Hirvate Estate

We had a fantastic 4 day stay. The rooms were fabulous and the estate was a such a sanctuary of quiet. Went for couple of walks there and all one hears is chirping of the birds. The staff is extremely helpful and the 4 resident doggos are just adorable. The food is delicious, simple home cooked. And above all, Trupti and Samrat are just fabulous hosts. Highly highly recommend this place if you are looking for a drivable break from Bengaluru. Couple of nice spots nearby to visit as well - the dam reservoir for the sunset and temples in Belur.

We stayed for 3 nights at Hirvate Estate and our experience has been nothing short of stellar! A direct message on Instagram followed by a quick phone call to Trupti and all our questions were answered and booking formalities done. The honesty and professionalism of that call set the tone of how the rest of the stay was to be!

The cottages are cosy, very well appointed and have everything one needs for a comfortable stay. The bathrooms are great - modern and spotlessly clean. The private sit out is perfect for sipping their wonderful filter coffee. You are in the middle of the coffee plantation and the cottages seems to merge perfectly with the green and serene surrounding. What a treat to be woken up by the cacophony of chirping of birds (including peacocks)!

The food is outstanding - home cooked, delicious with recipes coming down through the family heritage and a menu that is beautifully curated by Trupti, so that you don’t repeat any dish during your stay. That speaks for a certain level of detailing which is highly appreciated.

There is a little club house (where we would have our meals) which has a beautiful lawn with a central log fire area. Come nightfall and it’s divine sitting around the log fire with drinks, conversations and snacks with clear skies above!

And if you thought this is all there is to the stay - let’s push it up a notch! A tight team of 4 which takes care of your every need, showing a level of profession alism and intuitiveness only found with the best in hospitality. Service is as punctual the Japanese bullet train - so coffee at 7am - and you can be sure that there will be a knock at 7 am - not a minute ago or later! (Beyond a point, we could tell the time by just when the coffee arrived!) The service is discrete (always around, yet never in your face) and once they have understood your preferences, you don’t need to repeat your requests again. Salute!

Evenings are spent enjoying a beautiful sunset by the lakeside (a short drive away) and walks in the estate by Trupti and by the super energetic Jr (who clearly knows his way around the Estate). It’s a pleasure to hear Trupti speak about life on the estate and understanding the world of coffee!

Hirvate estate is a property with history brought alive by the labour of love of Trupti & Samrat. The wonderful and friendly estate dogs add an element of completeness to the stay.

Hirvate for us was not just a plantation stay - it was about being a part of a family, bespoke experiences and great memories!

My partner Niteesh and I loved everything about our stay at Hirvate Estate and only regretted that we couldn’t move in permanently. Our guest cottage was charming and comfortable with a high, molded tin ceiling and a big four-poster bed. This American particularly appreciated the large hot water tank affording her an indulgent long, hot shower. We enjoyed sitting on the big front porch overlooking the lush, peaceful estate grounds, listening to birdsong while the lovely staff brought us tea and sweet dogs paid us visits. Though the incredible food has been one of my favorite things about my first visit to India, the food at Hirvate Estate was by far the best—always freshly prepared, mouthwateringly delicious, and nourishing—full of fresh vegetables and hearty legumes, flavorful but never too heavy. I am still dreaming of their coconut chutney, which I could have eaten like soup. Because I have a sensitivity to cow’s milk, Trupti went out of her way to get almond milk—a kindness that’s not easy in India’s countryside. Hosts Samrat and Trupti were not only incredibly attentive, but warm, funny, and interesting. We marveled at the masterfully carved and designed nearby 1100 AD Hoysala Temple but recommend visiting early in the morning before it’s crowded with school groups. Trupti arranged for us to visit Watehole Dam at sunset, where I was able to get in a lovely, scenic run. Hirvate Estate is a vast, active coffee farm—fun to explore but easy to get lost in, as Niteesh and I discovered when I attempted to run the trails between the coffee plants. The evenings cooled to the upper 60s, a perfect temperature. The staff builds a big bonfire to enjoy outside the dining hall each night and the cottages come equipped with high-powered flashlights that make for great night exploring. Hirvate Estate offered a beautiful, peaceful escape from the urban density of Bangalore, where we were based for our month in India. We can’t wait to return!

We LOVED our two day stay at Hirvate and truly wished we could have stayed an entire week! The cottages are stunning and beyond comfortable—-easy to nap all day except that sleeping too much means missing out on the STUNNING grounds and estate which deserves hours of exploring & enjoying. And to top it all off we enjoyed delicious, home cooked fresh meals for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Better than any restaurant any day. Highly recommend a stay at this beautiful Karnataka escape. For rest, rejuvenation & joy!

We recently visited Hirvate Estate for 3 nights.
Serene property in middle of coffee estate.
If you are the one who enjoys quite and calm atmosphere then this is the place to be.
Waking up to the sound of birds and lovely coffee.
Just 3.5 hours drive from Bangalore is this lovely property maintained well by lovely couple Samrat and Trupti.
Our stay was full of fun and warmth and we were made to feel at home.
Hosts make sure the guests are well entertained -tour to the estate, coffee picking etc. Lots of indoor and outdoor games for kids and adults.
Music and bonfire in the evenings.
Food is amazing and Trupti takes personal care to dish out delicacies.
Our 5year old doesn't eat spice and Trupti went out of her way to prepare non spicy food for my son.
All in all this place is a must visit.

LUXURY COTTAGES IN COFFEE COUNTRY

We booked three cottages and stayed here for 3 nights in Dec 2022. With 3 kids aged 5,7 & 12 and grandparents who are in their 70s. Despite the wide range of age groups and needs, I’m happy to report that we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hirvate.

THE VIBE

Overall the property preserves the English soul of the original plantation owners. From the cottages to the gravel drive and fruit trees. The Clubhouse where you have your meals is quite Victorian without being stuffy. They have a fireplace and a bonfire there so it creates a very European setting. If you’re booking all the cottages and want to have an elegant sit-down dinner it would be perfect. But if you want to just stick to comfort-wear and enjoy an unfussy easy-breezy summer party, it’s great for that too. Trupti and Samrat love hosting and are very sophisticated and intelligent at entertaining.

FOOD

I would recommend sampling the local Malnad and Kodagu cuisine. They don’t provide alcohol but you can bring your own. 

Just let them know your general requirements, resist too many instructions and enjoy their genius level menu planning.

COTTAGES

The cottages are clean, spacious and well-appointed. There are crisp white sheets and duvets. Enough room for a spare bed without cramping your space. There is an AC provided, although with the weather being so sublime, we never needed to turn it on. Surprisingly well-stocked libraries in every room. There weren’t too many mosquitos.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL

If you’re someone who appreciates details, like me, you will see their refinement show in the small touches. The high quality linen and cutlery. All the meats are procured from Bamburies, a premium retailer which stocks the highest quality meats. The speakers in the Clubhouse are Bang & Olufsen. The house coffee blend is medium-roast 100% arabica. If you take your coffee seriously, this will definitely float your boat. The lawns and gardens are as impeccably maintained as David Beckham’s stubble. The furniture in the rooms, from the lamps to the plantation chairs are well chosen and period appropriate.

ACTIVITY

The kids had loads of fun just hanging around the garden and climbing up and down the tree house, playing with the friendly estate dogs. 

Adults went on leisurely walks around the property. The hosts also offer a guided tour of the coffee planting, curing process. 

You might also enjoy fishing in a nearby pond. They provide basic bamboo fishing rods and bait, along with assistance to get there and back.

HOSTS & STAFF

I see from most of the reviews that the first thing that people mention are Samrat and Trupti’s warmth and charm. So at the risk of repetition, I would like reiterate that they were exemplary hosts. Courteous, very thoughtful and wonderful company. 

 Hirvate has a large retinue of well-trained, responsive and polite staff who are always at your service. They really made our stay special.

WHAT TO PACK

You should be ok with packing a fleece hoodie or a shawl for the mornings and evenings. I would recommend sportswear if you intend to walk around. And maybe something a little smarter for the evenings if you want to dress up.

I have to say Hirvate estate was one of the most beautiful and relaxing homestay type experiences my wife and I have had in a really long time. The location is really serene, the cottages are nestled right next to the coffee plantation and surrounded by greenery. The cottages themselves are so neat, cozy and still very modern. The caretaker Amar, the staff and the owner Trupti were extremely hospitable and made us feel right at home. The food is really amazing, every dish was very tasty. We really had a rejuvenating and peaceful experience. Will definitely visit again when we need to get away from the city. We even got to play with some puppies and the doggies in the estate are very friendly.

We had been there as a family during the Dussehra vacation. If you are planning for a weekend get away from Bangalore within 3-4hrs of drive, then Sakleshpur is a good place. And if Sakleshpur is the place you decide, then, I recommend for a stay at HIRVATE Estate.
This place is around 30kms before Sakleshpur, but as a Home Stay, it has beat my expectations. We had a very comfortable stay. The big rooms, and the 'big' bathrooms are a special mention.
Food is served (3 meals + evening snacks) and each meal will be a treat for you, in terms of its quality and variety and, need to say that each meal will have a special dish for you to tickle your taste buds.
They have a very large collection of books. In case you are an avid reader, this is an ideal place for you to relax and read.
Thanks to Samrat and Tripthi (the owners) for giving a personal touch and to Amar for the wonderful service rendered. They took us for a walk through the estate and explained about the coffee plantations and also to a dam close-by, which is good place for an evening walk.

This is most superb stay that I had. The food is just amazing. The hospitality is excellent. The owners take the utmost care of every detail. The rooms are very well planned with excellent decoration.

3hrs drive from blore you land into a place surrounded by greenery. The stay is worth making this trip along mouth watering food. Warm Hospitality adds cherry to entire stay.

Great location, peaceful setting in a coffee /pepper plantation. Close to Belur/ Halebidu. Excellent service.
Food & overall maintenance could have been better.

We went to Hirvate looking to relax and recharge. The stay was superb in all respects. The food and was out of this world with so many dishes provided. Trupti is a great hostess and the personal touch made all the difference. She shared so many interesting stories about the estate and its history. Loved it! The cottages are really spacious and I loved the colonial feel. If you love dogs, there are 3 resident doggos that are so sweet and friendly. Trupti also recommended places we could visit nearby and provided us directions and even had her driver show us the way to one of the locations. All in all it was a great experience! Scenic and beautiful!

Great place, with excellent food, and wonderful hosts! Hirvate estate is a treasure and is the perfect place to unwind and escape from the city. Just around 4 hours from Bangalore, it's so easy and fast to get to. It's an added bonus that Belur and Halebid is a short drive away and this could be the perfect place to stay in if you plan to go there. The cottages were spacious and comfortable. The food was great so was the staff - special mention to Amar who went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Trupti and Samrat were such warm and gracious hosts and gave us a detailed tour of their 125-year-old British house on the property. We will surely come back to this place in fair weather to explore this more. Don't forget to buy their estate's coffee. It is heavenly! Highly recommend this place to stay in and if you are lucky you might even get to taste Trupti's world-famous coffee mousse!

I had gone there with friends but definitely looking forward to going there next with family and kids. A true example of excellent hospitality.

We had a great time staying there. Very simple, cute and elegant place. Location is so close to nature, gives us a complete mental detox. Host Amar was very helpful. Food they served was homely, delicious with wide varieties.

We visited the property last weekend and we absolutely loved it. There are 4 cottages, and we had booked all 4 of them. A perfect place for book lovers, as all the cottages are loaded with books. You cant resist from picking up a book, sitting in the verandah and getting lost amidst nature.
Even the food was yummm! The owners personally met us and ensured everything was fine. The estate walk was a nice refresher.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would surely love to visit again.

It's a place to visit if you want to get away from all the traffic and vacation from work stress. It's a very calm environment and perfect place to enjoy your long weekends. The home cooked food is extremely delicious and the hosts are extremely welcoming.

Caring host, loving nature - true environment to relax

Cottages in idyllic surroundings of Hirvate Estate relax your mind. The moderately furnished room and the balcony with garden view were sufficient for us to rest and rejuvenate. Food (in quality & quantity, in veg & non-veg variety) from breakfast to dinner had been fantastic, the sweet dishes need special mention.

Caring attitude of Trupti, the host, was again exemplified with prompt provision of binoculars and a list of local birds, after knowing our interest in bird watching.

The cottages are nestled within coffee and pepper plantation which is within four and half hours drive from Bengaluru; 2-3 days stay here is definitely worth its budget.

We spent 2 delightful days at the Hirvate Estate which made memorable memories Samrat, Trupti and Armaan the little Master Chef kept us entertained throughout our stay.lt was like visiting our extended family more than a home stay Hats off to Samrat and Trupti. Looking forward to coming back.

If you are looking for a short get away from the city but not too far away coz u r lazy to drive then this is the place. Waking up to birds and peacock singing, surrounded by nature and night sky filled with stars. Amazing food, excellent service, kid friendly and the best host and hostess. We had a blast and the kids even more. A must visit! We will be regular customers for sure.

Our trip to Hirvate felt more like visiting our extended family than a home stay. The hosts, Samrat and Trupti were gracious, kind and took care of the small details to make our stay very memorable.

The place in itself is amazing, surrounded by lush coffee estate and trees along with an amazing colonial historical bungalow that takes us to our past in some sense. Food was how you would eat at home - not heavy but sumptuous and non boring.

We did extended trips to Halibeedu and Belur, treks in the estate and to dams all in the vicinity.

Our kids 11 and 8, had young friendly pups and 2 dogs from the estate for company along with the couple's six year old.

We stayed at Hirvate Estate for 3 days and it was one of the most relaxing homestay experiences we have been to. The architecture of these cottages, landscaping, maintenance of the structure and the services all combine to create a wonderful stay for guests looking for a peaceful time away from the city. To top off the serene setting, there is also great food, which is definitely a reason to visit and revisit the place. We loved all our activities at the estate, from long estate walks (beautiful sprawling coffee and pepper plantations), to nearby drive to Wattehole reservoir, to sitting by campfire at the clubhouse area to reading lot of books (well-stocked with books, we also added to the collection:) ). There are so many beautiful trees, flowers to get lost in and most of all, wonderful place for bird watching. It is truly a paradise for peaceful travelers. The staff including Amar are always at help with any queries or assistance. The attention to details of the hosts is amazing. We take back happy memories of a stay that went away in a wink and left us wanting to revisit this beautiful place.

Hirvate is Karnataka's hidden gem and best kept secret. I completely concur with and second the feedback given below. Just returned from a two night stay with my parents who are senior citizens. Samrat and Trupti are wonderful hosts who along with their team went above and beyond to make our stay extremely comfortable and enjoyable. The accommodation is luxuriously cosy, the scenery pristine and unspoilt, the food is mind blowing.with the wonderful aroma wafting from the kitchen making you look forward to the mealtime, the coffee to die for, sounds of silence occasionally interrupted by bird calls or the laughing playfulness of the dogs and their litter, the woods dark and deep, I could go on and on. In short, if you haven't been to Hirvate, you have truly missed something.

Great Place to Stay, It Was an extraordinary experience staying at Hirvate Estate. A Walk in the Estate was quite interesting. There are tree that are around 100 years Old. The rooms are well Maintained. Good place for Bird Watching. We missed out on seeing the Peacock. Food was Good.
