JKTDC Sonmarg

The huts are beautiful with huge rooms, bed warmers and room heaters. There is a kitchen where you can cook your own food of choice. Overall a Fantastic stay in Sonamarg amidst the white snow! Can access a pony or walk upto Thajiwas glacier and take a car for Zero pt via Zojila pass.

The location is fantastic and till April, you can find snow on the compound itself. The hotel is just near the little marketplace. The staff is better, but still very less compared to the number of rooms.

Lovely room and home like food. I visited in first week of march and there was snow everywhere around hotel.

We stayed in the 10 bed hall and our experience was more than we expected. Heaters and extra blankets were provided to us in the blistering cold. The manager himself dropped off buckets of heated water for the toilets from time to time. The local travel agents spread a lot of roumers about JKTDC huts and about poor maintainance but that is not true. They have a inhouse restaurant too that serves hot fresh meals at very budget friendly prices. Recommend the huts to any budget travelers.

He asked us 2500 for one hour
Also, the winter wear was not needed at all but he forcefully convinced us to have it. All money goes in vain.
Be sure if you need winter wear boots etc. Also bargain well before proceeding.

The property is at the prime location.at the heart of Sonmarg market.with rising snow peaked mountains at the backdrop.it's got beautiful lawns.one can spend whole day sitting at lawn itself

This cottage reminds me of meadow shown in movies. Not a 5 star stay but the experience you will get will be much more worthier than any other luxury hotel.

Sonamarg is beautiful place in Kashmir. JKTDC cottages and rooms are government owned. You can stay in cottages or rooms.price is not much and room service is also good. One can also stay in hotel Kongposh. We had a nice stay at JKTDC cottages situated nearby Kongposh hotel. They also offer Satvic food.

Two bedrooms with attached bathroom, a hall with sofa and a dining table, balcony with ample space, a kitchen fitted with RO, an on call attendant and a lawn area adjacent to the cottage, what more could you want from a stay for a group of friends/family. Both rooms have room heaters, electrically heated blankets and geysers.
The only downside is that its a government property so maintenance is not at par with private hotels but overall a great stay with super location at very affordable price.

Hut was very dirty and awfully smelly. Forget about sanitisation they dont even change bed sheets and towels. Very dirty rooms. Terribly Disappointed!

Perfect location, cozy rooms, excellent staff and their hospitality.

Simply supper place to stay. Rooms are big and toilets are clean and good size. Beds were clean with electric warmers and geysers.has a good restaurant which serves limited items.both veg and nonveg.food is simple and tasty. Kawsa was excellent.must try.they serve hot morning tea on request. Overall, must say, it is difficult to find a better place with all amenities in such a location. Views from the resort is outstanding. If you plane to see glacier, you have to take a pony ride which costs anywhere between 1500 to 1700 per pony.
. We negotiated to 1000 without any gumboots and coats.if required you can get these at the foothill of the glacier at 100 to 200.taxi ride to jojila pass or zero point will cost 4300 to 5000 per trip.if you are solo, ask for per person price.

This is a jktdc hotel with restaurant. I visited in October '21 with my family. It was a highlight of our trip. We had booked jktdc thajwas but due to late arrival the authorities had allocated this one. It was a wonderful stay. Located at the centre point, it is surrounded by mountains on all sides giving us picture-perfect views.
Rooms are spacious and well maintained. Hot water and warm electric blankets were available. There is a huge lawn with flower garden. We spent hours there doing night photography. Overall no complaints regarding stay.
We had lunch and dinner there. Warm and fresh food was served within very short time. The restaurant has a Kashmiri feel about it, upholstery and decor reflected the same. The caretaker was polite enough and was always eager to help.
Just one complain though. The morning we left there was some VIP arrival. It was very chaotic. So many restrictions regarding our entry and exit. Even food was not available. Though we faced similar problems regarding the same at other jktdc resorts. I don't know what's with VIP and so high security and complete disruption of movement of tourists!
Even after everything I will surely return whenever I can.

Exotic location if you want to enjoy nature's lap. Only problem is they have only 2 bedded huts

2 bedroom hut is very cozy the location is ideal to spendtime with family.

Although I love sonmarag more than any tourist place in Kashmir. The hut was good newly renovated from inside. The kitchen provided in the hut was without gas cylinder and stove. Had to orde breakfast and lunch as well. Missed the experience of cooking on a holiday.

Rooms are costly related to other private hotel. Dormitory are not that much good. Not such good view. Parking place available. Foods are tasty. Overall average.

It has no room service or food. It's a lodge, albeit rooms are good. Hot water 24x7 and electric blankets. But view from room bad and obstructed by big poles and electric wiring. Lawns are spacious and planted with flowers. Beautiful property but Govt apathy.

The rooms are good and affordable but washroom was not clean.rooms are big with heater, LED TV, a cupboard, three chairs.view is also nice.while staying here you can eat at its cafeteria it's good.needs a bit more cleaning otherwise everything is good here.

Centrally located in the main market. This hotel by Jammu Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) is part of a large complex which has a restaurant and dormitories. The building is beautiful and new with a large garden. The deluxe room for which we paid Rs 2000 +Rs 360 GST on arrival was spacious, well lit and comfortable with a nice, clean carpet. There is an lcd tv and the bed sheets /duvets were clean. The bathroom had running hot water (make sure to turn on the geyser as soon as you check-in since electricity can be erratic.)
Unfortunately, service was poor. This can be expected since this is government run and these guys will get paid anyway! The room that was first alloted to us had an unclean bathroom. We informed the manager who immediately asked the bell boy /cleaner to clean it for us. We were surprised when he outrightly refused to clean the bathroom saying that this was as clean as possible. These guys have a lot of inertia for work. We went to the manager and he immediately gave us another room (Mr Yousuf, very nice guy). Now the bell boy gave us just one towel and a soap. This time we showed our displeasure and reluctantly he gave us one more towel and soap.
Enjoy this place as long as it is new as we fear that due to apathy this place will come apart in a couple of years.

Sonamarg is beautiful but a bit costly and this Place by JnK Tourism Department is perfect for stay. Prices may be higher in Peak season time, but services and cleanness was quite good in my limited budget.
