Bahmani Tombs

Not much to see. You can roam. The place is good. But, they don't allow women to enter one of the tombs which was not good.

Ashtoor is an important centre of Indo-Saracenic monuments. Like the Egyptian pharaohs, the Bahamani kings were fond of building magnificent tombs to house themselves after death. Twelve imposing mausoleums are located at Ashtur east of Bidar. Of these, the tombs of Ahamad Shah and Alauddin Shah II stand out due to their grandeur.

The Bahmani tombs at Bidar are the tombs of the Bahmani dynasty.
The Bahmani tombs are often confused with the Barid Shahi tombs, but while the former lies 4 km West of the town center at a place called Ashtur, the latter lies within the town.

A cluster of 12 tombs located in Ashtoor is what is known as Bahmani Tombs. The tombs comprise of large mausoleums adorned with lofty domes, arches and niches. The most sought after tomb is that of Ahmad Shah-Al-Wali which is best known for its fascinating walls engraved with verses from the Quran in gold colour.

The paintings on the wall of the tomb are quite spectacular. The salient feature of the tomb is the swastika symbol that adorns the wall of the mausoleum. Another popular tomb is of Sultan Allauddin Shah-II featuring beautiful tile panels and arched with carved borders.

Peaceful and serene environment. The tombs look amazing with the surrounded greenery. Best to visit on a drizzling day.

The concerned authorities have shown no interest in developing this place as a major tourist attraction. It may be noted that the Bahamani Kingdom had a major role in our history. At least the authorities will wake up and have a turnaround in making this a good place to visit

Ruined fort should be given attention by Karnataka Government BIDAR is defenetly a place of TOURISM.

The tombs of the Bahmani dynasty. An example of the fine 15th century architecture and craftsmanship. There are eight tombs here and the writings on the tomb reveal the king/person inside the tomb. Persian or arabic writings are also inscribed on the tombs. The tomb of Humayun Sha is partially collapsed and in bad condition. Even though this is a magnificent place, the area is not maintained well. The authorities have to take more care while preserving these architectural wonders.

There isn't much to see though as you can't go inside all you see are structures and you can just admire them and the history they have. But still a cool historic place for a good time out with friends or family, it has some scenic views for good snaps and the timing of day can make it worth.

Annual Urs is held during the month of March/April at the Tombs in Ashtur under the guardianship of Mutwalli of Dargah Mohammed Shahabuddin Bahmani, who is the direct descendant of Bahmani Dynasty. The annual Urs has a tradition of a Jangam from Veerashaiva mutt of Gulbarga doing a padayatra to reach here and offer Pooja along with the Chadar laying by the Muttawali (Mohammed Shahabuddin Bahmani) of the Dargah.

This complex of tombs is very grand from stone and dome architectures though all of them except one are locked and we can't see inside them.entrance gate side tomb is excellent as plants are growing on the dome and it might fall down soon. Another tomb ruins has half of the structure fallen down revealing the beautiful architecture of the dome and ancient engineering. A third tomb of allauddin shah has very colourful designs and tiles on its facade shining brightly after centuries of time and it's door is locked. The fourth tomb of Ahmad Shah wali has some wonderful paintings and designs inside which are fading away slowly due to the burning of incense by the locals and is only structure which is opened for public. There are other tombs with small domes in the necropolis which are closed for public.

Very much neat and peace full place. Dargah shareef also there, best sight seeing tombs and other monument of bahmani kingdom

The movement you enter the main entrance, you will be time traveller, the glory takes you to Nizam's era, I felt my self that I am in 16th century, the atmosphere around you will makes you disconnect from modern crowded world. Nice place must go.

Came from Hyderabad to visit Mid October 2019 (better time compared to summer). The monuments are no doubt well worth seeing. Especially the architecture. But ASI was still sprucing up its landscape. Hardly seemed to have any visitors. Except one all were closed. The main gates were closed on a weekend. We had to squeeze through its gap opening of the gates. The upkeep is unfortunate and disheartening with hardly any signs. Seems ASI is working on it.

Good to see.but govt should take proper measures for public safety as well as proper maintenance is required with guard

It's great if you live in Bidar and are bored on a weekend. If you live in Hyderabad, just visit the Qutb Shahi tombs. Much better, much cheaper and pretty close to good biryani places.

We went and Not even visitied whole place. You can see the broken thombs, which might be destroyed during war!

Looks super grand! Huge tombs take you through time. No facilities, and all of them (the intact ones) were locked so could see only from outside.

If your immunity is way good then visit this place, its good for photography, be careful u might get duped by the keeper of the tombs, he'll start guiding without your permission and later ask money saying he is the heir to the tombs.alll his stories are false.

This is one of the most well maintained tombs that I have come across and is way above the famous Qutub Shahi Tombs of Hyderabad. This place is best visited when the rains have just started or during the rainy season as it adds to the contrast of the landscape and the beautiful monuments. It’s located 3 kms away from Bidar at Ashtur and we’re built to house the remains of the Bahami Kings.

(Visited in January 2019) - Tombs of few Bahman Sultans (including that of Ahmed Shah Al-Wali, founder of Bidar City) are located here. At least one of the tombs belongs to a Begum. These are huge & lofty monuments, a hall mark of Islamic architecture, aesthetic to watch. Although it's a centrally protected monument, there's no charge to visit these.

It is great to visit this place during monsoon as the buildings looks so magnificent. All the greenary around just adds to the beauty. From a distance if the drone shots must be taken then it looks astonishing. It's a never miss place. It is very quite and peaceful here. Surrounded by a village.

Historical place but there no maintenance by government of karnataka. The architecture of Tombs is beauty of Art.

 The Annual Allama Prabhu jatra, a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity, celebrated in the necropolis of Ashtur near Bidar.

The week-long celebration included religious ceremonies, cultural programmes and wrestling matches.

You can find group of several large, elaborately decorated domed mausoleums of Bahmani Sultanate Kings. The care taker over there claims to belong from the same family chain of Bidar Kings. You can see the decreasing size of tombs over there which clearly shows the downfall of the empire. Currently there is no fees to visit but in coming days ASI is planning to build a garden around it and then you have to pay to visit this place. Best time to visit is winter or Monsoon. Well a beautiful and peaceful place away from City traffic and hush hush.

This a historical place near bidar city located in ashtur village. Nearly 2-3 km away from bidar fort. It's a very nice to see.it has a history of about 700 years.it was built by the bahamani rulers in that era.

It's ok! Site is under construction amd nothing glorious about that, normal ancient construction.

Here you can see huge tombs of them. They are very old. Few are damaged.
