Lotus Mahal or Chitrangini Mahal is an example of Vijayanagara style of architecture. The structure was used as a residue place for the royal family of the Vijayanagara Empire. The Mahal is secured by 3 checkposts offering protection. Quite magnificent architecture and a must visit place in Hampi.

Lotus Mahal is designed as a palace for royal ladies of those times to mingle around and enjoy recreational activities. The Mahal also served as a meeting point for the King and his ministers. This place is also referred to as a council chamber.

It is one of the fine architecturally designed palaces that are uniquely identified by its lotus look-like structure. This glorious building is within the Zenana Enclosure, a segregated area that is used by the royal women of Vijayanagara Dynasty.

The Lotus Mahal is also called by the name Kamal Mahal or Chitragani Mahal. Its remarkable and unmistakable design is the main highlight of the palace. It is one of only a handful of astonishing buildings in Hampi that had not been damaged or destroyed amid the attack on the city.

24 pillars are present to support the arched windows and balcony of the palace. The walls and pillars are carved beautifully with patterns like sea creatures and birds. They have designed hooks on each corner/pillar to decorate white cloths around the mahal. During the evening this mahal glows and gives a remarkable beautiful look to the visitors. When the lights are turned on, the entire mahal can be seen in a golden colour!

Cooling System at Lotus Mahal architecture:

The ceiling that was used as vents for air conditioning. This was the system used to keep the mahal cold and used as a summer getaway.

The Lotus Mahal had this special structure where the roof and walls had holes with mud pipes throughout the building. There is a well next to the mahal where the queen's helpers would fetch water and pour it from the top. The pipes circulate water and keep the hall/inner space of the palace cooler for days.

Lotus temple is one of most beautiful piece of architecture in Hampi. It is depiction of Indo Persian architecture. The temple is in the queen's palace area of Hampi. There are terecota pipes inside the walls to control the temperature during summers. This is one of the most beautiful structures in Hampi. Very much photogenic. Saw few boys/girls doing a sketching of this structure while sitting on the lawns around the Mahal. There is an entry fee for this Mahal. If you visit during the evening, the evening light just glows the whole mahal making it a stunning visual. Overall nice place.

The place is said to be a part of queens palace. It was one of the palaces built by the king for his queen. It is such a beautiful struysyandinh amidst greenary. The place is very old and hence when we visited support work for the structure was going on hence going inside or near the structure was not permitted.

Well maintained surroundings with beautiful view. Buy the entry ticket at the gate and visit this place. Although some of the monuments around are completely destroyed, it's worth a visit.

This is a lovely place built by the Emperor Krishnadevaraya for his two queens to meet. The architecture provides that the Mahal is naturally air conditioned.

Lotus Mahal is also called as Chitrangi Mahal. This is example of magnificient architectute from Vijayanagara era. It is two storied structure and can find a flight of steps which takes you to the first floor of the architecture. It is believed this palace served as the resting place for the royal family.

This place isn't that great as it is exaggerated. Though Elephant's Stable in the same property was good.

I would rather prefer for Adventure activities Hampi has to offer or drive to any scenic spot than to spend our limited time here.

Good place to visit with family n friends. Involves a descent amount of walking, but having a automobile can cut short the distance since the parking is very near. Entry charges of INR 40 is applicable, however you can use your same day tickets from the Stone chariot temple (no need to pay again)

Daily flights are available between Jindal Vijayanagar Airport (38 Kms from Hampi) to Bengaluru and Hyderabad under UDAAN Scheme. Flights are also available to Hubballi Airport which is 150 Kms away from Hampi.
Hosapete is the nearest railway station which is 12 Kms away from Hampi. Daily trains are available from Hubli and Guntakal junctions to Hosapete.
Ballari District is well connected by Bus through state highway and National Highway. Buses are available to all major cities of karnataka from ballari (65 Kms from Hampi) and Hosapete (12 Kms from Hampi).

It seems that this mansion should be surrounded by a garden, a rest house. The Queen's is still a place to rest. There is a fort around it, and the fort has a guarding tower.

The ruins of a palace are found in the premises of the castle, which some say should have been the queen's palace. On the west corner of the same enclosure is a stucco building, called the Kumararama's Garage (kumararamana garadimane).

(Visited in June 2019) - This is one of the ticketed monuments at Hampi, located adjacent to Elephant stables. It is partly ruined and damaged to the side. The architecture is kind of different, but simple.

The place is really awesome and well
maintained. For Indians the entry fee is about 40rs and for foreigners its about 600 per head. One can find the elephants stable and watch tower nearby to this mahal.

Great Architecture. It is well planned mahal. It was built for Queen/Princess of the kingdom. It has a Beautiful Garden surrounded by it. Mahal has proper ventilation and also well designed to get proper sunlight.

The highlight of the historical sites in Hampi. They charge way too much for the entrance, though, and the staff is very rude, unprofessional, and extremely unhelpful towards tourists.

It is said that the Queen of Krishna Deva Raya used to spend her most of the time seeking pleasure and peace in the palace. The palace also served as a meeting point for the king and his ministers. Kaml Mahl is also referred to as a council chamber in the maps found in 18th century. Kamal Mahal and Chitrangini Mahal are the other names by which it was known earlier. Several musical concerts and other recreation activities were held at this place

Really nice sculpture and elephant's stable is really good along with few remains of other temples such as vishnu and jain temple.

About 5 mins walk from the Queen's bath, the Lotus mahal is of the few places in Hampi that has an entry fee. Preserve your ticket if you plan to visit the Vijay Vitthala Temple on the same day (valid through the day for both the enclosures). The Lotus mahal is one of the many ruins in the enclosure. The area is quite well maintained with a beautiful lawn and some benches in the shades of trees (what a relief in the scorching heat)!

A Specially decorated place for Ladies of Royal Family, which is a the major attraction here. This place was covered with high 3mt.stoney wall and inside there are lovely attractions are awaiting. On the left side one Queen's place (only basement can be seen), opposite to this is pool or bath and on the right of this garden this Lotus Mahal is standing. Quite an interesting place to visit. In all 4 corners one can find 4 watch towers maybe to protect this vulnerable Jenana enclosure, out of them one is completely destroyed.

One of the finest examples of Indo-islamic architecture in India. This unique style was a hallmark of the Vijayanagara Kingdom. The concentric pyramid like arrangement of domes are an element of Hindu temple architecture. The dome itself have a heavy Islamic influence. Each of the arches have the peacock pattern but at the top of the Arch we have Kirti Mukha. It is a two storied symmetrical structure, the skeletal structure is made of granite stones and terracotta bricks with plastering has been used on the outside. Evening after 4 PM gives you the best lighting for photography at this monument.

Still strong and standing. The area is well maintained and has timings to visit. (9am to 6pm).
Used during the summer period this structure has walls built in limestone giving it a natural cool environment to stay. The elephant stables are near this structure.
There is a bath also available and surrounded by watch towers for guarding.

Iconic.
Remember they are part of the ruins in Hampi. So don't expect to see anything luxurious. Just stories of it being so.
I love how clean it is around here as is the rest of the place even with the hawkers around.
Side note. The prices at which the hawkers sell their wares are reasonable unlike most other tourist places in India. Even then, do exercise your right to bargain.
Very important. If visiting in the summer or even close to summer. Stay well hydrated and carry lots of fluids. That heat catches you unaware pretty quickly.

Great place to hang out. It's such a beautiful architecture that its beauty can't be explained in words.

Sneak peek into the architecture of the era. Lot of walking around the place but I feel someone who is interested in the historical information and architecture, it is definitely a place to visit like rest of Hampi. Be prepared for the heat. Carry water and umbrella. If you like to cycle they are available for hire or simple hire one autorickshaw and enjoy the wind in your hair.

A visit to Hampi is not complete without a visit to the Lotus Mahal. A Mahal is a palace. It got its name due to the petal shaped architecture. This was the queen's summer palace. There is an entry fee to access the grounds but it is worth it. Due to a lot of vandalism, you are not allowed to enter the palace but it is a beauty. It has in its close vicinity a few really old trees that make beautiful backgrounds for photographs with their old gnarled bark and fresh green leaves. We visited Hampi at the end of January. The weather was perfect - cool but not hot (even when trekking in the afternoon).
