The Unmad

Though didn’t stay there but the rooms looked very fine. Location and atmosphere around here is simply wonderful. Mouthwatering food. Highly recommend.

Excellent host. Great food. The breakfast is amazing. Getting to the rooms is a task though. Be prepared to huff and puff your way up to the rooms. But the views are worth it. Excellently located with a hidden trek up to the main road and to Gallu Temple, starting from right next to the rooms.

The place depends of your plans, if you want to trecking or spend mos of the time in Dharamkot. You have like three level stairs or mor, you have to take it into account

I m staying this hotel first time, the experience was good and good food, very good service i, I have good vibes and i will try to come again this hotel.

Like every other traveller, my focus was good location, not too far not too close to the market, good food and a room with a view. Needless to say I got all in this place. But something that no traveller can be sure of is the hospitality. I was travelling solo but still felt like I had a group of friends with me. The owners, staff, everybody is so friendly and helpful, their energy vibrates across the space. The cafe area is almost like a living room where all the guest get together and eat as friends and family. I felt sad leaving this place even after just 5 days being there!

Staying here made me feel at home. Can't say good enough about Krishna and Apana for the amazing hosts they are! They go far and beyond to help out in anything you need. Believe me, Unmad hostel is made from heart and soul!
In the area, everywhere you go here there are stairs and hills so you might as well just stay where you get the best view, away from the confusion of down dharamkot or bagshu. Unmad is perfect place for a calm and relax staying with outstanding view, great company or just to be with yourself! The rooms are super welcoming, well arranged and clean, with given attention to details like a water catle, soaps, towels, books and anything else you may need there's always a solution here! WiFi connection very good!
Food is delicious! The vibe is amazing! And I can't talk good enough about this place! It is with no doubt a great price for the quality and warmth that is given.

The hotel is run by a nice couple however it is not meant for families. We stayed here 3 nights (precooked) and will not repeat the hotel for sure.

1. The hotel is a steep 50-60 stairs climb from motorable road.
2. It’s located in upper Dharmkot a steep climb even from Himalyan Tea Shop/Vipassana Centre so every commute will charge extra.
3. There is no generator so if electricity goes you are at the mercy of electricity department. On the 2nd night there was no electricity for 12 hours. They did provide 1 bucket of hot water in the morning on asking. They also did not charge for the heater for that night.
4. If you ask for cloth hangers, the owner will ignore your message.
5. If you are paying Rs 3000 per night and the outside temperature is 6 degrees and you ask for a heater you will be charged Rs 400 extra per night.
6. If you have a kid and you ask for a extra bath towel, you won’t get it as the hotel doesn’t have any spares.
7. Everything is prepared fresh including breakfast so be ready to wait a good 40-45 minutes after ordering every meal.
8. If you give keys to clean your room and forget to mention clean bathroom only room will be cleaned.
9. If you ask to change bath towels each day only bath towels will be changed and not hand towel.
10. If you look around you will bind backpackers mostly foreigners and no other family.
In short if you are a family looking even for little bit of luxury this place is not for you.

I fell in love with this place! Aparna & Krishan are the most welcoming & kindest people!
The rooms are very spacious, clean & beautifully decorated. You can enjoy the mountain view either from a little patio or a balkony, hear the birds singing in the morning when the sun rises.
Its also a nice starting point for exploring the area through hikes, temple visits, etc.
They just opened a cute café on the terrace where you can also enjoy some chai & food or a nice talk.
Anything that was needed (Tips for hikes, temples, Transport) Aparna was very helpful & knowledgeable.
If you are looking for a heartwarming, quiet place with lovely people & beautiful mountains views: this is the place!

Unmad is a Vibe! Well we have stayed at a variety of places in Himachal but never came across suchha a warm and friendly guests. All Dj, Krish and Aparna doing a great job there and welcoming all their guests with equal amount of enthusiasm and happiness. We were there for the last week of the year and man what a blowout! It was like catching up with old buddies.

Place is Great. Location is unique. Food is yum and Hospitality is just homely!

We wish them all the success they deserve and hope to visit again!

P.s. This place is for Travellers not for TOURISTS! So come like a traveller, an Explorer!

The hosts are very kind and the room is very clean and comfortable. The stairs are a bit steep, but the views are spectacular. I want to stay here again.

I had an awesome stay at unmad.hosts were so friendly, gentle and made me so comfortable it felt like home.they have 2 very friendly dogs there well mannered. The view from the place was too good i had sat at unmad one day without going anywhere.very peaceful and happy place to stay. Food tasted like homemade food itself and the tea was amazing.it was an awesome stay

Have been to dharamkot couple of times before choosing 'The Unmad'. But I would say the hospitality, food, view and ofcourse the atmosphere was splendid at the Unmad'. We felt at home by the service provided by Krish and Aparna.

This place is nothing short of heaven. Come here if you want to spend time in peace and tranquilly. Highly recommended

Beautiful views, wonderful people, amazing food. I was travelling alone and got all the help one can expect. Very gentle and polite staff. Super sensitive owner who takes care of little things. Swept by the hospitality. Calmed by the splendid views from the windows!

What can I say. Unmad is THE place to go to when you're looking for a home away from home, chill vibes, incredibly uplifting energy and THE BEST PEOPLE ever.

Krishan is just a wonderful soul to be around. Super friendly and helpful. He makes sure that every guest's stay is as delightful as possible. A huge thank you to Krishan and the entire Unmad team for such a magical stay. My heart is so full and I cannot wait to come stay longer next year!

5 stars is not enough for this beautiful Guesthouse. It's the second time staying here and we will be back again as soon as we can. Aparna and Krishan are so hospitable & helpful with everything, so friendly and caring that it feels like a home from home

There are different price rooms but all are comfortable & clean. The kitchen runs all day and Aparna cooks the best food. The Guesthouse is a little bit uphill but worth it for the peace and quiet.

While in Dharamkot definitely do the trek to Snowline, check out the waterfalls and the Tushita Buddhist monestary. We also love the cafe 'Common Ground' in McLeod Ganj.

If you are looking for peaceful, secluded location and a good experience, Unmad is the place to go. Wish we could have stayed there had stayed there for a longer duration.

Unmad is a pretty chilled out place in Dharamkot. It is not for the faint-hearted because if you are keen on a great view overlooking the mountains from your room (which I am sure you are), you will need to be ready for a demanding flight of stairs. By day 3 though, my moderately fit body was used to them. Pros: The staff and hospitality. My partner had a health scare during our stay there and Aparna from Unmad was extremely helpful throughout. During our back and forth from the hospital, she connected us to the right people and checked on us beyond what was may be expected from her or Unmad. Ajay from the staff was very helpful and prompt too. I would not call out any cons since none of them were deal breakers for us personally. The food is average but it’s close to a bunch of restaurants so manageable. If you are looking to spend most of your time outside exploring, it’s a good place to come back to in the evenings or enjoy morning views from as the rooms are not very expansive but cozy enough to sleep in at night.

Best host with secluded place, order whatever to eat, its good.they have 2 pets in the property to play with.best to take upper rooms they have the best view throughout the day with best sunset

It was my second time in unmhd. Krish and apurna were like family to me, I'm traveling solo for the first time and they gave me a home and confident! I love them a lot

This is probably D best guesthouse in upper daramkot and the whole area. First, they have the best food. Authentic, western, sweet and sour. More than that, the hosts are so nice and helpful! They supported us for the rest of our journey and while we were staying at Unmad of course. The hosts at Unmad thought about everything. From towels, soups and toiletries to ventilators and hot pillows. I don't have to mention that everything was clean and pleasant.highly recommended!

We came for 4 nights and stayed for 10 days. The view, the fresh air, the hospitality, the food and the total atmosphear was just perfect.

For sure the stay at Unmad has been one of the best stays I had in mountains.

Simply Wow experience amazing service and food quality. It is located at a very beautiful place where you can feel like home. It was a pleasant stay at 'The Unmad'.
The property is awesomely managed by Aparna and Krish. Welcome gesture by them gives you a lovely feeling.
Rooms were quite spacious having good decore. Reading and serving tables were sufficiently stuffed with electrical sockets.
A nice view of green hills was soothing to the eyes.
It's one place I know I would like to come back.
And don't forget to check out amazing books from Krishna Pandey the writer in the reading corner section and try to play with their friendly dogs. Lyca, Tuffy and Leo, these babies are love. Next time I am going to bring my Pepsi (dog) too.

If you're looking for a peaceful and beautiful spot to stay in Dharamkot, this is it! It's an easy walk to either Dharamkot or Bhagsu, but by far the quietest place to stay in the area (most other places I stayed were close to late-night venues making it hard to sleep). Their masala chai was some of the best I had in the Dharamshala area and the room was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. Krishan, Aparna, and the whole staff at the Unmad are so lovely and really make this stay amazing—they went above and beyond both during our stay and after, when they went to great lengths to return my necklace to me after I left it! Thanks Unmad team, hope to see you guys again soon.

Warm people, great food and cozy vibes. Krishan, Aparna and DJ are the best hosts! The location of Unmad is perfect, with panoramic views of the entire Dharamkot.

The property is pretty secluded giving you a nice silent and chilly vibe. The rooms are pretty good for the prices they quote. Food is fairly good. Aparna and Sakshi have been very hospitable throughout the stay and made us feel very comfortable. They also guided us newbies to the best attractions and also helped us out in arranging commute for the same. This is great place. 9/10 would recommend to friends and family. Will also consider staying here the next time we come.

This is such a beautiful and peaceful place to stay. The energy since the moment you enter is great, the rooms are nice and spacious, plus the view from some rooms and from the cafe is spectacular. Krishan and Aparna are also amazing human beings, super friendly, helpful and great to give you advice on what to do in the area or anywhere in HP. 100% recommend it and we will be coming back

If you love staying at amazing home stays with energetic and super friendly guests, then “the Unmad” is the place you’re looking for. It’s a little walk up the stairs but once you reach, it’s a place worth climbing those stairs. Amazing view, great food, super friendly hosts, such vibrant ambience, cool guests and super cute dogs, is what you’ll find there. Absolutely comfortable stays. Totally recommend it for friends, couples, families.

The Unmad is a wonderful place to stay at. My mother and I visited it just a week back. Located above McLeodgunj, in Dharamkot, it is away from the usual hustle-bustle of the tourist-y place. The hosts - Aparna and Krishan are extremely warm, welcoming and helpful. The rooms are neat and tidy and the food is fresh and warm. The dogs owned by them are adorable and friendly and the place overlooks the majestic mountains, giving one the most spectacular view without the need to move out of the premises. The place is very well located offering access to various treks as well as cafes. The place in many ways reminded me of Kasol because of the kind of vibes I felt there and also because like Kasol, it offers seclusion when you want that as well as a social culture when you want to meet and interact with people. I pray that this place remains that quaint little place and doesn't turn into a commercial hub like Kasol.
I definitely plan to visit this wonderful place again and hope to interact with the warm hosts again:)

It was the best decision choosing unmad (the name is quite catchy and confusing) the hosts esp are very kind. They called on our checkin days and also helped climb the stairs (mind you there are a lot of stairs but the view from the top is worth all the effort) i can keep ranting about this homestay but just to mention the keypoints: it was clean and hygienic. The hosts were the best and the food was great too. It is a perfect place for digital nomads and workation to work in peace.

Who would think you would make amazing friends for a lifetime in a brief stay at a guesthouse. Well this quaint little homestay off the road in Upper Dharamkot, by the beautiful rhododendron forests offers just that.
Needles to say the hosts, Krish and Aparna are the sweetest and most accommodative. They have some really cool suggestions for local sight seeing. Lucky ones, you might earn a guided tour to a secret waterfall nearby, along with the cutest trekking companions Leo and Tuffy.
Sakshi our home grown chef and co host, sheds no sweat in juggling you up a sumptuous meal in a jiffy.
If you have been lazy and not been working out, don't worry they got you covered, every day is a leg day here: p But the flight of stairs upwards is no less than stairways to heaven: D

Everything was excellent. Rooms, food, service, location, host and the view. Aparna took great interest in making our stay as great as possible. Very peaceful location with a view of mountains. And those 130 steps are worth taking to reach The Unmad. They guide you to the lacations around dharamkot. Would like to visit and stay there again.
