Central Village Pottery Institute (CVPI)

Estd in 1964, this institute was conceptualized to encourage entrepreneurship and impart knowledge of pottery in Khanapur, (A region with many traditional potters living in, as well as a rich history of clay baked good such a bricks, tiles, pipes etc die to rich availability of good clay suitable for baking).

Fast forward today one can see the original structure as well as the added sheds and administrative building. Along with equipment needed for pottery production.

It offers classes and certification of pottery

I would say this is the best and only institute in India for pottery training, I did wheel pottery course and terracotta artware course here, the place and the people work here are amazing, this is the only place in India where a common man can learn pottery, after finishing course they will also help in guiding about various government schemes to startup own business. The campus, hostel and infrastructure are excellent, saying thank you is a very small word, hats off to the staff, you will feel like a family here

Must visit if you are on the Belgaum-Goa Highway. Highly recommend for art lovers and artist.

Clearly an institution which has fallen on bad times. A simple place. The coutyard and older building which is at the back are far more interesting. The pottery on sale did not impress us. A small exhibit of not on sale items is better.

It's an old institute it is nice to see that pottery is still existing and worth visiting Thier and see how the pottery making process is done with the old machine so its very nice all dolls, tea cups mugs, home decoration, pot for plants and many other are prepared in the pottery itself

Very good training institute for Pottery Artisans, enthusiasts. One must however understand that it is a government institute. They also have a sale counter. Again no one is really interested in selling. The sale happens only if the buyer pushes.
