It is 20/- for indian nationals and 450/- for foreigners. They have a beautiful collection of modern crafts, sculptures and paintings. I visited during weekdays so it was not at all crowded and i got the entire place to myself. They had 3 big halls full of art which were well lit and maintained. If you scan and download an app you can hear all about the art. They had a museum shop, a small cafe and a library.

There's a great Dakoji retro-an artist printer. But the number of English grammar mistakes in the notes is glaring.

This is the first time, I have visited a Art Museum. The Museum is maintained by the central Government. It is very spacious. Many of the artists Art will be displayed here for a certain period. During my visit Devraj Dakoji art is the highlight. The arts keep changing. The entry ticket is only Rs 20 for age above 18 for Indian Nationals. It is Rs 500 for foreigners. People who like art will enjoy Much. It's open upto 7.30 pm on weekends except Mondays where it is a holiday. You can check their website about which artists paintings are being displayed. Overall worth watching if you are in Bangalore. Some times they organise events too for the public which I too would like to join

Very spacious, great art works from various artists. The building is as pretty as the art pieces. Entrance fees is twenty rupees, which is next to nothing for seeing such amazing artworks. Quite a peaceful place, there’s a cafe here as well.

The National Gallery of Modern Art is a Bangalore art gallery. It was officially opened in 2009. It exhibits modern Indian art and houses works by Raja Ravi Verma, Jamini Roy, Amrita Sher-Gil, Rabindranath Tagore, and many other modern and contemporary artists. The NGMA Bengaluru, which has an auditorium, a public art reference library, a restaurant, and a museum store cum facilitation block, aspires to become a nexus of art activity and a major cultural destination in Bengaluru.

Throughout the year, the gallery arranges and presents talks on art and culture by lecturers, seminars, film screenings, workshops, and guided walks. The new exhibition space is fantastic, especially the light wells, which add a moody dramatic impact to the perpetual show halls. It's a great example of adaptive reuse in architecture, and I wish there were more of them. The tickets are relatively cheap, and I was able to get in for free because of a weekly offer.

There is also a cafe with tasty meals. There are also more than three courtyards that allow nature to enter the views, showcasing the sunlight, vegetation shadows, and so on. A fantastic destination for architecture and art students alike.

Tickets can be purchased at the entry gate beginning at 11 AM. Students under the age of 18 are admitted for free. Visitors pay ₹20, while foreigners pay ₹500. You will be given lockers to store your possessions, and at the entrance, you will notice exquisite wooden carved jewelry boxes, as well as actual paintings.

As you progress, you will notice various artworks and sculptures. Because it is not maintained, no one notices the Mirror Lake. And the copper automobile, which was my favorite there. The staff is quite pleasant and courteous. You are not permitted to take photographs in the first two hallways since the paintings and jewelry boxes are real and will be maintained. And the canteen on the inside is excellent.

Great place but the maintenance is horrible. The lift not working, my 83 year old mom couldn't see the whole place. The locker room is empty I had to wait for half an hour before anyone came to open the locker for me. Very sad.

I love visiting museums. The peaceful atmosphere and friendly staff along with the intricate and unique paintings and sculptures makes this place a must visit for museum lovers and explorers. You can buy many souvenirs too like tote bags, post cards, coasters and paintings.

The ticket is ₹20 only per person. For that price the place was very good and it was a very good experience. You can click pictures of the art only. They have cafe also and clean washrooms too. The staff was polite and helpful.

I personally enjoyed the place and collection. But don't visit just because travel slites suggest. It is for those who like art. Parking is good but bags cannot be taken inside. They allow mobile photography but not the use of dslr. The place don't have a proper drinking water availability.

A wonderful experience. The art gallery is housed In an old restored building, high gabels with marvelous architecture. Best for day long weekend visits.
28 अगस्त 2022 9:05
Grear art collection. Would be a better experience if the guards didn't breath down our necks as if we're gonna pull some art heist. Not a fan of the hasty chaperoning either.
25 अगस्त 2022 13:21
Most arrogant people on earth I've seen. Only one gallery is open rest all galleries are in maintenance and they have the audacity to sell tickets! Substandard food served at high prices in the so called cafeteria. They should close if they are under maintenance. I lost one day fighting in traffic 90 mins to reach here. The worst time wasting I've done in my life.
A foreign couple paid 1000 rs. They were stunned to see only one gallery with 3 piece of cloth was the only thing there to see. They were robbed by the government in day light literally!
12 अगस्त 2022 18:48
Only good for those who have interest in art, painting, crafts etc. Not that great place. Quite boring. Not so photogenic place. They will not allow you to take photos inside that. Natural and peaceful place. For 2 hours you will forget that you are in middle of banglore city. Nothing national is there, it feels like personal museum of Shaswat Maharathi.
27 जुलाई 2022 22:22
I really love the architecture. But i think the staff could be a little more sweet as they could just hover around you to not take personal pictures of yourself. I also think they could be a little more descriptive about the art.
15 जुलाई 2022 13:21
Although not as huge and amazing as the NGMA of Delhi, this tiny place has its own charm, telling the story of art and weaves in the history of India. Loved the tana bana installation that runs throughout the building. The insights into the life of Upendra Maharathi was inspiring. Loved every moment of the visit.

The best part was that they had students discount as well, and you could buy prints of your favourite artists from the souvenir shop.

The National Gallery of Modern Art, Bengaluru was set up in the premises of the Manikyavelu Mansion at 49 Palace Road, Bangalore and opened to the public on 18th February, 2009. Spread over an area of 3.5 acres, the gracious heritage building was transformed from a residence into an Art Gallery, with a display space of 1551 square meters to which a new gallery block with a display space of 1260 sq.m. Was added. The architecture of the additional block was designed in such a fashion that it merges with the style and ambience of the heritage Manikyavelu Mansion while at the same time fulfilling the requirements of a modern museum.

Great place to have some really good time. But to hell with the security guards mann. Literally they where behind me n my partner as if we were robbers n our only aim is too steal the painting. Literally they were not telling us breathe also. Requesting management to look into the matter. We were literally not enjoying the art

A beautiful place where Maharati's paintings and other artefacts have been show cased in a pretty old building but we'll maintained. The whole place is spread over acres of land and the building is in the centre and surrounded by lush green trees and plants and lawns with stone carvings kept to enhance the beauty of the place. Tickets for Indian Nationals is Rs 20 whereas it is Rs 500 for foreign nationals. There are four galleries spread over ground floor and first floor. Lighting is good and the cool AC keeps the people pleasant. Maharati's personal belongings are also kept there. One can take individual photos of the exhibited pics but no videos are allowed and no combined photo of the displayed pics is allowed. Guards are there in each floor to guide and check people coming to watch the paintings. It takes one hour to see everything in detail. Each pic is explained. Covid19 protocol strictly followed. Temperature is checked and sanitizer kept in handy. It's located on palace road ️ and there's ample place for parking. Wheelchair access to ground floor is there but not to the first floor. The greenery adds beauty to the whole place. Police too are placed to monitor nothing untoward happens. The paintings are more than 5 to 7 decades old and have been preserved extremely well. In one portion the painting was left out perhaps. All important personality have been painted. Worth the money for painters especially.

Highly informative. Came to know about a great personality and his versatile artistic achievements. Would surely recommend paying a visit.

The exhibition at this gallery of artist, sculptor and architecture designer Upendra Maharathi was mind blowing. The support staff at the venue were mostly kind.
06 जून 2022 9:09
Museum has a ground floor where all the art pieces by the students are kept for sale. You can get an experience of a gallery there with free of cost. The art museum needs an entry fee.
07 फरवरी 2022 18:11
Very inspiring! The gallery is mainly based on works of Upendra Maharathi. The arts show clear depiction of his times, Buddhism influence on him, etc
19 जनवरी 2022 5:57
Visited for the Upendra Maharathi exhibition. The exhibition was curated well presenting the artists work and life in a manner close to the essence of his work. Some of his works were truly emotional especially the departure of Buddha on canvas. The canvas works and the canvas potraits are in later stages of the exhibition where I truly felt how immense he was. I had never come across Upendra Maharathi and was surprised by the contribution he made. Gandhi, Buddha and Shiva were recurring themes in his works. Enjoyed the show. Art lovers and anyone with interest in Bengal school will enjoy this.

The gallery has beutiful architecture. One can truly sit there for hours. Get a book and you can spend some good time here. There is library too.
17 जनवरी 2022 1:36
The Gallery is closed, though you could visit the ever calm and pristine premises. Also, enquired from front desk and was informed that most likely it would be back in business by early November

National Gallery of Modern Art is an art gallery in Bangalore. It was inaugurated in the year 2009. It showcases modern Indian art and houses paintings by Raja Ravi Verma, Jamini Roy, Amrita Sher-Gil, Rabindranath Tagore and a large number of Modern and Contemporary artists. [1] Equipped with an auditorium, a public art reference library, a cafeteria, and a museum shop cum facilitation block, the NGMA Bengaluru looks ahead to becoming a hub of art activities and a major cultural centre at Bengaluru. The gallery organizes and hosts talks on art and culture by speakers, seminars, film screenings as well as workshops and guided walks throughout the year.
The gallery was being refurbished in 2006 to open as the third site of NGMA. This follows a prolonged period of development and controversy. [3] The sprawling, 100 year old Manikyavelu Mansion once belonged to Vilum Manickavelu Mudaliar the, a Yuvaraja of Mysore. Mudalier was not born into aristocracy, but rather married into it. He became a successful business owner after leasing several manganese and chrome mines on lease. According to the documents in the NGMA archives, the building was bought by Mudalier early on in his career. The archivists at the NGMA are certain that Mudalier and his family lived in the mansion for quite some years. However, due to financial problems, the house was put on auction and was acquired by the City Improvement Trust, currently the BDA, and then transferred to the Housing Board in the 1960s. In 2000, the Ministry of Kannada and culture sub-leased the mansion to the Ministry of Culture. It became the chosen location for the southern centre the NGMA. Restoration began in 2003, and opened on 18 February 2009 under the curatorial ship of Sobha Nambisan.

NGMA is one of the best Art galleries in the country. Most of the works on display here are those owned by the government. So many Indian masters are on display at the NGMA. There is also an amazing store where they sell books and art posters at nominal prices. Since November 1st 2021, gallery has opened to visitors. They charge 20 rupees for entry per person. Its a good place to get introduced to Indian art even if you have zero knowledge.

Its an awesome place to visit with kids, takes easily an hour to two based on your interest towards Arts!
29 दिसंबर 2021 20:26
Beautiful place, the ticket for only the gallery is 20 Rs. It will take you an average of 1 and a half hour to finish touring the museum. Photography is not allowed inside but other than it's really good and a place you should definitely visit if you like art.

My experience at NGMA was really good. We were taken from our college (Gopalan School of Architecture and Planning), for a site visit. We learnt many things and the ambience was really peaceful. All the spaces were well defined and purposeful. The visit was worth it.

As students of Gopalan school of architecture and planning, we had visited the gallery for a case study. It is very beautiful place to learn more about fine arts.

The vibe and ambience here is calming.
Although the art available there is not much interesting.
13 दिसंबर 2021 0:35
Very beautiful place, We were taken here as a site visit from Gopalan school of architecture, lot of tree, fountains, they also have a inside parking space, it would take max 2 hour to go around the museum. Photography is prohibited but you can carry your sketchbook inside to sketch the surroundings, it has some good open spaces where you can spend some time with friends, overall very good place, must visit

Beautiful place which has beautiful art, the gift shop is reasonably priced and the place is maintained well

The cafe is a hit or miss, depending on the caterer. But the gallery is always quiet, and has a great collection of bengal school art. The cafeteria's seating area is also a nice place to hang out in general.
26 नवंबर 2021 11:43
It is the place for art lovers. The gallery features paintings by some of the greatest artists. It has a cafeteria where you sit in silence and sip tea. There is a library full of art books. Overall a great place to visit and a must go, multiple times for art lovers.
26 नवंबर 2021 4:44
It is really good place. They should rename it as maharathi art gallery, since all the exhibits are his creations
23 नवंबर 2021 17:58
20 rupees for adult and worth one time visit. Maharathi who was famous for his Buddhists, japanese design and art, his belongings, design, sketches are all present
04 नवंबर 2021 8:27
If you are planning to go for one day trip for a museum with your family. It is one of the most recommended place to go. I really like this place.
18 जनवरी 2021 21:07
Chilled out art gallery filled with curios and interesting paintings from age old ones to modern art. Check out it's store on the way out to get gorgeous reprints of paintings and art books. If you lucky, you will get to see guest artist gallery or attend an interesting art talk with celebrated artists/teachers.

#Incredible India #अतुल्यभारत

This place is incredibly amazing and peaceful, just you have to devote yourself to get the placid vibes. Well art is present both inside as well as outside of the complex. Artwork of the great painters like Sanjitha Shankar, Amrita Shergill, MF Hussain, Jaya Ganguly, Thomas Danielle etc are preserved and showcased beautifully. Many of the paintings are timeless. The gallery is surrounded by plush green gardens and sculptures. A cafeteria is also available inside the NGMA which is like an icing on the cake. The architecture of the building is also really nice, all the rooms have got good amount of natural light with high wooden ceilings. The security guards will hover around you every second as you step inside the gallery to stop people from clicking pictures. The environment is so peaceful that one can spend hours sitting here & have some good chit-chat with family & friends. Restroom is available. Gardens are also maintained quite well, hats off to the landscaping team. There is an inhouse gallery store to buy memorabilia and the prices of the articles are also nominal. Entry fee is Rupee 20. Parking space is also quite good for both 2 & 4 wheelers.
Outside pictures attached as inside photography is not allowed and is offensive.

We checked the website for times and took a taxi down. Very disappointed to learn half of the museum was closed though no update was made on the website. It was already disappointing foreigners are charged 500 rupees while locals pay 20. Too much and feels unfair especially for only half the exhibits. We didn’t go in.

This place is an eye opener to the world of art, it's a beautiful place of inspiration for people interested in art, design, creative beginners and geniuses. Or it could be your quite inspirational getaway. But a must visit, the quite just helps you and a few bits just moves you. Enjoy
03 अप्रैल 2020 18:25
Parking for about 15 cars available and is mostly not filled. Loos are clean. Guards are polite but watchful. The cafeteria has a very small menu, a few baked items and some cakes. The gift shop is not well stocked. There are two wings, modern and old. Both have a fairly limited collection of art. The art is by a limited set of Indian artists and is not very exhaustive by geography or cultures. The mansion which houses the gallery is the best part about the gallery - it has a small garden, a small fountain which isn't functional, one really really large tree and some "modern" sculptures. May be the artistically inclined will feel happy to visit. However, in comparison to renowned art galleries across the world it is a let down. For people from Bengaluru this is a worthwhile place to spend an evening. Entry is reasonable for Indian citizen but is steep for foreigners. I left with the feeling that it was way short of the expectation from an art gallery.
