Nice and peaceful place. No specific timings mentioned. Surrounded by Tibetans. It was locked in morning at 11: 30am. They opened on request for visit.
The place is located too far from Solan City. But the view is amazing. The inside of this temple is amazing. Checkout my vlog. "Traveling Barog". You will see everything about it.
Peacefull place. However I don't know their culture but they are good people. The monastery is located in a university. The road to reach here (about 4-5km) is in a very poor condition.
Nestled in the picturesque hills of Ganyar, Himachal Pradesh, Menri Monastery is an awe-inspiring gem. Its serene surroundings, vibrant Tibetan culture, and profound spirituality captivate visitors. From the enchanting rituals to the warm hospitality, a visit to Menri Monastery is a truly transformative and soul-nourishing experience.
Beautiful monastery deep in the hills. The only minus is the approach road to the monastery. Anyway worth a visit. Lamas there were friendly and willing to explain the details of the religious practices followed by them.
Place is manifested with unique Buddhist architecture and culture. It has a beautiful view around. It has huge building with that ancient touch and you can find monks studying, chanting together at specific times. Though the route to reach this place is very rough with lots n lots of pot holes.
I have some questions. What town is the closest to stay? Do I need a special permit to enter the monastery? If I travel by train from Delhi to which town did I arrive? Thank for you opinions.
In 1967, Menri was refounded at Dolanji in Himachal Pardesh by Lungtok Tenpayi Nyima and Lopon Tenzin Mandak, basically it is Tibbtian Temple and represent Mahatma Budh, in this place you find peace of mind, a must visit place in Himachal Pardesh.
One of the oldest buddhist monasteries in India, the Menri Monastery is one of the most colorful places in Solan. It is so peaceful here that one wouldn't want to leave from here. The monastery is very beautiful and a pin drop silence here makes it an even more likeable place to be.
Road to the monastery is narrow and not in good condition still all the efforts to reach there are worth it. One can either take one's own vehicle to the monastery or take a local bus to Kalaghat and trek for around 4 kms to reach the monastery. If you visit during monsoons, you will find many small water streams on the way that add beauty to the trek.
It was such a beautiful and peaceful place to be. The place is kept in a proper way. The positive vibes there were amazing. We spent nearly 2 hours enjoying the place and its surroundings. Nature at its best.
A good place. You can feel good and positive vibes here. One of the oldest monasteries in India. Named on the Bon Monastery in Tibet which is refounded in INDIA.
Road is very rough, monestery is like any other. Our interaction with one of representative made it memorable, we had hours long discussion about life, purpose of soul, how to make balance in life, peace/ happiness, meditation, got the chance to see life from monk perspective!
This place is Buddhist temple for peace lovers. Then monks will explain about the temple till u grap the satisfaction. It's around 15 km from solan by taxi or auto. It will cost nearly Rs 520/-.
Tourists may not know about this place of worship in Sirmour district. Around an hour's drive from Solan.
This is abode to the religion named Bon, which I am sure, not many people have heard about. We could witness graduation examination of priests, with proper questions and answers.
Time well spent and gained knowledge about Bon religion and traditions.
Food at Tsering was very sumptuous. We had Momos and Chowmein and then black tea. All homemade. Superb and authentic taste. The owner was gentle and polite.
Dolanji is an area near Solan in Himachal Pradesh, India. It is famous for its Bon Monastery, which one of the main tourist attractions in the Sirmour district.
The Menri Monastery is situated at 16 km from Solan bus stand. You need to take ochghat kalaghat road to reach monastery. It is a very peaceful & calm place. You won't find much crowd or traffic even on weekends here as this is not so commonly known place even for residents of near by cities e.g. Panchkula, Chandigarh, Pinjore etc. You may interact with KIDS and monks who all study in the school situated with in monastery premises. Over all it was a good experience visiting this place.
The Menri Monastery of Himachal Pradesh is considered to be one of the oldest monasteries of the World. The Monastery was constructed during the reign of Songtsan Gambo and belongs to the Bon sect which is an indigenous branch of Tibetan Buddhism. Its a beautiful place to learn about Buddhism and exploring nature in the peace and calm environment.
The Monanstery is constructed over a hill and so there is a flight of stairs that you have to climb to reach to the main temple. And if you ae going to spend a full day there, you will witness the daily prayers/rituals being performed by the monks, where the soulful holy chants fused with music of the instruments, nourishes your soul and gives you peace and satisfaction.
The connecting road to the Monastery is a bit tricky one so a good driver is required to reach the place. There are some sharp turns and some some steep slopes so plan wisely. But once you reach there you will be rewarded with the beautiful views of nature.
This place is very good calm and relaxing but closed from last 3-4 months due to renovation work. The main building is under construction which is donated by two japanese companies and one indian company you can enjoy best food Tibetan food, atta momos, superb tea, thupka, noodles etc
Menri Monastery (Tibetan: སྨན་རི་, Wylie: sman ri — "medicine mountain") is the name of a Bon monastery in Tibet that has been refounded in India. The name derives from the medicinal plants and medicinal springs on the mountain. [1] Menri became the leading Bon monastery in the Tibetan cultural region. The abbot of Menri is recognized as the spiritual leader of Bon.
A place of worship, mainly for Buddhists, located about 18-20 Kms away from Solan City/Town of Himachal Pradesh towards Solan- Rajgarh Highway. At the time of my visit, the Monestry main temple was closed. However, a very scenic nature is spread all around the place. A GPS support would be advisable from Solan itself to reach the Monestry without loosing right track time and again.
Quite and beautiful place. But very very difficult to reach. Reaching this place will test your deriving skills for sure. The main hall was closed due to covid19 but rest was open. A one time must visit place. Colorful flags everywhere. And a good devine feeling. One monk talked with us and told us that is an institute for monks and temple.
The Menri means that, the mountain of medicine. Now it is relocated in the northern part of India. It is the mother monastery Yungdrung Bon tradition. And indigenous religion of Tibet. The main monastery is in central Tibet. The place of peace.
Menary Monestry Solan. One of the oldest monasteries in India, the Menri Monastery is one of the most colorful places in Solan. Visit the monastery to celebrate calmness, spirituality and Buddhism in this commercial town of Solan.
The monastery houses a large statue of Lord Shenrab Mibo. The monastery is a center of much festivity, color and vibrance during the New Year's Eve, when Cham or the Bon Dances are performed here. This would be on of the best times to visit the monastery. The vibrant colors and the spiritual vibes the place features will become the highlight of your visit to Solan. The major attraction in the monastery is the statue of Lord Shenrab Mibo it houses.
It is separated from the lite crowd of Solan situated in dolanjhi, a quite place to visit, I would suggest visit before 12 or 1 pm and do go by your personal vehicle. Buses are available till kalaghat (ahead of ochghat). Monastery is approx 2km ahead in dolanjhi road, personal vehicle would be good.
The monastery is situated in shirmor district of himachal Pradesh very near to ochghat solan, one can get bus to monastery from solan it self the frequency of buses are low so if some one is planning to go to monastery, the better time is early morning so that u can cover monastery and come back in time. The place is very peaceful, its a monastery plus education centre also where they teach buddisht philosophy. Great time to invest, one time u can check this.
It’s a peaceful place surrounded by Mountains. They doors of the main temple open only at specific times like 2 pm. Monks are very helpful. They let me you roam around freely and see their culture. Try to maintain the silence. 1-2 hours will be enough to visit the entire place.
This was the most peaceful monastery I have ever visited. There are 300+ monks over there and many children but trust me there was pin drop silence in whole premises. This is not a Buddhist monastery, it's a Bon Monastery which was a separate religion. Bon Monks wear dark maroon with blue gowns whereas Buddhist monks wear red and white gowns. It's a must visit place and offers such beautiful views.
Very beautiful monastery near Solan city (15 km approximately). Yes it is surrounded with mountains. Greenery all over the place. You can experience peace by doing meditation there. It takes around 2 hours to visit the whole place. One should visit there to know about the culture of monastery. You can find some small shops to enjoy fast food (momos, noodles).
Very good Monastery, easily accessible with a very informative and friendly monk of the Bon sect of Buddhism, good momos and veg chowmein outside the monastery
Nice place for soul searching. Road to monastery is narrow and not in good condition. Still all the efforts to reach there is worth it. Respect the rituals of the Monastery.
