This place is 40-45 mins drive from Sakleshpur. It's an abandoned gothic church with most of its structure being ruined located near the river bank. You can enjoy a beautiful sunset.
We went on weekday.so less crowded.few photography for pre wedding was going on especially evening time.we spent around 4 hrs just by sitting at one place having small talks. I would recommend to go to this place especially weekdays to enjoy calmness and peace.
A beautiful location with an old ruined Church in a scenic backwaters backdrop. Hemavathi backwaters. This is a must visit for lovers of weekend getaways. Following video on "Motraveler Akshay" YouTube channel provides complete details. YouTube video link: https://youtu.be/tPOF7prUJgk? Si=Xmye-s5QLarX06zr? Sub_confirmation=1
Beautiful place for relaxation with family on the bank of dam The submerged church during rainy season gives its glorious beauty An gothic style British built church was later had to vacate due to dam construction
A captivating experience! The Shettihalli Church is a historical gem. Standing amidst the waters of the Hemavati Reservoir, this 19th-century church exudes an aura of serenity and timelessness. A must-visit for history enthusiasts and those seeking a peaceful escape.
Nice place to visit once. Good to visit during the afternoon and early evening time. Might get spooky during the late hours. No houses or colonies near the location. Seems to be a place to wonder about its origin, civilization and the history around it.
There are few vendors, who sell water, juice and snacks in portable vehicles. Saw a party having their pre Wedding shoot.
Can go there by car and bike. No tickets necessary. Maybe they should recognise it as a tourist spot and maintain it.
It's just a beautiful wreck which is not monitored by authorities and is abandoned to go unnoticed by the majority.
Shettihalli Rosary Church is a ruined floating church in the Gorur Hemavathi Reservoir. There was nothing noteworthy to denote this places as it’s not properly maintained but definitely it’s a monuments that is enriched with scenery.
Read about this place on Quora, for being OK for a solo ride. I took my first solo bike to this place, and it was so exhilarating, that I kept going till I reached Mangalore and Udupi.
I went in November, and since it was raining heavily during this time, the church was submerged under water.
After the tiring 200km ride, I parked my bike, took of my riding gears off, and sat in front of the lake. The fresh air and the subtle sound of water, was very peaceful and exactly what I needed.
I will probably visit again in the summer, when the lake dries up and you actually get to go inside this abandoned church.
Right time to visit this church as it is surrounded by water now road to this location not in good condition but maps location is accurate about 50m is off road no other facilities like food, drinking water are available
A sunken church built by the French in 1865. On the river Hemavathi that has a dam n is flooded when it rains heavily.quite recent in history when compared to Hoysala temples which are 1100-1300. Reminded me of a huge film set! Very picturesque where a number of bikers visit. Has a new cafe near by. Too bad that a lot of food packing waste is strewn around like most places in our country.
Shettihalli Rosary Chruch almost drowned in Hemavathi back waters. Shettihalli Church (referred to as Sathalli in colonial documents) is located 2km from Shettihalli, Hassan, in Karnataka. Built in the 1860s by the French missionaries in India, the church is a magnificent structure of Gothic Architecture. After the construction of the Hemavati Dam and Reservoir in 1960 the church was abandoned. It has since then become a famous tourist spot where people flock to see the half submerged church during monsoon. It is also known as The Submerged Church and The Floating Church.
Good place to visit post December may be. But this place is famous for photoshoots. Through rainy and most of winders the church is submerged or flooded with water.
Nice place to visit. It's a diversion we took while going to sakhleshpur. When we went in October, the church was under water which made it more scenic.
This church in rainy season is under water and when the water goes down church is visible. This church was built in 1860s and has some french connection
Serene view of the church beside the river bund. This church will be half submerged during rainy season abs if you want go inside the church you need to visit any time other than rainy season
On our way to Nirvara Plantation Stay in Saklesphur, we decided to take a little detour to this beautiful church in the village of Shettihalli. This church was built by the Europeans about 160 odd years ago. It is built near the banks of the river Hemvathi and is surrounded by lush greenary and water all around it.
Lost in ages, this church is very unique. During summer you can literally go inside the church and take some breathtaking pictures while in the monsoon it is impossible to reach the church as it would be submerged in the water. This is because of the dam that is built close-by. Shettihalli Church is surely a must visit during both the seasons as each of the experiences would be much different from the other.
When we visited Shettihalli Church, we could not even see 90% of the ruin as it was completely submerged in the river. We entered the river close by to the ruin and were able to have a lot of fun in the water. Usually you would have coracle rides to take us around the ruin but it was not available when we had visited the place.
It is situated around 205kms from the city of Bengaluru, so it would be a good 3 hour drive if you would want to complete this in a single day. However, if you are visiting Sakleshpur like we did then that would be the perfect opportunity to stop by at Shettihalli church and have a great time.
Nice place for photoshoots. 206KM from Bangalore. Better to visit during Summer or Winter months, otherwise the reservoir is filled with water, which makes this site inaccessible.

Please don't visit with family after evening as there is so many mallpracticse going on there, please do visit in early morning to enjoy the nature and must visit in starting of monsoon.
A wonderful piece of historical architecture to behold. Wouldn't recommend going during the monsoon season as most of the church is submerged. Unfortunately, like most of our cultural heritage sites, this has become another garbage dump. Government needs to take some initiative to clean it up and make the pathway more accessible to the church
We had travelled via Hassan. The road to this place is not much wide across, but filled with vegetation on the way. After driving about 12kms, back water of the Earthen Hemavathi Dam can been seen. The main road itself is parking space, you have a bridge ahead in 300-500mts across the backwaters of the river from where the Submerged Church was visible. As on 15.08.2021, church was only 1-15% visible as the reservoir was at 90%. The feeling of Cool fresh air breeze flowing across on the bridge was very much relaxing after the drive. Cloudy weather, clean Water!
Request all to be responsible in carrying the plastic waste along with you and not dumping into the water or surrounding.
Planning a day drive/ride go for it.after shettihalli church visit you can continue to go to sakaleshpura whr you can visit Mukanamane falls and then Bisileghat

This place is situated near by Hassan. A cool late near by ruined church. Best suitable for photoshoots. I visited here in a summer evening. Enjoyed a lot with family.

Lovely place to spend some time. The back waters and the church add to the tranquility of the place. We visited in the evening and the cool breeze was most welcome.
The place is all in ruins. The structure stands adjacent to the bank of a river and gives a wonderful antique feeling. One can take great pictures here and spend an hour along the Riverside here. Although I read that the church is submerged in water most of the time however it was not the case in the month of March.
Witness to changing times and civilisation. A piece of history. Silent observer of flowing time. A must visit. Please be sensible to not throw wastes here and there. Don't do anything that can spoil the surviving architecture.
The place is good. During monsoon season it'll be good. This is near shettyhalli Hassan. The construction wad done during 16th century AD. The river hemavathi flows near by. No entry fee. Place is not neat. The place is one time watchable.
Its a broken church near bank of a river. You can visit the place to click some pics and thats it. There is nothing much to do. Also this place is famous for pre wedding photo shoot. Dont think of taking a bath in the river as its not that clean.
The Submerged Church / The Floating Church The Church was built in 1860 by the French missionaries for the wealthy British estate owners. In 1960 the construction of the Hemavati Dam and Reservoir led to the abandonment of the church. Since then the church submerges in water every year during monsoon season. It attracts a lot of tourists who visit the ruins to see this spectacular sight.
One of the less visited places of Karnataka. The road to the church is very shabby but the scenery makes it worth the travel. Must visit if you're travelling via Hassan.
Beautifully places to visit in summer and winter. Rainy season this place will be filled with water. Monument is not well preserved, but ride from Bangalore and the view of reservoir is worth visiting.
It was an amazing experience visiting the place. You could still see the work on the pillars and walls still holding great at some places. I wish people did not misuse the area and surroundings.
Super scenic place. Must visit in summer as well as rainy seasons. But the problem is with visitors, they are spoiling the place with garbage. Municipality and government should act on this.
This Church ruins remain submerged under water for a few months in a year. It is a nice place to be at, it's hot in the afternoon during sunny days. There is nothing around this place, so eat your fill and carry water if you are visiting this place.
