The boating experience in this bird sanctuary is just awesome. Though one has to face a long queue for their turns even after purchasing the boating ticket at the entrance. But the 15-20 minutes will fill you with joy. So many birds and crocodiles living peacefully without causing any disturbance.
Birdwatchers must explore this.
Entry plus boating ticket 175 rupees.
The boatmen told the name of each species - hopefully those names are accurate. In winter, more migratory birds come.

Great place to explore migrated birds during November to May. Definitely recommend place for nature lovers.

Need to purchase tickets from the main counter along with admission tickets if needed to do boating, there is some minimum birds you can see while boating, it will last around 20 - 30 mins, good time and season will give great spotting, even crocodiles can be seen swimming nearby you.
The guide or the person who takes you on the boat explains well the area and species which you see while passing by.

It's an amazing experience. Must try.
Get tickets for boat ride at the entrance. Also for camera if you do have one. People at the boat ride ticket checking were plain rude, suggest you to avoid conversations.
We unfortunately ended up with a loud chattering group of people. So that's pure luck: P
But the boatman/guide was really nice and gave decent information even though the group was loud and bothersome.
Note to people: please don't be loud when traveling to natural places.

Great place for boating. Please enquire before whether boating is there or not.will be able to see birds? And crocodile near you

Great place to watch different varieties of birds, the river Kaveri.but need to have a small good hotel inside.

Its one of the largest bird sanctuary in India. This area comprises of inlets of Kaveri river. The area was converted into a bird sanctuary by the insistence of Salim Ali, a well known ornithologist to the then king of Mysore.
Its near to Mysore and we came here to visit in a bike. Boating is available and visitors can enjoy the ride. There are some scary stories involving the crocodiles but i cant seem to verify its authenticity. There are certain seasons in which there is a large nesting of birds. The water has crocodiles which one can see during the boat rides. There is limited sites to stay nearby and its always advisable to come from Mysore.
There is a pelican island in which there are around 50. These stay here permanently. Overall this is a great place to visit for nature lovers
Note: If rainy seasons the boats might be cancelled. So the plan can change suddenly

The boating inside the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is indeed a wonderful experience. They will give life jackets before boarding. The jackets we got were new. It was a 15-20 minutes in the lake. You will see a lot of birds in the small island. We saw a crocodile in the lake very close to our boat. I have added a video of the crocodile also.
