Owners of this place are very supportive and helpful. We checked in early still owner gave us the place to stay. Food here is awesome compared to other local restaurants. Comfortable and clean rooms and huge hall with painting and books makes you feel very positive. I look forward to visit again this place and create one more the bunker story
Loved my stay in this homely hostel! Dharamkot will now always be a place close to my heart because of the amazing stay and hikes that I had with the bunker hostel. Every morning almost surrounded by 5 dogs or so, was like a dream home scene. Glad, I chose to stay here. It is even at a walking distance from the dharamkot market and an easy hike away from mcloedganj. -The Iffy Explorer
I spent 3 days at The Bunker Dharamkot, living #TheBunkerLife, and it turned out to be one epic weekend. Its literally a home away from home, and Ashish and the team, make it a point to go out of their way, to ensure that the travellers have an amazing experience.
Ashish wanted to create a space, which was away from the city, in the lap of nature, and have a vibe of its own. And that is exactly what he did!
Being a traveller we make sure to travel in budget and also enjoy our journey. So we start with accomodations search and then all the activities we will do in that place. So this time on my list is Himachal Pradesh and particularly Dharamshala. So i did my search and ended it on this amazing hostel known as The Bunker hostel. They provide bunk bed rooms and also private room. The rooms were super clean and maintained by the staff. They provide in house food as they have a rooftop cafe in hostel. The hostel also provide treks to Triund and waterfalls. The food was delicious and totally well cooked by the talented chefs. Bonfire is also done on weekend or some time on weekdays as well. The bunker rooms cost from ₹450-650 and private room cost 1800-2000 in season. So overall a great place to chill and enjoy your dharamshala time. I am coming here again very soon. Cheers.
This place is not just a hostel but a home. The owner, Ashish and the Bunker team, they make sure you get the experience that you needed. You'll literally be in the lap of nature, away from the crowd and the noise. This is a place you have to experience if you're searching for something but don't know what.
Lovely location. The fotos don't do it justice. The bonfire area and the garden is just too pretty. The food was also good but their hot chocolate was to die for. Steal the chef kind. Bathrooms were clean, hot water is slow though. The dorms are mixed, which is not specified, but they ensured they only put females in my dorm when I specifically asked them to do so. Good chiller people.
Seeking a place away from the Touristy Mcleodganj: Bunkers is the place.
This hostel is a home away from Home, right from the Dorms to rooftop. The Dogs are a family member over here: Oreo, Tazz, Rain, & my favorite name Anda Bhurji.
The food is absolutely amazing and it feels cherry on top enjoying them over a group of strangers on the rooftop cafe.
Bunkers did not give me a stay, it gave me an experience.:)
A fun place to get away from the maddening crowd. It's a short distance from McLeod Ganj, but so much quite and closer to nature. As a backpackers hostel it offers all the basic amenities one would need.but the hosts Ishaan and Ashish to above and beyond to make your stay perfect.
A little hard to reach spot but it's totally worth it, the rooms are nice and clean with proper bedding and blankets, the best thing about this place is the service, the food is delicious with a lot of options.
It was the best place I stayed in India. Isham and Naddi are so nice and helpful that I felt like being in home. Every evening we could get together at the Cafe on the roof and talk, play cards, meet and get to know each other. That's a pity that a have such a long travel from Poland to get to the place like that!
Room was clean, water hot during the shower most of the times, food is amazing.
Couldn't find a better place to stay. Really clean rooms, great food, such a beaitiful place. Also the people running it are super. Really friendly, reallly helpful. Loved it there.
This hostel will always have a special place in my heart because of the many good memories I carry from my stay with them. The facility is well maintained and clean at all times. The food there is amazing no matter if it is breakfast or dinner, everything is delicious. But to me what made this place so special were the hosts and the many interesting travellers that I met while being there. Worth to mention that during Diwali celebration they prepared a huge meal and many different typical sweets that they do for the occasion, and shared their special day and traditions with all of us that were staying that night at the hostel and made us feel like being part of the family. Many thanks for that! Hugs from this cuban girl!
I've lived here for far too long, volunteered here, worked here and am slowly coming to bid adieu. And I write this review not as someone who is a part of the Bunker family, but as a backpacker, who ended up here last year, lost and confused, looking for a safespace to call home. There's no dearth of reasons to fall in love with this place. Besides the clean and cozy dorms and the delicious food - both affordable for a budget backpacker, it is the vibe of this place that made me stay. The guys who started this place are backpackers themselves and no wonder that they made sure other people who find their way here are well taken care of. This is a hostel by all means, not a resort or a high-end hotel, and yet the amount of care and comfort here make up for all the luxury and bootlicking a five-star could have given me.
More pros - located away from the noise and crowd, loads of doggie cuddles, bestest coffee, lots and lots of music (they've got the most instruments I've seen in a space like this before), an excellent collection of books, lots of quiet space and yet someone always there, if you need a person to talk to. On a clear night, don't be surprised to look up and find the outline of the milky way. And if you want some story telling sessions, join the staff during bonfire evenings and they'll make sure to keep you entertained.:)
Con (s) - vehicles don't reach up here, so you'll have to walk for about a 100 metres to get here from the parking. If you want my honest opinion, that actually isn't a con because this place makes it worth the walk.
Absolutely loved the place.a warm and friendly environment. The caretakers are very responsive and helpful.the location is also just perfect.would definitely come back again and totally recommend it if you're planning a weekend getaway to mcleod/dharamkot
