They have sitting rules in the restaurant & also don't have proper parking for the restaurant. Otherwise the food is good, disappointed with sitting position
I heard a lot about Shetty lunch home so went there to try it. At first I kinda liked the ambience but when the food arrived it was went into drain. We ordered Fish curry rice, A Hole Baige fish fry (Silver Biddy fish) and a Chicken Garlic. The Chicken used in Chicken Garlic is old and had to chew it a lot, the scales of the fish from fish fry wasn't removed properly and fish curry rice is basic and not upto the grade. Further more guys please don't give car key to the hotel staff to park because we lost an umbrella and I properly remember keeping it in the back seat. We wondered what would have happened if we left money in the car. This is definitely not an etiquette shown by a famous hotel.
It's a very average place. I cannot begin to tell you how average/bordering mediocre the food is. But it's one of the few places serving local sea food, so what do you do?
A traditional Family Restaurant in Kundapura, Karnataka with authentic taste of that region as well as other cuisines. Ghee chicken roast is famous here. Seafood variety is also available here. Courteous staff and clean atmosphere. Parking is little bit difficult but u get wallet parking. Also u can have the choice of Liquor too as it is Bar Hotel.
Ghee Roast and all is Fine. But food is extremely overpriced. One portion of Ghee roast costs nearly ₹700/- Items other than Ghee Roast are Hopeless and not upto the mark. Not recommended
This place is highly overrated. Their chicken ghee roast is no doubt good. Their sea food is very average. The service is pathetic. Watch out for expired beer! Servers deliberately delay food! Management turns a blind eye. There are much better places in Kundapura in terms of service and food quality. We were a big group with kids, they made us wait for more than 1 hour and another 30 minutes after seating. We ordered fish fry and calamari which was very average. They served us beer which was very old. On asking for a replacement, we did not get it or another 30 minutes. The servers are out to take revenge. Absolutely no respect for customers.
Don't even think of skipping this place. Must try chicken ghee roast which comes around 8-10 pieces.don't think about if you will be able to finish it, just go for it. Best ghee roast I ever had.
One of the best places to get coastal style food. Evident from the crowds that throng this place. Must try rava fry (both fish and prawns tastes awesome) and ghee roast (chicken or even veg options). The ghee roast mostly ordered with neer dosa (paper thin dosas- a local speciality) is a match made in heaven. But it is better to dine-in for an absolute experience. Once cold the ghee roast no longer tastes the same.
Delicious food, especially chicken ghee roast, prawns and fish masala fry. The desert was yummy as well. Didn't have to wait for food for long. A must visit place to fill your tummy.
Anjal tawa and prawns ghee roast was really good but Unfortunately chicken ghee roast which is an authentic dish we didn't get chance to order since it's preparation time is 1hr.
Excellent food but the ghee roast is priced crazy. I agree with many other reviewers that other restaurants can provide similar ghee roast at much lesser price.
Firstly, the Ghee Roast (we tried the chicken) is just good as others have opined but not at all worth the hype surrounding this place - although am grateful they invented this dish, many restaurants elsewhere do a better ghee roast in my opinion. I think the best dish on offer here is the Kundapur Chicken which is a mildly spiced curry with coconut milk. I found the ambience pretty dark with low intensity lights. Overall its a passable experience definitely not worth the hype.
Restaurent gheeroast is a must eat delicacy but you have to order by 6pm good quntity also because it is situated in heart of city near busstand parking problem is there. Every food item prepared with care
Very amazing food. The taste is very good. They have proper space for sitting. Chicken ghee roast is superb. A must try dish. It takes some time to get prepared. N I too tried the fish tawa fry too. Parking is a little issue. They don’t have a dedicated space for parking. Service is also too good. A must try restaurant if you going towards that place.
Chicken ghee r9ast is 695/- which I felt not too worth the price. Other dishes we ordered were neer dosa and kundapura chicken gravy, Biriyani rice I felt the taste was lame. It's just one time visit
After many years, we finally got to visit Shetty's lunch home to relish theirfamous ghee roast. We booked our portion of chicken n prawn ghee roast an hour before our visit since its easier. One plate comes with 10 pieces of chicken with bone and similar numbers for prawns. We ordered neer dosas to go with the masala and thoroughly enjoyed it. The chicken biryani towards the end was also tasty. A portion of chicken ghee roast costs around Rs 650. Our meal totally lived up to all the hype n expectations and would definitely recommend going to Shetty's for a meal.
Tip: Go in early to avoid rush esp on weekends and pre book you ghee roast. You can also try Kori rotti with chicken curry which is another popular dish in the coastal Karnataka region.
Wish I could give negative review. Not even worthy of 1 star.more expensive than a five star hotel for tasteless very ordinary food. If u are a tourist just save some money and dont go here.food tastes absolutely ordinary and ghee roast costed whopping 650. I regret going there.
First of all, this is an over rated sea food hotel. We had visited this place all the way from Jog falls while driving to udupi, but felt really not worth it. The pricing is too high for that bad and dark ambiance. It’s not a fine dine restaurant, but they are charging bomb shell for the food. No reserved parking space for vehicles, untidy washroom, dark ambiance, no AC, food was of average quality and taste. Overall it’s not worth that hype about this place. If you’re a sea food lover and planning to come here for lunch or dinner, please be prepared for disappointment.
Mouth Watering Food. We tried prawn ghee roast with neer dosa and it was amazing. I still cannot get over the flavour of prawn ghee roast. We also ordered grilled pamphlet which was good. The ambience was good. They have AC dining area as well.
Didn't go there yesterday I visit for lunch I ordered my favte food chicken sukka because it famous in this hotel but yesterday it was very bad and coconut was given smell I cancelled the order
Good ambience. Located in city centre. The hotel is located on a narrow street, and finding a parking space would be a challenge. The food is okay, over hyped ghee roast. The staff are courteous. Costs about 2000 for 4 people. Had ordered Neerdosa, fish curry, prawn masala fry, anjal tawa fry and chicken ghee roast, mutton soup. The ghee roast is sweet, not spicy. Tawa fry was alright not much masala coating to it. The mutton soup was just vegetable stock with meat chunks. Neer dosa and fish curry was good.
You must visit this restaurant once in your lifetime to try the iconic Chicken Ghee Roast which was actually invented at this very restaurant.
Other than that there isn't really anything great about this place. I personally wanted to try the Chicken Ghee Roast and other dishes were just good or below average.
They serve alcohol too.
Parking is an issue if you have a 4 wheeler.
That staff here aren't as polite or good as
This place only excels because of its history. Other than its just an ordinary restaurant in Kundapura.
But Chicken Ghee Roast overpowers all these above mentioned flaws. So pay a visit if you haven't already!
The place is good. We had ordered kori rooti, chicken ghee roast and neer dosa. Kori rooti was average. But the chicken ghee roast was so good and tasty. I definitely recommend you to try the chicken ghee roast
This place what reasonably priced. But the chicken ghee rost is worth the try. Although one plate of chicken ghee rost is expensive. But you should give it a try. Comparatively all the other dishes are reasonably priced. The fish is also really good. And all the the dishes were well cooked and was very tasty.
I appreciate Mr Rohan for taking my order over the phone from Australia and delivering it promptly to my family. The food was amazing thanks a lot for the service.
Pros: - Very impressed with the quality of the food. - especially seafood, very fresh and delicious. - The local Mangalorean dishes are very good. - Restaurant is very clean and neat and the service is excellent. - Located at a good location, and the ambience of the restaurant is very good.
Cons: - None.
Verdict: - Overall, a must try for sea food, Mangalorean delicacies.
Was worth the long travel. At first I thought this was over hyped. But that changed when I tasted the chicken ghee roast. It's out of this world. Remember to order in advance to save time.
Ghee roast is amazingly tasty. A must try. The breads were also good. The crab tandoor was ok. Not great. And fish was good, but could have been better.
Overall, a must try from the original Shetty lunch home.
Very much over priced and over hyped. Not worth the money. We ordered Chicken Shukka.the chicken was fried and then used in the masala. Very average fish curry. With the fish meals they give palya which is less than pickle. Wouldn't recommend it as it's a rip off.
I had never tasted anything like the kundapur ghee roast. Its the best preparation and seems secret to this town and this place.
They do not serve small portions and the masala ia rich and made from high quality ingredients which might explain why this awesome masala is not widespread.
Said to be the birthplace of the chicken ghee roast, this place lives up to all the hype.
Chicken ghee roast with Neer Dosa and Kane masala fry were simply awesome. You can order a full plate chicken ghee roast if your a gang of 3-4 guys. If you're a sole visitor, you can go for the leg piece of the ghee roast.
It takes one hour to prepare the chicken ghee roast and it is advised to order the dish an hour before you start towards the restaurant.
Visited the place twice. During my second visit, I enjoyed the leg piece ghee roast. I liked the fish chilli as well. I found the fish chilli a little too costly; ₹350.
Would travel from Bengaluru to Kundapur just to have a small bite of the Chicken Ghee Roast! It's amazing.should try it out. P. S Ghee roast needs time to be prepared. Better to order it 40-45 mins before you reach the restaurant
Good taste.ghee roast is yummm.also mutton sukka was great.just give order for ghee roast on call 1hr before you reach restaurant.and if you are in hurry then this is not the place for you
Overhyped. Place is run down, running on it's famed CGR. Food is good, not extraordinary. Unfortunately there are very few places in Kundapura where one can have a great meal in a decent ambiance.
Had been here for lunch on a weekday! Clean hotel which has family dedicated area with good service.
Tried the famous ghee roast chicken which needs to be ordered before visiting, else need to wait for more than 30mins. Dish ws tasty but not wow! Alcohol consumption is allowed.
Must try - Chicken ghee roast, Neer dose
Cons - Finding parking spacevould be difficult in the evening and on weekends. Personally I didn't like the prawn butter garlic dish.
I just loved the chicken ghee roast they serve, I thought it's going to be heavy with masala and ghee but surprisingly it was quiet lite for my stomach. Just loved it and it's a must try. Try to be there around 1pm for lunch coz parking space is limited near the restaurant. I love these simple restaurants serving authentic local food.
The chicken ghee roast food here is ok nothing special, it is overhyped, I am coming from Mumbai and there are better chicken food outlets there. That's why I am giving a 3.
Good service, the management is good, we were driving from Honnavar to mangalore and that's when we called the shetty lunch home and asked them to reserve a table for us and ordered the food on phone.though we reached at 03: 00, i.e. After the kitchen had closed, they had kept our food reserved and served it hot.
The taste though of egg ghee roast wasn't up to the mark.
