City Central Library

This is my Go- to library. They've got a sufficient book collection. The librarians & office staff are polite & friendly. It requires a nice new makeover but other than that. It's amazing.

The place is good for competitive exams and normal study as well.
It has books for everything like CA, management, law, sociology etc etc.

Located just outside St. Aloysius College. Best place for readers. Always filled with students. If you want some peaceful place for study you can consider this. They have huge collection of books. If you want to borrow books from here you need to do membership card. You can buy 3 books from a membership card. The return period is 15 days. Not air conditioner. Feels really hot during summers. All age group people come to this library.

If you are a student you have a place to study and there are good collection of books here which also includes some of the academic books.

One of the oldest Government library in Mangalore. Next to St Aloysius College. Has good collection of books and reference materials. Infrastructure of the library requires a maintenance. Arrangement of books can be improved as books are not placed in any order.

I was a regular visitor during the 1990s. This is the first visit after a long gap and I was pleasantly surprised by the changes that the library has undergone. A new borrowing section has been added in the first floor and there is good light and ventilation to facilitate a good reading experience. The librarian was also very helpful. A digital corner, a play corner for young ones, a wide reading area on the ground floor for wvery age (also good for differently abled persons) are the additions that I have noticed. In the borrowing section there is a good collection of both old and new books on a wide variety of topics. Reference books for those preparing for competitive exams are also there. My daughter and son also found the place awesome. I am sure we can a variety of entertaining as well as enlightening books here. Membership is also affordable. Life membership INR 200.00. Three cards per person. Can borrow (3 per person, one for each card) books for 15 days at a stretch. I am really grateful to the Karnataka Government for providing such a facility in the State which treats every member equally. Remember: membership is for individual from the district. You have to bring a copy of your adhar card to apply for membership. Believe me it is worth the price and your effort.

A very good place to study, and the staff is also very cool and supportive. There's a suggestions to the management if air conditioner will be fitted there then it will help for the students because there's too much humidity there.

It's a good innovation of Government for readers. I given only 4 / 5 because
1. It should be 24*7 excluding public holidays
2. Provide a wash base after food and a dustbin for food waste.
3. Try to give instructions in English too.
4. Increase the number of charging points.
5. The wall of library contains some messages but as a mallu I can't understand anything.
6. Library name itself should be in English too on the front.
7. While I eating food from one corner of library one staff come and told it's not good to eat from here according to vasthu so sit other place and eat. I surprised why because read article 51. A. (h) of constitution of India

Everything about this library is awesome but their opening time is wrong it opens at 9am but it's shown it opens at 6am

Central library is well equipped with a number of books, magazines, newspapers. Their ref section is well stocked. Fiction they have quite a few old books and also in kannada. It is very easy to get a membership here and courteous helpful staff. Ideal for a quiet reading afternoon.

I will give ZERO rating for the behaviour of the staff.they forgot that it’s a public property & anybody can use it. They show disrespect to the people who visit there in front of everyone inside library & don’t have any manners to speak. Government should give public a free & happy staff instead of these.we all want a government to take a strict action towards their employees & teach them to be kind & tell them it’s not their private property.

The library needs immediate attention. Books are in horrible condition. There's hardly anyone to take care of this place.

One of the best library located in centre of Mangalore. Best place to prepare yourself for competitive exams and many more. 1,50,000 + books available of all materials. Building might be decades old but well maintained. Good ambience for serious studies. Internet and computer facilities are available also e-library. Good reference section. All the availability of NEET, GATE, CET books.

Its the perfect place to find all the books you search for.plenty of area to sit and read as well as you can borrow the books.can go for studing also.all the facilities are there for your convenience

There are a lot of people here especially after college hours. It is best to visit during school hours as you have a chance to get a seat. But even at it's most crowded hours, there is an atmosphere of white noise/asmr. It is a very good place to spend a few hours if you're into books and stuff. There is a good selection of novels and storybooks with a lot of tomes around.

Membership
The membership is lifetime and one time payment.
You need to reissue/return the borrowed book (s) every 14 days.
There is no extra charge while borrowing a book.
There are three tiers of membership here
Tier 1- Rs. 100
You can borrow 1 book at a time
Tier 2- Rs. 150
You can borrow 2 books at a time
Tier 3- Rs. 200
You can borrow 3 books at a time

Awesome place. Open for all from 8: 30 am to 8: 00 pm. Quiet and peaceful space to sit and read. Good collection of books. Area for students to come and study. Occupancy of seat depends, seats get occupied during exam seasons as the place is in the centre of the city and there are colleges nearby.

I am visiting this city library for last 12 years &I am a regular member. I find there are lot of books on different subjects. I have also observed that lot of books in Hindi are donated by Raja Ram Mohan Rai Library, Calcutta. I find about 20% of these books are good&rest is not for a regular reader. These books are of no use to a reader who is a fan story &novels. Others are meant for research scholar &is not of use for general public. They are just covering the space &I suggest these books be removed, only useful books they will be few are to be kept. Hindi litrature is having big amount of writers. We should give space for these writers a proper space in the library. There are other language popular writers whose books are translated in Hindi&they are equally good &famous. I myself have donated good amount of Hindi &English novels to the library. Any help in this regard is welcome &will be glad to give direction with my experience. I my self is having vast collection of Hindi, English novels/story books. I go to library to see if some new books have come but I am disappointed. I did not visit the place since last four years since there were no new stock of books were available.
