Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary

Birds are not coming here anymore.feedback from villagers. Travelled 2 hrs from shimoga and was disappointed.

This is a viewpoint beside the road. There is a watch tower. Birds are not always visible. You can find birds in season.

Wate of time, please don't visit there, nothing is there to watch. They need to close this place

The location is Good with green views and Rivers but the time we visited may end and no birds.

Due to a Dam nearby trees were drowned and birds had no place to visit and stay. We are slowly driving out all species around us.

We had gone there and there would be many birds etc.but after going there we found out that all the birds come here during the season

It is not a bird sanctuary anymore because the water level has been raised than what it used to be earlier. We went there late November which is supposed to be right time to view the migrating birds, but there were none.

VERY VERY WORST PLACE. THERE IS NO BIRDS. NOF FACILITY. EVEN NO SITTING PLACE. DOTNT TELL ITS A TOURIST PLACE. WASTE OF TIME. WASTE OF BUS FARE. PLEASE DONT GO THERE.

A beautiful place for bird watchers but very sorry today it's horribly maintained. People throw garbage all over the place, watch tower is about to fall hope government takes action and restores beauty of this place so that bird watchers can come and enjoy this place.

I have been there two times but could never spot a bird. Not at all maintained. Just a pit spot while riding on the way.

Just by the roadside. No birds sighted at 11 am in end July. No amenities even to sit and watch the river flow by. The watch tower is not in a great condition, with 20% of the metal steps broken or not existent. No information boards to know which bird's nest here.

Huge disappointment. Don't know if birds got extinct or they stopped visited this riverside. Don't venture, instead spend more time at sakkarebyle elephant camp.

Nice place however It can be missed as you may not notice this place. One the road from Shimoga to Theerthalli, You can spot it well using the map. We went in off season hence no birds were there. Ideal time to see is Rainy seasons, there is no one to guide you. It's all free and you have a bird watching tree house made up of Iron to watch from high up.

This is not a"BIRD SANCTUARY" I repeat not a "BIRD SANCTUARY" Do not come here with expectations like Rangan Tittuor any other place, It has one badly maintained watch tower and nothing else So if you're an avid bird spotter or a photographer please do not expect much

I was thinking this bird sanctuary would be something like ranganathittu bird sanctuary or something along those lines but was disappointed. There is a board on side of the highway that says this is the bird sanctuary and next to it is a watch tower which bears witness to time. Some of the steps leading up to the top are rusty and may become unsafe to step foot on. There are a few benches that you can sit on near the river but it is a small place, doesn’t make for a good picnic spot. There are a few trees (more like dead branches as seen from the pics) in the middle of the river where birds nest. Not sure if this was the right time to visit and see the birds or if there is a peak season to see more brids, you might want to do your homework on that. You will need a telephoto >250mm if you need good close up pics of the brids.
If you plan to pass by that way, can stop for a few minutes and be on your way but wouldnt recommend going out of the way to visit this place. There are no stores or shops nearby just a km or 2 down the road, there are hotels and stores where you can get drinks/snacks.

Nothing great to see. One spot where we need to wait but it is by the road side. So traffic etc does not allow any birds to come. Could not see any birds when I visited.

Once a great place for Birding. Now there's no boating nor the place isn't maintained well. Visit only if it's on your way. No point in exclusively visiting.

It's not a sanctuary, just a road side stop. Even that is not maintained, no staff, no provisions, nothing. It's not a tourist destination or anything.

Good place but lack of maintenance.i think govt is ignoring this beautiful place.need some improvement.

Very good place but small.because of the rising of the dam water is flowing in high level and it's dangerous for birds.you can get pelican and cranes which were migrated from other places.

Nice place for bird lovers.you can watch lots of migrated birds here. Please take out DSLR camera so that you can take a nice snap of colorful birds

Don't go to this place it's just a river bank and in middle there is a tree with birds wasted 1hr for travelling and disappointed because nothing to enjoy there

It is located near Mandagadde. Which can seen from the highway. Best place to visit during rainy season

Nothing curious about this spot, no developments are made for visitors. Just a place appear on road side. Not clean.

Wonderful to see when birds are around, you can even see the swans in the night. Have been here couple of times when birds are not around. So season is importy

Place is just Fantastic. In this location the Highway runs beside Tunga river. Not so easy to spot since many trees are planted beside road. White Crane which are normally found across karnataka have made their nest here! They have gathered in lot number around 100-200. For wildlife photography this place is perfect. You can capture the birds on flight on various angles and poses. You can hardly spend more that 30 minutes here since there is nothing much more then watching birds. They are always there since White cranes mate whole year. Worth to visit once,!

3 types of birds are only available (very rear to find others), there's no maintenance, and it's on the road side and there's no charge to watch

Lucky to see some birds, I visited towards the evening which seems to be a ideal time. You may not see variety of birds though

Variety of birds are available to watch with boating. Very cool place and away from city noise, tension and pollutions.

It is small area compared to rangathittu, may be 2 hecres, very next to main road, easy to miss.
Not many birds to catch up.
No boating, no restaurant nearby.
For bird photography, 2 view points, need >500mm lens, with extender if possible.

ಮಂಡಗಡ್ಡೆ ಪಕ್ಷಿಧಾಮವು ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗದಿಂದ 30 ಕಿ. ಮೀ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿ ತೀರ್ಥಹಳ್ಳಿ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ.  ಮಂಡಗಡೇ ಪಕ್ಷಿ ಧಾಮ ತುಂಗಾ ನದಿಯ ದಡದಲ್ಲಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ದಟ್ಟವಾದ ಹಚ್ಚ ಹಸಿರಿನಿಂದ ಆವೃತವಾಗಿದೆ.  ಈ ಸ್ಥಳವು ವಿಶ್ವದಾದ್ಯಂತದ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಿಂದ ವಲಸೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಪಿಕ್ನಿಕ್ ತಾಣವಾಗಿದೆ.  ಎಗ್ರೇಟ್ಸ್, ಬೆಲ್ಲಾಕ್ಕಿ ಕಾರ್ಮೊರೆಂಟ್, ಡಾರ್ಟರ್, ಸ್ನೇಕ್ ಪಕ್ಷಿ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳಂತಹ ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳು, ಮೇ ಋತುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂತಾನೋತ್ಪತ್ತಿಗಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ವಿವಿಧ ಭಾಗಗಳಿಂದ ವಲಸೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತವೆ.

We visited this place on 2nd March 2019, sad part is that we could not find birds, not sure the time we visited was right or not. Otherwise it's a pleasant place with no crowd. You can spend 10-20 minutes near the bank of the river.

Shabby place, no maintenance. Didn't find a single bird there during dec. Locals told me birds are found during rainy season.
