One of the must visit places in Mysuru. It can take up to 1 to 1.5 hours to visit the whole Art Gallery. Entry tickets are reasonable and all monuments are kept in good condition and well maintained.

Amazing and rare collection of great paintings. A large Raja Ravi Verma set, including the magical Lady in Moonlight and Galaxy of Musicians. Haldankar's (glowing) Glow Of Hope also resides here at the end of the gallery! Oh, there's an orginal Rembrandt as well!

Palace and a Art gallery together.
One of the oldest buildings of Mysore, this palace was the palace where the Royal family had resided after the old Mysore palace was burnt during the wedding of Chamaraja Wodeyar’s eldest daughter.
Old Mysore palace was built with wood in the year of 1861.
Unfortunately a fire broke and burnt the entire structure.
Must visit place for those who love painting. Every artist falls in love with those painting. Every painting describes about the history of Mysore. Well maintained and Excellent staff response.
Jaganmohan Palace is rich in royalness. The museum is a well preserved treasure. The facility of audio guide is very useful. It will take around 4hours for satisfactory visit. Worth the time. Outside of the palace there is a saree & perfume shop.
Will definitely recommend to visit once!

This place is clearly an example that one day everything will be forgotten. Some of finest collections of Raja Ravi Varma and many others are well preserved here. It's so sad to see that people don't understand the importance of their history. Staff waits as if they pray that somebody do visits the place. A perfect place to take kids along and introduce them to the rich history of Southern kingdoms and families and their history. King and his family temporarily stayed at this place when Mysore palace had caught fire and was being rebuilt

Preferred the collection of furniture on the 2nd floor and the paintings on the 3rd floor

The ground floor pieces of art were pretty so so

The shop on the right hand side of the main gate as you enter the palace sells lots of interesting articles at reasonable price

Jaganmohan Palace is a palace in the princely city of Mysore,  India. Its construction was completed in 1861 and was initially used by the Wodeyars,  kings of Mysore as their home (when the present majestic Mysore Palace  (Amba Vilas Palace) was under construction after the old palace turned into ashes owing to a fire accident). It is now converted into an art gallery and a function hall. The palace is one of the seven palaces of the royal city of Mysore and one of the most beautiful contributions of the Wodeyar Kings to the city during their regime. The Jaganmohan Palace was constructed in 1861 by the king Krishnaraja Wodeyar III as an alternate retreat for the royal family.  The Mysore Palace, which was the original home of the royal family was burnt down in a fire and the construction of a new palace in its place was started in 1897. Till the new palace was completed in 1912, the Jaganmohan Palace was used by the royals as their home.  In 1902, the king Rajarshi Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar was installed to the Mysore throne, in a ceremony that took place in a pavilion inside the Jaganmohan Palace. This ceremony was attended by Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy and Governor General of India.  The palace was used for his daily durbar by the king and also the special Dasara durbar during the dasara period. In 1915, the palace was converted into an art gallery, which was later renamed in 1955 in the name of HH Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, as the Sri Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery .  The early convocations of the Mysore University were also held in this palace. The first session of the Legislative Council of the Mysore statewas held here in July 1907.  The Legislative Council was then called as the Representative Council and was presided over by the Diwan (Prime Minister of the state). HH Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar converted the palace into a trust and opened it for public viewing.

It is under renovation now but it is a place where most of the royal paintings are kept, one can see paintings of many known painters of that era, specially raja ravi varma paintings are the real spot light

When I went there, some work was going on, but inside the exhibits are well-arranged and catalogued.
Unfortunately, for some inexplicable reason, photography is prohibited inside. I believe photography of public monuments, temples etc should be encouraged so that pictures can be shared and more people would come & visit.
As it is I came across very few visitors, as there is a general perception that there is nothing to see and the building looks a bit dilapidated from the outside
