This place is a must visit once you are in Manipal. A place of priceless heritage pieces, where you get to learn how our forefathers of different cultures lived. We were fortunate to have had Mr. Srinivas Shenoy (son of the person who built this place). He explained that his father wished to preserve ancient heritage and started acquiring all these pieces with hardly any means. Truly heartening story!

This place is kept well maintained and spotlessly clean. There are about 24different houses to visit and admire, which should take you between 1.5-2hrs. Ticket costs Rs. 300 for adults, but totally worth it.

Manipal is a throttling City, where you always heard roaring buses, trucks, and flying people here to there. After you enter here, you will forget where you are and enter a new era. Every house tells you a different story and tells you about your culture, heritage, and architecture. The fee is quite high but for 300 you can make time travel that's not a bad deal.

This is really a good place to visit for a cultural and heritage experience of the region. There are 23 houses to visit here and it takes roughly around 2 hours to visit the houses in detail. The price for adult was rs. 300 which I thought was a bit steep. Nearly 5 houses were closed. Considering I paid rs300 I expected all the houses to be open. It was not mentioned at the time of buying the ticket that some houses were closed. The houses are well maintained and gives us a good idea about the ways of living of the people who lived there in the past. It reminds me of my grandma's old house. Its a good place to relax and explore the history of the konkan region. The architecture of the houses is amazing. The woodwork, painting and many other ancient objects are well preserved. This is a must visit place with family and friends.

Must-see place if you have an interest in heritage buildings.

The highlight, for me, was the home of a chieftain of the Vijayanagar kingdom. The magnificent woodwork of this room in a small outpost gave me an inkling of what was lost when the capital city at Hampi was burnt to the ground.

This kind of preservation of our heritage is highly commendable. I think a place like this can be a great addition to Hampi and other such places of current historical tourism value. Transplant heritage buildings of that era/kingdom to a "building heritage museum" so that people can get a sense of what life was like in those times.

This place displays a wide range of buildings, each carefully transplanted, rebuilt, restored, and preserved. Hats off to the founder and his dedicated staff.

It was a long planned trip to the Hasta Shilpa Heritage Village in Udupi and yesterday it finally came off. I had read about it in detail and wanted to honour the vision of Mr. Vijayanath Shenoy and the incredible efforts put in by him to conserve the architectural heritage of Karnataka which is fast vanishing under the force of modernization. The village is placed in a very peaceful locale. I myself was very pleased with the cawing of crows and the chirping of birds all around. An temple nearby also provided its own audio cues of bells and prayers. All the houses are neatly laid out and numbered. A virtual guide can also be downloaded onto your phone so that you can find out more about each house you enter. The carefully curated music playing in each house also added to the atmosphere. Some staff members were moving around in the grounds to keep an eye on the visitors and provide some guidance. The entire place has been kept very clean and even while we were there a team of ladies were moving from house to house dusting and mopping.
Only unguided tours were available when we visited and an gallery of Ravi Varma paintings was locked up. On enquiry we were told that it was closed for renovation (?). Wish we were allowed to browse the museum's/ galleries as well.

Although there some non period items mixed in with period items, structures feel authentic and offer much needed cultural context to an otherwise quickly modernizing Udupi. Preserving these heritage structures is an important way to pass down culture to our future generations.

A hidden gem and absolutely undervalued space. Must visit. Can be improved with a guide who can accompany or a recorded audio guide.

Self guided tour through a well maintained model of a heritage village. Very good for children and enthusiasts to see houses modelled around different cultures and centuries, the various households items used over time, the type of market places and shops, the ostentatious or simple lifestyle of different classes, and so on.

Great culmination of ancient architectural designs at one place. Not a place to get done with in an hour take out ample time to appreciate the beauty.

Must Visit Place!
Extremely good place with old houses being brought from its place of origin and installed here. Excellent work. The feel you get by visiting this place is priceless.
I encourage more and more people to visit and contribute.

1. Ample space for parking and friendly staffs.
2. Very clean and hygiene place.

A magical and painstakingly restoration of the traditional architecture of Karnataka.
Time flew by as we paced through classic homes from different times and sections of the society, transported from their original location, from ruins to being reinstated back to full glory here. Not just the actual houses, but also the art, music and scents unique to each house add personal charm that helps transport you to that time and age!
It is an inspiration to see 1 man's vision to save and display the traditional architecture of this region. And its true, all around the fast changing landscape of Udipi and Manipal, the cute vernacular structures are fast disappearing, being engulfed by malls and city style monolithic pigeon holes.
So this may be the only place in the future where we will be able to witness the styles of homes of the bygone era.
DO not miss this place!
