Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary Kodachadri

An arduous off road Jeep journey from Kollur, followed by a steep climb on foot to Kudajadri shrine where Sri Sankaracharya is believed to have attained the seat of supreme knowledge (sarvajna peetam)

Kollur Mookambika sanctuary around the temple, it is part of Kudurmuk Wildlife Sanctuary. Public visiting this locality mainly for visiting Mookambika Temple. The revenue forest land around Temple almost completely encroached by locals by violating Kasturi Rangan's report on buffer zone protection of wild life sanctuary!

Trekking enthusiasts can also hike to this jungle from the forest office at the bottom of the hill. Interested people can also visit the two non-descript temples situated on this hill. Very well-maintained forest in the Western Ghats of Karnataka which connects Udupi and Shimoga Region

I didn't like much cos I wanted a good place to trekk but the location isn't even moderately tough. Reaching here would need u to take the sharing jeeps from the Mookambika town itself. After a mountainous Jeep ride u gotta be ready for a extremely bumpy off road forested ride. But I must say the end result isn't commensurate to the trouble one takes to reach here unless ur primary purpose is to make a religious visit. Monsoon is the best time to visit.

Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected wildlife sanctuary in the southern state of Karnataka in India. [1][2][3][4][5] It derives its name from the presiding deity "Goddess Mookambika" of the popular Kollur Mookambika Temple. [6] The sanctuary lies in the Western Ghats in Udupi district of Karnataka. The sanctuary consists of an area of 274 km2  (106 sq mi) was notified in the year 1974, by the Government of Karnataka vide notification AFD. 48. FWL. 74 dated 17 June 1974

One can go by vehicle upto Valur forest check post (4 km from main road Gurthe).
We went on trekking from Valur forest check post.

Enjoyed scenic western ghat trek till Sarvajna Peeta.

Total three and half hour trek with enough rest in between.

Best time to visit is Nov-Jan.

We had Chitranna and buttermilk at Bhattra mane (where Jeep ride ends).

Kodachadri is one of the best well kept place away from all the city hassels. Climb it and enjoy the best view in the world.

Beautifull Place to visit, especialy those who are interested in wildflower photogrpahy. Best time to visit July to September.

Awesome place for trekking, beware of leeches. Else this trekking is good. This trekking is not difficult one or the easy one. Lot to climb, but it can be done.

Best way to reach kodachadri hills is to go through hilduman falls. There are many ways to go including direct zip to top of hill but for treeking get down at nittur and do trekking to top of hills. If u like trekking in rain, raining season is best.caution -Leeches will be there, so wear full track pant.avoid jeans.u can stay on top of hills but limited entry is there.

To see this something on the skillful paths seems rather unlikely. Who wants up to the Kodachadri peak has two main options: to book a jeep for 2000 rupees, which is filled with so 6 passengers will, alone it is not ever there anyway. It's a wildlife sanctuary situated in the Uduppi district of Karnataka state. It's named after goddess Mookambika of Kollur Mookambika temple. The temple itself and the famous Kodachadri hills lies inside the sanctuary. It's home to diverse wild life. There are a few trekking trails and a jeep route from the temple to Kodachadri peak. The main trekking trail starts from Karakkatte in Shimoga route and passes through dense forest. The famous Santhosh hotel lies in this trail. The other trekking trail starts from nittoor and passes through Hidlumane waterfalls

We covered most of the area on Jeep, which was a really great ride tracking through the deep forest areas covered with fog the scene is very peaceful to eyes and soul and rest part we trekked which was again a fantastic experience and there are two temples at this location wich you need to visit becoz the location at which it is placed is awesome. The only thing I want to say is "heaven is myth but this place is real "

Good place to trek jeeps may not be available up top u have to pay extra to get still awesome place to trek

We went to kudajadri during heavy rains. A local jeep took us near summit. The place had great ambience and lot of leaches. We also went near a cave on the other side of the hill. There were only leaches on that route and was very steep. But was worth it.

Good trekking experience. It takes nearly three hours to up and two hours for down walk. Gets different fragrance at different levels of forests and sounds of beetles welcomes.

Calm, rejuvenating, divine and an amazing place to visit. The temple and its surrounding places are serene and you will feel close to nature.

It's a good trekking experience in kodachadri. Atmosphere was pleasant during this time of year. At night temperature was around 10 degree celcius
