A little trek from where you can park your car and you reach these beautiful couple of cave formations, there’s a small temple and different mythological stories behind these caves. You have to go though the entire caves bare feet since the temple is also there.

Huge rock formation amidst greenery. This place has relation to Hindu mythology about bhasmasura and mohini. The story says bhasmasura a powerful demon born out of Shiva's anger, tries to burn Shiva himself. Lord Vishnu takes form of Mohini (an enchanting girl), attracts bhasmasura and challenges him for a dance duel and forces him to burn himself and kill.

This particular rock is representation of bhairaveshwara aka lord Shiva, taller of the two. There is a temple beneath rock which is a naturally formed cave.

The other tower is shorter, called Mohini shikhara representing lord Vishnu.

The soil here is black in colour representing bhasmasura who was burnt to ashes.

Two huge solid black crystalline karst lime stone are the trademark of Yana hill, which is located at Kumta city of Karnataka. The distance from base of the hills to the black peaks are 600 m and it's a tracking route. Can travel either via public transport from Kumta bus stqnd or take a personal vehicle.

Very beautiful place, a shiva temple is there here. The soil here is black, very cool place in middle of jungle of Kumta.
There is one more Rock place called ‘Mohini shikara’ also there here. Usually busy with lot of tourists. Better to avoid rainy day visits. But a must visit place.

Nature's wonder, surrounded by forest.
Legend of the Yana Rock:
In the past, there was also a saying in Kannada that
Sokkidhavanu Yanakke hogutaane, rokkiddhavanu Gokarna ke hoguthane.
A relatively unknown spot until a few years ago, Yana shot to fame after being portrayed as a picnic spot in the Kannada movie, "Nammoor Mandara Hoove".
Yana area is known mainly for its two magnificent black rock formations, the Bhairaveshwara Peak and the Mohini Peak and also magnificent mountains, diverse rock formations, deceptive waterfalls, sacred temples.
Yana is also well known as a pilgrimage centre because of the cave temple below the Bhairaveshwara Shikhara where a Swayambhu linga has been formed. Water drips from the roof over the linga, adding to the sanctity of the place.
Road is good till parking area. Parking fee Bike-20R / and Car- 40R / -.
From the parking lot, everyone has to walk 1.3 km beside the water stream, after which they must climb 320 stairs to reach the caves.
There are some shops to eat and drink. But good to carry your own food.
Yana is 55 km from Sirsi and 30 km from Kumta. The road deviation between these two towns on the NH 17 highway is near the village of Kathagala. There is an alternative route from Yana to Devanahalli and Madighatta via Vaddi Ghat towrds sirsi.
