Devanahalli Fort

Even before Tipu was born, Kempegowda's elders had built this fort at this place. Later, Tipu was born there as a mighty man and conquered Kannada. This fort is also neglected because it is the birthplace of Tipu. More development works are to be done.

We chanced upon the Devanahalli Fort, while driving to Nandi Hills. It was quite surprising that even though we stayed near to Hebbal, never heard about this piece of history. Also got to know that this was the birth place of Tippu Sultan.

Once we entered the fort, what was surprising is that there is an entire village or rather a town nestled inside these huge walls. But it's a beautiful scene, you get to walk back in time, untouched by the metropolitan culture of Bangalore. The view from the top was mesmerizing overlooking the lake.

It was a beautiful drive into the village, you will find a few small eat-outs selling authentic south indian cuisine. We couldn't drive further down, as the roads were getting crowded and narrower.

A must visit, should be a two hour drive from central Bangalore. It was a beautiful experience.

The place is good for a short stop like a snack break The village is inside the walls of Old Fort This was Bulid by Hyder Ali the father of Tipu Sultan quite a strong base and walls almost 30 feet wide and 1 KM of round shape.
It would be a good stop for small brack Also this is around a lake over the north side.

A bit secluded fort. The remains are still maintained and renovation of the fourth and it's wall were in progress. I never knew it was the place were Tippu Sultan was born. Heavy congested houses are in around this fort with many locales. Good one to visit with kids. The ride from central bangalore, Whitefield, etc will be so good that the family will enjoy with lakes and green space with a best view of airplanes landing.

The fort is in dilapidated state. Felt sad seeing the negligence of ASI in maintaining such historically important site.

The width of the walls is quite amazing to observe. And that a small village exists within the walls is fascinating to see from up above the walls.

A complete walking tour around the walls of the fort will make one realize what it was meant to defend.

The fort has many historical traces. It is located in Devanahalli, three hours from Bangalore. Temples and homes have been snuggled into the area around the fort. The fort is open to visitors for free, and you can tour all of the nearby temples in an hour.

The place looks nice from the outside but not much of a fort is seen in the inside. Its already populated with building from a lot of people. Two of the old temples are worth visiting. Except for that nothing much.

It's not like other forts far away from the city. There's a full layout inside the fort. Houses n temples n more. So the entrance is at the beginning only. At the car park the history is written about it. The fort overlooks the Devanahalli kere. Entrance can be made better as we were confused whether it was the entry or we needed to elsewhere. There is a flight of stairs (roughly made) elders and people with leg problems might find it difficult. If this is taken care of then the fort is a beautiful place to walk and understand history. Some repair work is definitely happening. I liked it. Probably mornings and evenings are a good time to visit as it's all open. It's pretty clean so far.

Four hundred to five hundred years old fort. Need govt attention as some portion of the fort is collapsing.

Devanahalli Fort is good for visiting. This fort was awesome but not well maintained. In this fort we saw lot of architecture and beautiful art. The fort is also good for photography

There is nothing much to see in the fort. It is spread across several acres of land but there is no maintenance at all. However, there are several beautiful temples inside the fort premises.
