This is located next to karanji lake (near butterfly park so the back of Lake to be exact) it might be a bit of a task to find it but it's worth it because the place is so majestic and beautiful i visit here every time someone new is in Mysore, i always take them here not just for a look inside the museum but for the rice flora and fauna around it.we even saw a peacock in the parking once and another time we got entrance to karenji lake too.

Many part of the museum is closed for renovation. This can be improved ny adding more information.

My child (4yr old) enjoyed his visit to the museum. Exhibits are good and educational. No entry fee. They have an educational movie that is played frm 12-1pm and 3-4pm ; however, since there was some maintenance work going on the day we visited, there were no shows. There is a temporary exhibit on "mahseer fish" ongoing currently. Can spend 45 mins to 1 1/2 hrs here based on your interest and age of your child. Parking and restroom facilities available. I would like to take my child again once he is older and can understand things better. I feel It's more suitable for ages 6 and up

Very good place for children's and very informative. They conduct few compitation like quiz and drawing painting, during summer holidays, based on wild life for children. There is an auditorium.they show wild movies on weekends for children.

Very cooperative staff, amazing stuffed animals, the evolution depicted pretty well, and the huge whale skeleton was a sight.
When you get that travel spare time, and u have no place to go, don't think twice. It's in the city limits, ola is available, and even if u didn't like inside, the outside is green and calm.

One place to know the different types of raagi, seeds and millets - just visit here. Never knew that there are so many types of Raagi. Their Collection of seeds, shells and animal Artifacts are great.

Only thing to improve is a guided tour which would add more value. Can charge for these services and would be good revenue generation too.

My son had visited this place as part of his school trip. He then took all of us to watch. It's a great place to go to.to get to know a lot about dinosaurs millets Mysore and beautiful puma on display. 3 hours well spent there

The galleries emphasize the conservation of nature and natural resources while depicting ecological interrelationship among plants and animals. Visually challenged students can feel the exhibits of animals on the premises. The museum provides an extracurricular activity for schools and promotes environmental awareness.

Well maintained, varied (from biodiversity, life through the ages, to commerce use of plants. Half finished, not publicised, displays interesting, but more interactive or guided would have been excellent.

Definitely its a place to have a look at the collection but doesnt live upto the standards of other museums. As just a regional museum a one time visit place

A wonderful place to hangout with kids and explore many facts. Lovely and sel-explanatory exhibits. A good place to start introducing the topics to kids on nature, ecology, and environment around us.
An hour or so would be enough to go around the place.

A well maintained museum unknown to many. Entry is free. A good place to visit school students. They are expanding the galleries and incorporating contemporary art and exhibition regularly. Temporary exhibit gallery is also available which is filled with theme and occasion based displays. You are sure to be more knowledgeable when you walk out of the museum.

On visiting the Museum of Natural history, was simply surprised to see only a few visitors were present in such a large museum; clearly it feels this treasure trove of information needs more publicity by both visitors and the Government as well.took me almost 3hrs to complete my tour and appreciate the information gathered in this museum. The Museum administrator spent some of his time explaining various sections of the place.was amazing to hear from him how much effort has gone into providing information and maintainance of the place.

It is really time well spent once you how well they've pieced together so much of history on our country as well as of the region (Mysore state in pre-independance days was an even bigger state than what is just a city these days.so the rich flora, fauna of the place have been well recorded).

One of the prominent attraction of historical city of Mysore is Regional Museum of Natural History. It was established in 1995. Its main objective is to provide awareness about environment and its conservation. This museum tries to educate people to preserve the natural treasures of the country.

Unlike some fake museum in Mysore this place is legit and has a night at the museum vibe to it.the artifacts are well kept and maintained.good place to learn some natural history

How can I not write about this place from a long time. This is the place where I first played a PC game related to Science on a field trip from Primary School. Gosh the Win 95 systems are still there. Regional Museum of Natural History is about 6Km from Mysore and 142Km from Bangalore. The Regional museum of Natural history has galleries that deal with different topics regarding Biological diversity, Ecology, Conservation of Nature and Evolution. The museum also runs the theatre show which is about the wild life and the museum is all about life evolution on planet earth and history. Museum has artifacts which were extremely informative, knowledgeable and fun to learn. Definitely a must visit with young children and Kids. Kids will definitely enjoy to see lifesize stuffed wild animals in original skin

The entry to this place is free, this is the best part because now a days anywhere you go you cannot enter without a fee. The museum has different divisions one is on the seed and plants, then evolution of Earth and living beings, forest, endangered animals etc. It is a great place for kids (age group 6 and above) who start to know and learn about evolution, animals (real stuffed animals, taxidermy insects displayed) plants etc. A must visit place in Mysore, well maintained, quite and educational.
