K Vasudevacharya Bhavana housed within the Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on Jhansi Rani Lakshmi Bai Road in Mysuru is a throwback to an older style of performing arts venue. The entry into the hall feels quick as if one were just stepping into the living room from any of the other rooms. Given that the entrance is at the back, it's easy to step in and step out of without disturbing audience members provided that the back rows are sparsely populated.
The rows of seats aren't graded for height so they're all roughly level within a section. The seats themselves are from an older era of comfort. While that's not a deterrent in my view, for those used to modern day comforts, this may be a bit of a stretch after 3 hours of sitting.
The acoustics rely on large wall-mounted speakers so if you want a good balanced sound reaching your eardrums, it's useful to be seated slightly away from them.
The interiors are somewhat drab and may need redecoration given the standards of modern-day, well-kept concert halls but that may also be down to the availability of funds and the degree of patronage.
We were here for a vocal Carnatic Music concert by Sh. Abhishek Raghuram and had a fulfilling experience. For the price of Rs. 50 (March 2022), this feels like a throwaway! There's no parking if you come here in your own vehicle so you'll have to find a parking lot on the road.
