I recently visited Cavery Handicraft Emporium on MG Road in Bangalore to purchase authentic sandalwood for my puja, based on recommendations from family and friends. Despite my initial expectations of finding a variety of sandalwood products in this bustling location, I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive offerings.
The first section featured genuine sandalwood products like powder, incense sticks, and perfumes, emitting a delightful fragrance throughout. Moving on, I discovered an array of pure brass and copper items, including plates adorned with Indian symbols of gods, elephants, and peacocks, as well as smaller idols of various deities. The highlight, of course, was the collection of authentic sandalwood pieces, ranging from a few grams to kilograms, with even red sandalwoods available. These were skillfully crafted into showpieces and gift items.
The store also showcased a diverse range of other items, perfect as home showpieces, with prices ranging from thousands to lakhs. The billing process was remarkably seamless – select a product, receive an invoice, pay at the counter, and collect your purchase from the nearby delivery counter, all packaged meticulously with utmost care.
The staff exhibited genuine interest in assisting customers, providing detailed explanations and patiently waiting for decisions. Overall, I appreciate the state government's commendable initiative to promote these traditional products, preserving our culture, skills, and livelihoods. Such efforts ensure the continued availability of these products in significant quantities, preventing the loss of valuable skills as newer generations explore alternative occupations.
Unresponsive people at least don't clean the idols at the time of purchase and irresponsible nature even though the idols are good. I don't like that lady who is sitting at the counter
This place has lovely artefacts but they could improve on the billing section its outdated. Bill in one counter move to another counter to check and pay in another counter and then pick up your stuff in another counter.
Maintained by the Government, this outlet has good variety of Sandalwood products from wood blocks to fragrances sachets, agarbattis and sculptures, garlands and many more. Other metal decoratives, Kolhapuri sandals, are also available.it's easily accessible via public transport as it's ok the main road and closer to MG Road metro station. (They don't have grinding stone for sandalwood pieces).
Also including certain facts and identification markers of good sandalwood, along with history, geographical facts can be greatly useful
Government retail shop for handicrafts and perfumery from Karnataka, especially Mysore Sandal products, sandal & other wood and metal sculptures. Prices could be rather high, but authenticity is assured. Accepts cash & credit card payments.
Only place to buy authentic Chandan sticks and other items. You get the essence of true south India and its tradition. You get all handicraft items at competitive price. Love this place. I take all my relatives there who come to Bangalore.
Beautiful and a variety of products from regular wood to sandalwood to brass. Hand crafted items, paintings, sculptures and what not. The place to go for buying unique traditional Indian gifts. Not well maintained and terribly slow. They need to upgrade their systems and processes as the entire ordering and the billing process takes forever! Staff seems seasoned and don't care much about selling or showcasing products. Some may help if you tell them what you need. It's right at the mg road brigade road junction may make parking a bit of a challenge but super easy to spot. Regardless, definitely worth checking out.
Good collection, but a bit congested. Need some light and ventilation, fan should be switched on if AC is not working. Billing system needs to be upgraded, still using dot matrix printer with 3 copies and manually removing carbon papar from each bill copy takes too much of time and worst of all is the one who is sitting at the section desk and struggling to operate the system. Service really needs to be improved. Bangalore is moderately developed, and this place is most visited by NRIs. But the kind of impression are we sending from here is just not right. Couple of section counters lack service and need to be upgraded. And people should not visit on a two wheeler. Paid parking is available only for four wheelers.
It has unique and authentic items especially from South rural and remote parts like sandalwood art, paintings, wood art and some which I don't remember but bought at least 5 of them. Prices range from 50 to 5,00,000 INR, so a visit is worth it.
It's a place everyone should visit. If remain in Bengaluru you hadn't visit, then I assure you that you have lost a precious memory. Art and craft is so fantastic work, I can't avoid to purchase some items. Beautiful antique gallery. I love it.
My personal idea is if you are going to left Bengaluru then must visit here before departure.
The rosewood articles and also other wood based statues n dolls are a beautiful and a majestic display of our india artisans and in the effort of promoting such a delicate skill and art form cauvery provides one of the best avenue to showcase the same. The products are in mint shape and a go to destination for dasara doll collection as well as a good collection of art n dolls that can be placed inside the house.
The ambience and the collections are really good. But the staff members try to make us buy more. If we ask for one, they ask us to buy two. Then only they make the bill. I experienced this on buying earrings.
One of the best handcraft shops in Bangalore. My mom loved this shop. There many things here from jewels to wooden handcrafts and etc. If you want to shop and save ur time, it's one of the best places.
The, place to go for authentic handicrafts, including intricately carved wood sculptures, trinkets, enchanting incense/ agarbathies, laquarware toys, and a whole lot of sandalwood products.
A nice place to buy reliably genuine sandal wood products paste and wood.that apart a feast for eyes.a pleasure to see spend enjoying the workmanship and buy as your budget allows.located in the heart of the city.staff courteous and helpful.
People will get sandalwood products and sticks but this place not accessible for wheelchairs persons no parking facilities, even security will not guide you where you can park your Two-Wheeler or four wheelers.
There are various products to explore but you can't enjoy if you reach there with your vehicles.
I mostly come here for sandalwood. One of the authentic places for good sandalwood. There are lots of other stuff like Pooja materials, sandalwood show pieces. You can also find face packs, incense sticks etc. Prices are on the higher side but quality is too good!
Excellent wood handicrafts sandel wood handicrafts soaps powders agarbhatis available all are made by original sandel wood.it's government owned enterprise
Govt of Karnataka owned shop located at the crossing of MG road and Brigade road. Here you will get original Sandalwood and products of it. Products made of Rosewood, Shivaniwood are also available here. Products are excellent but bit costly.
This is government shop for the Indian handicrafts (primarily sandalwood crafts of Karnataka). You will get all the products made from sandalwood also they have other handicraft items
Although everywhere online people mentioned this the authentic place to buy sandal wood, it is also most expensive place to buy it. In comparison smaller shops that sell puja items have same sandalwood at much lesser cost. But one need to know to identify the real one. Overall good place with many options and is authentic. Need not worry about that part.
Too costly and Gst is too much on sandel wood crafts. Must sure to take a sufficient amount of money as the things are so beautifully crafted you can't regret to buy. Sandel wood statues are fabulous. And you can also get pure mysore silk sarees. Just be there before 6: 00pm.
Best place to shop for souvenirs on MG Road. The prices are fixed and are reasonable and you can pick from a wide variety of sandalwood products, Wooden products and even silk products.
It is a state run art and craft emporium. Art work made from wood, sandal wood and brass are special. Incense sticks, doops made of sandal, and real sandal wood with govt certification is available here. Woolen items, precious and semi precious loose stones are also available. Strictly photos are not allowed.
Beautiful place. Its is Government affiliated, hence no chanc eof fraud. Premium Quality Goods.loved everythign especially the sandalwood carvings and pieces. A must visit place.
We bought one ganesha murthi from this. It's very nice. A perfect gift. Which was made from a single peace of wood. And also bought a sandle wood peace for daily use. Very happy.
Staffs are very rude, since they are government employees, they dont care if their products get sold or not, because fixed salary for them as they are permanent staffs. When i escalated an issue to the cashier, the guy was asking why are you speaking to me? Very rude and unprofessional, dont go there. You can purchase same quality stuffs in nearby kashmir emporium and other arts shop like tarang etc,
This shop is a specialists in hand crafted wooden objects. They have a huge collection of traditional Indian articles which are very high quality but still available at very economical rates. The handicraft come in various size and shapes and the shop is divided into 3 levels one of which is underground. ️ This place has: Yes=Ramp access. Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Entrance. Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Restroom/Toilet. Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Seating. Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Parking. No=A wheelchair-accessible Elevator.
Not even one star. Even after purchase of expensive delicate intricately carved sandalwood idol, they charged for gift packing Rs. 30/- and that packing consisted of wrapping in joint pieces thick brown paper liner with corrugations around it thin flimsy coloured paper. Not even a sign showing its purchased from Cauvery and its delicate piece. Really worst experience comparing with KSIC Showrooms.please note The price is same in both. These people have improve lot.
Excelent collection of sandelwood meterials. Everyone how visit to Bengaluru must see the palce. But as the organisation is run by the government, staff's are very un professional and not up to the mark.
Cauvery emporium was established in 1980s. If you take purple line metro, you will find Cauvery Emporium metro station, where you can get down and from there it is hardly 2mins walk. It is very near to Cubbon park, Vidhan Sauda and its just next to brigade road. So people visiting cauvery emporium can also visit these places. You will easily find autos or also buses. Cauvery Emporium has handcrafts, such as sandal items, wood items, show pieces made out of wood. The incense sticks and dhoops are very nice and worthy. They also have some clothing items such as kurtas, shawls, table covers, mostly made of silk or cotton. They have started keeping leather bags and purses as well for ladies and gents both. You can see decorative items alot in the store for your home. They keep sandal necklaces and other items which are used to worship God. The prices are a little expensive Just outside the store is a shop with keyring s, small toys for kids like whistles, spoons and kitchen sets etc. You can check this out as well. Compared to Cauvery emporium, it is little bit cheaper.
Good and recommended place to buy souvenir in Bangalore. You can get sandalwood design key chain, original wood or stick, powder, carvings, handicrafts over there. They do have selling other than sandalwood items as well, example silk products like scarf or local traditional cloth kurtis. From the store, it breakdown by several sessions, once you complete your shopping in each session, you just need to get the invoice from the each department counter, pay and collect your product in main entrance counter. They do accept credit card.
Great place for handicrafts from the state of Karnataka. This is a government run handicrafts shop and be assured that the materials are genuine. The sandalwood artifacts are made of pure sandalwood and one need not worry about the authenticity of the material/artisans. The purchase process may seem a bit slow (different counter for payment and receipt of goods) but do enjoy shopping here. Must visit place if you are in Bangalore. The have will ties which are very nice and not very expensive.
Always love to go there. Bought lots of mementos for an overseas conf. Only grouse is that the place still has a "government" look and feeling. We need to shake that off. Staff there need to feel motivated. However staff Mr. Seetharam was very helpful.
Nice staff! The store could really be improved. Too much stuff all over the floor leaving very little space to walk. Products are disorganized and poor lighting. If it's a state handicraft store, it shouldn't be stocking products from all over India. People come to a state store to buy products from the state.
One of the oldest & iconic building on MG Road. Anybody coming to Bangalore & not visiting this place is like not seeing Bangalore. It's the most famous Handicraft Store in Bangalore. You would live this place. You can buy genuine Sandal wood stuff here.very nice place.
Karnataka State Government's Cauvery Emporium at MG Road. You can get Sandal wood made decorative items here including the sandal wood sticks and other puja room items. Pure and original.
One has a choice of Handicraft items. But the place is overcrowded with items n no proper place even to walk. If the management can try and open more outlets in the vicinity it would cater to locals and visiting Foreigners!
Authentic handloom and handicraft stuff from Karnataka. Plenty of variety in sandalwood products like soaps, incense, pure sandalwood sticks, garlands, sliver jewelry, silk sarees, showpieces. A must visit place if you are in Bangalore.
The handicrafts are good. I had went here for clothing, for Mysore silk. But they have a very poor collection of cloths. More than that the salseperson was behaving as if she was not interesting in selling the product. Did not like the overall place at all. Nobody is bothered about the customer. Handicrafts were good though and location is also good.
Good collection and nice location on MG Road. Your needs for anything Sandal should be fulfilled here. They are strict about timings and carry your bag.
Lot of choices in terms of wooden handicraft (sandal wood and other wood), metal figurine, lamps and other puja stuff, freshener, incense sticks, sandal powers etc. Located right at the crossing of MG road, it is an easy spot. If you like handicraft things, this place is a must visit. Some of the items may seem expensive.
Traditional arts and handicrafts items from the contemporary artisans of Karnataka state. Prices are bit higher however rest assured about the genuineness of the items as the shop is owned and managed by government of Karnataka. You will be overwhelmed with the amount of items kept for display and generally counter staffs are not friendly because they are all seems to be government employees.
Located in MG road.you will get original sandalwood products and it is managed by government of karnataka.price is reasonable.parking is amajor issue.better commute in metro train as the stop is just a few yards.
Wide variety of wooden crafts, bidri art, sandal wood products. Good staff who respod. Still it's a government shop with quadruple bills and delayed response on customisation requests.
Best option for handicrafts, especially the wooden treasures for any budget. I have purchased wall hangers, paintings, mysore dasara Chariot, Ashoka Pillar with lions, elephants, brass articles, sandal wood artefacts, sandalwood powder, sandal paste, perfume, sandal wood pieces. All authentic and no cheating. Government outlet. Must visit for anyone visiting Bangalore. Don't get cheated by others claiming Government Authorised. Only this outlet on MG ROAD and Brigade road junction is the original.
I asked for proper packing since it was a delicate item and I had to put it in check in luggage. All they did was wrapped it with the paper and said this the best they can do.
I took someone who was first time visitor to India, and honestly I felt, this place has to evolve, the billing sooo sooo slow and people working there are not interested in attending customer at all, if we ask for something, they ask you to walk around m find it, rather than coming and showing us. Very poor customer management skills
Good place for buying handicrafts n natural perfumes such as sandal wood, sandal oil, sandal powder n beautifully carved of wood which reflects the image of our culture wonderful experience to visit store itself
Original Sandalwood you can purchase here, good location, but only cons as they are government shop. They don't listen to you if you have any query on items. So, a bit low on customer service. Otherwise good shop.
